Terrible until I turned off "Improve Maps" under Frequent Locations.

Now it's about on par with my older iPhones.

Where is this setting? I can't seem to find it.

Never mind I found it :). I was first checking with my wifi ipad.. It does not have that setting.

I've been really impressed with my 5s. I'm getting between 8-10 on a charge, with 3 items turned off in location services, and location off for App Store. Push mail (2 accounts), 80% wifi and 20% LTE, mostly twitter and browsing, plus some gaming.
I've never had better battery life with any iPhone before. Color me excited :)

So it got better after those 4 cycles?

I have almost everything turned off (parallax, most location services, background app refresh, etc), and my use while on wifi, etc is fine...but like I mentioned in another thread, anytime I use 3G, my battery goes down ludicrously fast.

Has anyone else done any tests purely over 3G? With some light browsing or simple use of iMessage over 3G, my battery is pretty consistent in losing 1% every 2 minutes which would give me 3 hours and 20 minutes of 3G usage, less than half of what they advertised :/

I have experience with 3G, and it seems to be killing the battery haha.
In airplane mode my phone lasts forever.

I think I've gotten pretty good battery life. The usage has been continuous music playing and gaming, mainly The Room. Light Facebook use and a lot of texting.

*The "iPhone has been plugged in since last full charge" is there because I plugged it in for like 3 minutes while the new FW was being installed.

It seems, from the posters of this thread, there are 2 batches of phones.

1 with normal battery life, and another with only around 5 hours of usage. I wonder if it's carrier specific or something else..

Can someone test it with navigation ans GPS usage ? I will test i. in next monday.

Same thing here. Hate it.

Lol, I did a restore last night and setup my 5S as new (for the third time) and the battery life seems worse. Background refresh is only on for Twitteriffic and Mailbox. Only about 10 apps are currently installed on my phone. Parallax off, brightness around 30% so far today, 10 minutes of web browsing/Twitter. I'm at 96% already. Bringing it to the Apple store tonight, this is ridiculous. I'd suggest you do the same if yours is bad as well. Better to get it fixed sooner rather than later.

I agree.. Trying to find a time to get in. I did restore from back up and turned off background refresh for most things. More than 2..but not a lot. Checked my mail this morning when I woke up and it went from 100% - 98%. By the time I drove to work, it was at 91%. So, it's pretty terrible. Reading some of the wins on the battery life in here makes me think something may be wrong. I am sure I will get the standard..restore like new, turn everything off from the genius bar though so not sure why I want to face that brick wall.

I'm duly impressed with my 5S's battery life so far.

I had a 4S and my wife has a 5. The 4S would last me through a day (6:30 AM to 9 PM) with moderate usage and I'd have about 15-25% left the last month I'd owned the 4S.

My wife got a 5 in July, but now I think it may have a faulty battery. She will be lucky to get 4-5 hours, even if she doesn't use it.

The 5S is giving me the same performance as my 4S ever did. I'd had the 4s for 15 months. The 5S from the same 6:30 AM to 9 PM period, same location, same usage pattern, I have about 42% left by 9 PM. Not sure if there is a break in period, but if it performs like the 4S I'm a happy camper.

I also have a HTC One, and while I love it for certain uses, the battery gets drained in 6 hours regardless of whether I'm actively using it or whether I'm letting it sit on a counter. This is the same experience I've had with other HTC Android devices over the years so I'm looking forward to having a reliable 5S.

As a follow up, I called into Apple Care and had them run a diagnostic. It passed as expected, but the guy told me if I had done a restore directly from itunes and still had the same battery issues (all true statements), then he advised I take it in to get it replaced.

So, I guess I will need to do that. Not excited about the process, but glad it's available to correct something if it's wrong.

My battery life is slightly worse than iPhone 5, but I chalk it up to losing GMail Exchange Push support. I have the mailbox set to check every 15 minutes. When it was manual, the iPhone 5S seemed to have weirdly superior battery life, until I realized fetch was manual.

That's good news, if you didn't have gold maybe now you maybe able to get gold, as for me I managed to get gold 64gb a week after the lunch at apple store.

two full workdays on a single charge. unheard of.

my 4s would be dead by lunch on the first day.

And that's why I always do a restore before seeing them... Or just lie and tell em you already did a restore and setup as new. I also make sure to tell them that I've done a DFU restore as this sends a message to them that I'm not just an average dumb user.
