Many thanks for providing a solution to this (the FTP link). I can use my older LaserJet, but cannot yet use my older Photosmart all-in-one.

I managed to make it work by finding the driver that 'HP Easy Star' installs in the background when it discovers a printer.

In my case it was this one /var/folders/zz/zyxvpxvq6csfxvn_n00026kw000jmq/T/com.hp.hp-easy-start/SoftwareComponentInstallations/A61A63C5-76FD-496A-BD3C-74FFDFAAA960/hp-printer-essentials-S-5_14_8_4.pkg

hp-printer-essentials-S-5_14_8_4.pkg

Everything is explained here:

here is Link
The reason is recent MRT update (occurs in the background) to 1.68

Also many users suffer from constant cpu usage after update
I have exactly the same problem since these two updates happened on October 23, have an HP OfficeJet 8620 ... not so old

An update was just released by HP through Apple / Software Update to address HP printing issue.

I can confirm the issue has been resolved.

Update 2:

It appears v5.1 is an old update from 2017 - https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1888?locale=en_US

Not sure why it was made available via Software Update. I did though install the essentials package from the ftp link shared in this thread before the Software Update became available. I removed the printer then reinstalled it after the Software Update and got no warnings.

There’s still no new update from Apple but HP has “unrevoked” the certificate so printing should work again without having to reinstall anything.

HP can't "unrevoke" the certificate, only Apple can do so. Anyway, it should work again.

The scanner has started to work again. The printer will print for itself but it will not print from my iMAC so thre is still something missing. I have deleted andfully reinstalled the printer several times.

AWESOME!!! My HP 1325 now prints, and my HP 4635 now scans, without me having to do anything. Thank you very much!!!! This is such a tremendous relief.

Now if I can get past the "possible Public Safety Power Outage" that might occur today in SoCal according to a text I received from AT&T this morning... ugh! Always something.

I tried your link but, as a previous commenter has said, it appears v5.1 is an old update from 2017 - and some of us need something for now, 25 October 2020. https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1888?locale=en_US

Although I have made some progress and the scanner is working again - which makes me think there cannot be too much that is wrong - my printer refuses to print from the computer and keeps saying "Waiting for printer to become available"

Yep, same error. It *just* occurred today. I have an HP Laser Jet 1012...that worked perfectly fine up until about 20 minutes ago. Of course when I try to contact HP, their Support website is down. No way to contact them. Super. :(

Here is a later version than the one posted earlier, that solves my USB problem

This one solved my problems with my LaserJet 1012. Hope it works for you too!

If you haven't done so already, cancel any pending print jobs, then try restarting your computer and printer. That's what I did, and both of my printers worked today without installing any drivers. Of course, yesterday before I came here to this forum, I reported the problem to HP.

The 5.1 HP Update appeared yesterday on Software update - but it did not fix anything. This afternoon the HP 5.1 update appeared again after several checks for software upgrade (as I was reading the forums). This time around it fixed the issue, at least with my HP Laserjet 4200 (with trays, envelope feeder, stacker, stapler and duplexing). The 5.1 file with drivers are from 2017 - so changes where made to the software so that the certification security no longer disables the printers. An Apple 2nd level support mentioned to me that Apple used to provide the HP drivers in the iOS or for download through printer utility, and they had been transitioning to stop doing that and it will be the printer manufacturers who will supply them going forward. Something in the transition went haywire. The concern is that HP needs motivation to support older printers. The Lserjets 4000 series (4000, 4050, 4100, 4200, 4250, 4300 & 4350) were sold from 1997 to 2005 and are workhorses - solidly built, high quality and fast. We still many in our company. The incentive to HP should be they still sell the toners & drums.

I had the same problem since last week's update, getting multiple error messages every time I tried to print (HP OfficeJet 5610 - old, but reliable). I unplugged, uninstalled, restarted, reset framework and updated Catalina again. Nothing worked. Tonight, when I clicked "Show Me In Finder" in one of the error messages, Finder took me to a folder containing the HP Framework files. There, I deleted everything with 'HP' in the name, exited, went back to System Preferences and then added the printer again. The installer found the printer, told me that I was missing some files and then installed the HP Utility for me. Error messages stopped and everything seems to be working now.

I hope I didn’t make a future mistake by just buying an OfficeJet Pro 8030. Anyone have one of these?

Not sure how but I came across this solution but I think it was in an HP forum. You have to find the HP folder in the Library (not in the apps) delete everything that is in it and then let your Mac find your printer and feed it the software it needs. My printer suddenly leapt into action and chewed up a piece of paper, so eager was it to print again! What a relief! This is the quote

"Finally working for me too, but I had to do what Krunoslav said:

"I went to setting/printers and did 'Reset printing system', then opened /Library/Printers and removed hp folder and all 'HP...' files in PPDs folder.

Then I clicked on + in settings/printers and selected my HP OfficeJet J4660 printer. Drivers were downloaded and installed by system."

I did this and when I was adding the printer, I got a notification saying I had a software update, it downloaded and it's finally working again as usual. "

U P D A T E I shut everything down for a while to recover from the mild anxiety. When I opened up again to my dismay the printer and all its connections to the iMac had vanished. I couldn't get the Printer in Sysdtems Preferences even to acknowledge there was any printer at all.

Again I did a complete uninstall of all hp items from the iMac and a reboot. Still no change.

Then somehow I found the advice to go to the printer itself and, using the printer's own tools, to do a factory reset, turn it all off and then on, and it might be recognised as a brand new printer.

Very glad to say that has worked. Mac put in all the necessary software, accepted the printer and scanner, and despite my shutting them off and then on again, they are still working. Whew!

I hope these procedures will solve things for all you kind people who are sharing your solutions and helping each other to get up and running again. Very many thanks!

Laserjet P1102w here and I noted the issues - pop-ups about particular files potentially damaging my computer - yesterday. Refusing to print. Hadn't used it a few days. Of course I did a search and found all the comments scattered across many Forums (including HP's own), dated to coincide with the problems. Looked at a few of the 'solutions' - many referring to drivers older than the issue, so I gave them a pass - while following HP's own instructions, I discovered I had no HP Utility to actually uninstall the product.

I'm afraid I went all neolithic and manually deleted the printer from System Preferences and then found the HP printer files in the Library (all users and my own), deleted them, emptied the Trash and rebooted. I was going to try a fresh install today to see what happens. But overnight, it seems that HP and Apple decided to play nice again - I had two banners pop up to say that both Apple and HP software had been updated.

Went to System Preferences and discovered to my surprise the printer back there. A quick test run printed without issue. So I guess whatever I was experiencing has been resolved. Hope its the same for others.
