I spent a while with Apple Support, Something this morning (10/23/20) broke the HP printing drivers framework on Catalina OS 10.15.7. They have received many calls with different items related to HP informing it will damage your computer, My printer does not print. I have a Laserjet 4200 with all kinds of options (envelop feeder, etc.) It is a vicious circle - Apple says to call HP as they need to provide the drivers, I have not been able to speak to anyone at HP that can help.

The errors are like this:

"hpPostProcessing.bundle" Will damage your computer. Report Malware to Apple

others with the same error

"ProductImprovementStudy.hptask"
ScanEventHandler.app"
"HPDeviceMonitoring.framework"
"FaxArchive.task"

This seems to be affecting many older HP printer of multiple series.

Anyone else? Anyone had found a workaround.

We have many Laserjets of the 4100, 4200 & 4300 series. They are workhorses. I can'r believe they will just brake them....

I have the same problem. Annoying pop up and unable to print. Laserjet Pro 400

If Apple doesn't want to produce their own peripheral they need to make other popular peripherals work with their OS.

The certificate HP used to sign these files has been revoked. You should be able to print if you can use a generic printer driver or AirPrint until HP resolves this with an updated driver.

For you there may be a fix. Apple pointed me to this page to download an update. My printer, the 4200 does not have an update. Your looks like it does.

Here is the link to the easy admin software - download and then check for the upgrade

here is Link
The reason is recent MRT update (occurs in the background) to 1.68

Also many users suffer from constant cpu usage after update

It may not actually be due to the XProtect update. HP may have actually revoked the certificate, although this revocation does not appear in High Sierra or Mojave. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/ne...oor-lets-attackers-take-over-windows-systems/

If we could get a Macrumors article written on this, it may accelerate a solution. The Apple support reply to me (escalated to 2nd level) was that they have no plans to fix this for older printers

Wasn't an OS update. It worked yesterday, and broke today
Not OS upgrade but Apple has pushed two updates today, to the data files used by XProtect, bringing its version number to 2133 dated 19 October 2020, and to its malware removal tool MRT, bringing it to version 1.68, also dated 19 October 2020. So it appears from an article someone posted above

They installed on my computer on the 19th, so they've been out a while. I have not tried to print anything to an HP printer in months, however.

ran into that today with one of my clients. error message could not be closed, it didn't show up in "force quit", acting as if it were an apple os popup. It blocked trying to call up any other programs, said that the HP framework would damage her computer and to report it to apple as malicious. I ended up dragging everything HP related in the applications folder to trash, removed the HP folder pointed to in the "details" for the error message (applications support, I think), removed the HP envy from system preferences... Then rebooted. It added printer back and I could print and scan fine.

I had the same problem today with a F4500 it is not related to OSX 10.15.7 since my other mac on 10.15.6 has the same issue as its related to the signature of the installer that has expired.

I downloaded the latest driver from the HP Easy Admin , selected my printer model and it fixed it!

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06164609

hope it helps!

I have the same issue with my HP Color LaserJet CP4025. Anyone have a link for a download to a generic printer driver for Mac OS 10.15.7?

There are generic printer drivers on the PRINTERS AND SCANNERS section in preferences. Click on the + to add a printer, select the IP (assuming you are connected via the network). Input the IP address of the printer and select either the generic postcrip or generic PCL. Hopefully that will work for you

I have the same issue with my HP Color LaserJet CP1518ni. Apple Support referred me to HP Support, but HP doesn't support my printer anymore unfortunately. I tried using generic drivers via System Preferences --> Printers & Scanners, but they only let me print in monochrome instead of in colour. Does anyone know of any generic colour printer drivers?

Printing to an HP LaserJet 1012 is broken on my Mac mini running OS 10.15.7. Same warnings cited as earlier in this thread. Apple has been breaking a lot of stuff recently.

Expect a lot more of this with the new chip set coming!

My 2012 huge network printer - serving the office has been laid low by this. We can print using a generic driver (very slowly), but have no duplex. We need to make a BIG noise with the printer manufacturer. It is a small job to update the certificate as there is a common driver for many HP printers.
