using the hp-printer-essentials-S-5_14_8_4 update
Thank you, I'll try that.
*I have now tried without success. HP still says they have nothing compatible and say I should use a different version of Mac OS which stumped me.

Did you use the ftp link and did you create a new printer instance after download? It has worked for all our network printers. I think you would have to go back to 10.13 which would be incompatible with many newer computers and is likely before long to pose a security risk so the OS change is a ridiculous thing to say. Windows 10 has also caused a lot of printing problems and HP now have pop-ups telling you where to look for the solutions.

I and I suspect many others have put a business support case in so hopefully it will get sorted properly, and a quick solution will get posted from HP. Apple has changed to a 'driverless model' and this is why drivers don't come down on software update anymore.

At the very least it would be an environmental disaster to end the life of so many printers.

I hope you get sorted soon.

Read it and tried it. Doesn't work for my printer. I think it is something Apple/HP has done to cause this mess.

If the update doesn't work and you have a postscript printer like yours. Print the config page from the printer and then try using IPP with that IP address and choice the generic postscript driver. This might give you limited printing to keep you going. I tested this this morning with a couple of our printers

I have the same issue with my HP Color LaserJet CP4025. Anyone have a link for a download to a generic printer driver for Mac OS 10.15.7?

We have sorted this for this printer here. See my previous posts with the specific ftp address.

The solutions that have worked include downloading this link to an HP utility and reinstalling your HP printer:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Installations/Essentials/hp-printer-essentials-S-5_14_8_4.pkg

I found that using the default PCL printer driver in System Preferences>Printer solved my printer error.

Downloading and installing the new HP printer driver for Catalina 10.15 is useless!

The tweet that says Apple put out an update is wrong. The HP Printer driver 5.1 from Apple was last refreshed in October 2019. There is no new update.
HP’s certificate has been revoked, so HP needs to reissue drivers.

Looks like date of Revocation was yesterday. I was getting a bunch of popups that wouldn't quit no matter how many times I restarted. Finally, when each one came up I followed the path listed at the top of the pop up and removed the offending icons. The popups then stopped.

My printers are a LaserJet Pro M40 and an OfficeJet Pro 8210. They both print fine.

I am on Big Sur.

There are generic printer drivers on the PRINTERS AND SCANNERS section in preferences. Click on the + to add a printer, select the IP (assuming you are connected via the network). Input the IP address of the printer and select either the generic postcrip or generic PCL. Hopefully that will work for you
I was connect via USB. Tried connecting via Airprint. Same error messages. Ugh!

If we could get a Macrumors article written on this, it may accelerate a solution. The Apple support reply to me (escalated to 2nd level) was that they have no plans to fix this for older printers
If it’s an HP certificate issue, then there is nothing for Apple to fix, even if they wanted to

Expect a lot more of this with the new chip set coming!

My 2012 huge network printer - serving the office has been laid low by this. We can print using a generic driver (very slowly), but have no duplex. We need to make a BIG noise with the printer manufacturer. It is a small job to update the certificate as there is a common driver for many HP printers.
Why? This seems to be an HP certificate issue. What does it have to do with chipsets?

Is this only affecting HP printers? HP no longer supports my model (CP3525dn) so it may be time to upgrade to a printer that supports wireless. I don't want to purchase a new printer to be no better off.
I can print on my Epson just fine. I would be quite surprised if an HP certificate issue stopped other printers too. that would be quite something

hp haven’t updated many drivers for years. That is not going to improve with a new operating Environment. Drivers were a problem when they moved to Intel as I remember.

thru IP and choosing the generic printer driver and connecting thru AirPrint worked for me....
But removing and installing HP drivers again didn’t work. My HP Officejet pro 276 DW MFP would not work with removing the printer, installing the drivers. The essential HP driver also didn’t work. Fot now i can print again thru AirPrint.
Hope that HP coma’s with a answer...

I could print. Five minutes later, I can't print. WTF? I have wasted HOURS on this!!! Someone needs to be executed.

Tried all kinds of stuff, details unimportant. Trying that ftp:// link above now.....

I have two 2025dn printers - with brand new, expensive, sets of color toners.

UPDATE: YES!!! The ftp link above worked for me. Thank god! Thanks for your help!!

Thank you for being so helpful. On similar advice from a Mac user friend I deleted the printer completely and tried by installing HP Smart from the Mac App Store. The same but now "new" printer showed up but again it didn't work.

As before, the scanner shows the message "Failed to open a connection to the device (-21345). I again dowloaded HewlettPackardPrinterDrivers.pkg which once more hasn't worked.

For you there may be a fix. Apple pointed me to this page to download an update. My printer, the 4200 does not have an update. Your looks like it does.

Here is the link to the easy admin software - download and then check for the upgrade

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately when I try to download and run HP's Easy Admin app I get the following Mac message; "The application “HP Easy Admin.app” can’t be opened."

Same problem began here last night (10/23/2020) when I went to print something on my HP Laserjet 1320 that I have had many years, but very low usage. Then I discovered that my HP Inkjet 4635 still copies and prints but now it will not scan to my Mac Catalina 10.15.7. Got those same messages that it could damage my computer and it freaked me out. I reported it to HP but got no response. I hope "they" fix it soon.

I installed the updated Essentials using the ftp link provided. It appears to have installed fine. However, I am still seeing the malware popup. Does that /Library/Printers/hp need to be removed completely first?

This doesn't work for me, apparently because I have a USB printer. It does solve the revoked certificate problem though.

There was a slight difference in the popup message. Before applying the Essentials update, it said HPDeviceMonitoring.framework was the problem. After the update, it says HPDM.framework is the problem.

I removed HPDP.framework. Popup is gone now.

Tried to print the test page and then "Matterhorn.framework" was identified as a problem.

The test print did print however.

So, there is still some underlying problem.
