Ok so i think i narrowed it down. It's def the POS LTE signal that i get while @ work. I've been doing nothing more than social networking, no games, very light google maps useage, light email (2 gmail accounts fetching hourly), safari browsing, iMessage, Whatsapp, iTunes Radio, & taking occassional pictures. All with Background App refresh off, limited locations services, Automatic Updates off, Parallex off, & everything off in Location Services/System Services.
Eg:
Sat 9/28, mostly on Wifi

Sun 9/29, mostly on Wifi

Tues 10/1, spotty LTE & 4G at work

I'm wondering how many more iPhones i have to go threw to get a good one apple said that the battery shows working properly but obviously its not if I'm only getting 5hrs usage and barely using it had to turn off mostly everything

I'm wondering the same thing, man. And of course the diagnostics always say the battery is functioning normally. Mine said the same thing when I brought it in to get it replaced. The Genius even admitted that some 5S's are just getting sucky battery life even though they're reporting as normal. I'm bringing mine back to them on Friday to get another replacement.

If the person hasn't used screen off activities that day (such as music, phone calls, etc) then the "usage" statistic will give you an very close approximate of how long the screen has been on.

If the person has used screen off activities that day (such as music, phone calls, etc) then they just need to keep track of how long they used them for and subtract that from the "usage" statistic to figure out screen on time.

People in this thread do not seem to be doing that they seem to be comparing the stats at face value which means nothing.

Not everyone is doing that. I, for one, am not. But when I get a replacement device that gets an hour more battery life with the same usage as on my first device, I know it's not a problem with the software, it's the phone itself. Also, many users, including myself, are getting significantly lower usage from our 5S's than others who we have confirmed have similar usage as ourselves. This is definitely an issue with some devices.

46%
4h 21min usage
1 day 6 hours standby

2 mail accounts - every 30min (instead of PUSH)

manual brightness at about 20% on the slider

location only for tomtom

seems 2 days (48 hours) will be easy...

Looking good finally

I posted this in another thread but it seems appropriate to ask here:

"Should I calibrate the battery immediately? Or, will it harm/hinder the battery in any way if I don't calibrate on the first charge? I just got my 5s yesterday and haven't charged it yet. I was going to let it drain all the way then charge it fully as described. Currently at 13%.

However, I didn't time things right and lo and behold, I actually need to use my phone today to arrange work/out of town guests. If I partially charge the 5s now, then calibrate it in a couple days, I should eventually be able to achieve some of those battery stats posted above, correct?"

This is both a mix of Wi-Fi and LTE. If I was on Wi-Fi the entire time I could easily get 11 hours. If its like this all the time, I'll take it!

I am very happy with the battery life so far..however, I did disable location services all together, turn off background refresh and automatic updates, and some other things.

Do you have location for Siri and Weather and things like that still enabled? Because damn that IS pretty good!

I have location services on for Siri, off for weather. The weather app always displays where I have it set anyway, so there's no need for it to know my location unless I'm traveling. I also turn off apps that can function without knowing my location. I never check into places on Facebook, so it doesn't need to know my location. Also, under system services, the only thing I have on is diagnostics and usage. Even that, I could probably turn off.

Edit: I also turned off Wi-Fi when I was not at home. I've seen many people do this and get battery life similar to mine. I suspect the radio may be draining batteries searching for a network when one isn't around. Whether this can be fixed with a software update,
I don't know. I'll try it out again, keeping everything the same as before, except this time I won't touch the Wi-Fi toggle, I'll leave it on.

Is there any way to get the weather to display in the Today view of notification center without using location services? In ios 6 you used to be able to just set which zip code it used. I'd like the weather there but would like to keep location services off.

After normal using for few days and about 10 charge cycles ...

For calls,imessage,whatsapp,fb,iradio,youtube,movies ...

Not to mention, look at the signal bar ... thats what I get 12 hours in my full day (stupid office location)

It's weird because LTE is supposed to be more battery efficient than 3G.

Perhaps spotty LTE coverage affects the signal and in turn consumes more batteries.

Just know that whatever you getting on the iPhone is a lot more than what you would be getting on an Android. Have solace in that and try not to examine too much into it.
