Laserjet P1102w here and I noted the issues - pop-ups about particular files potentially damaging my computer - yesterday. Refusing to print. Hadn't used it a few days. Of course I did a search and found all the comments scattered across many Forums (including HP's own), dated to coincide with the problems. Looked at a few of the 'solutions' - many referring to drivers older than the issue, so I gave them a pass - while following HP's own instructions, I discovered I had no HP Utility to actually uninstall the product.

I'm afraid I went all neolithic and manually deleted the printer from System Preferences and then found the HP printer files in the Library (all users and my own), deleted them, emptied the Trash and rebooted. I was going to try a fresh install today to see what happens. But overnight, it seems that HP and Apple decided to play nice again - I had two banners pop up to say that both Apple and HP software had been updated.

Went to System Preferences and discovered to my surprise the printer back there. A quick test run printed without issue. So I guess whatever I was experiencing has been resolved. Hope its the same for others.
Similar here. When the problem cropped up on the weekend using my 12 year old HP LaserJet, I tried a few things including deleting every hp file on my Mac. Rather than struggle to find a workaround I ordered a new Brother printer. Upgrades me to wifi and duplex anyway. But when I saw your note I rebooted and like you my old HP printer reappeared and started working. So presumably Apple or HP worked it out overnight.

We have this printer now running fast. Delete the printing system using right click over the printers, employ the ftp link for software above and then re-install and it has been fine for all of our HP stock

But I did not need to use ftp - it was all automatic after I rebooted. My guess is that the problem will go away for many people, if HP and/or Apple have simply pushed fixes.

Stoked on this thread!

I tried the various FTP links posted throughout to try to get my trusty old HP LaserJet 1012 going again. No luck. But then I found the advice to delete /Library/Printers/hp, reinstalled the printer in System Prefs, and it downloaded fixed drivers and works again. :D

I have the same problem. Annoying pop up and unable to print. Laserjet Pro 400

If Apple doesn't want to produce their own peripheral they need to make other popular peripherals work with their OS.
I have an iMAC, running 10.15.7 Catalina. I FINALLY got a definitive answer from HP on my hp Laserjet Pro 401dn printer driver. They have NO driver that will work and they actually said I should "UPGRADE" my perfectly good printer. My sense is they downloaded a software revision that cut off my printer from working! Not sure about the signed certificate, but do understand I have two perfectly good HP printers that will no longer print on my computer. I guess I will dump them both in the Atlantic, as a mini-barrier reef for fish. : -)

To add data to the pool…
I'm using a Mac mini Late 2012. I have an HP PhotoSmart 6520. Several days ago I saw that it had a macOS update ready. It indicated that it would install it automatically overnight, but after several days, it still had not done it. So finally last night, Monday 26 October 2020, at roughly 2100 HST, I manually initiated the update to Catalina 10.15.7 to run overnight. I had experienced no printing issues or pop-ups before that time.
This morning, Tuesday 27 October 2020 at 0700 HST, I logged in for the first time since the update and immediately—and incessantly since then—experienced the error popups that read:
⚠️ "HPDeviceMonitoring.framework" will damage your computer.
The file was downloaded on an unknown date.
☑️ Report malware to Apple to protect other users
[ Show in Finder ] [ OK ]
The timing of when the error messages suggests to me that it was a result of installing the update and/or rebooting. I acknowledge it could have been due to the XProtect changes that may have been pending a reboot. Difficult to isolate based on my experience since the mini is rarely rebooted.

After the earlier link for version 14 failed to download, I saw this comment and downloaded the file from this link instead.
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Installations/Essentials/hp-printer-essentials-SE-5_15_0_12.pkg
Here is a later version than the one posted earlier, that solves my USB problem
This one solved my problems with my LaserJet 1012. Hope it works for you too!
I ran the installer, which required me to specifically mark HP as a trusted developer. I rebooted. I still get the incessant error pop-ups.

Next I saw this comment.

Once I moved the hp folder to the Trash, the pop-ups stopped (which makes sense).

Then I opened the Printer pane in System Preferences. My printer was still listed, although the icon was the generic printer instead of matching my actual printer's appearance. I clicked the Open Print Queue, which opened and notified me that some software was missing and presented a button to download the missing software and install it. I clicked that. Once that completed, I quit the printer queue app and quit System Preferences; I noticed the hp folder was back in the Library folder and I was still not receiving the pop-ups. I reopened the printer pane in System Preferences and observed the icon once again matches the printer's actual appearance.

So now it appears everything is back to the way it was before I went to bed last night.

Thanks to all of you for posting your experiences and possible solutions here!

My bet is that HP requested certificate revocation with Apple, and must have grossly neglected the impact it would have across their consumers with Mac OS

Expect a lot more of this with the new chip set coming!

My 2012 huge network printer - serving the office has been laid low by this. We can print using a generic driver (very slowly), but have no duplex. We need to make a BIG noise with the printer manufacturer. It is a small job to update the certificate as there is a common driver for many HP printers.
Tested a solution today
---------------------------
- load newest version from HP Easy Start
- Start this program, go to top menu and select "Deinstallation of HP software"
- RE-install your printer and HP Easy scan for scanning
- worked without error messages anymore

The other workaround was to use the generic Apple AirPrint driver instead of the HP driver. But that didn't support scanning without error messages

Not sure how but I came across this solution but I think it was in an HP forum. You have to find the HP folder in the Library (not in the apps) delete everything that is in it and then let your Mac find your printer and feed it the software it needs. My printer suddenly leapt into action and chewed up a piece of paper, so eager was it to print again! What a relief! This is the quote

"Finally working for me too, but I had to do what Krunoslav said:

"I went to setting/printers and did 'Reset printing system', then opened /Library/Printers and removed hp folder and all 'HP...' files in PPDs folder.

Then I clicked on + in settings/printers and selected my HP OfficeJet J4660 printer. Drivers were downloaded and installed by system."

I did this and when I was adding the printer, I got a notification saying I had a software update, it downloaded and it's finally working again as usual. "

U P D A T E I shut everything down for a while to recover from the mild anxiety. When I opened up again to my dismay the printer and all its connections to the iMac had vanished. I couldn't get the Printer in Sysdtems Preferences even to acknowledge there was any printer at all.

Again I did a complete uninstall of all hp items from the iMac and a reboot. Still no change.

Then somehow I found the advice to go to the printer itself and, using the printer's own tools, to do a factory reset, turn it all off and then on, and it might be recognised as a brand new printer.

Very glad to say that has worked. Mac put in all the necessary software, accepted the printer and scanner, and despite my shutting them off and then on again, they are still working. Whew!

I hope these procedures will solve things for all you kind people who are sharing your solutions and helping each other to get up and running again. Very many thanks!
You rock. I followed your lead zactly I'm back up and running.
Gracias,

BTW. This is the best tech support for the Mac. The best. You he/she/its here rock. You always have. Need to get some kind of Bitcoin thing going, so people can pay it forward.

What a mess. I tried installing the "Essentials/hp...pkg" and it just started with the warning messages popping up continuously. I'm running a new iMac with Catalina 10.15.7. Is there a fix for this or is my printer now a brick sitting on my desk?

New Brother printer arrived today. Slick wireless setup and duplex printing. All‘s well that ends well.

I spent a while with Apple Support, Something this morning (10/23/20) broke the HP printing drivers framework on Catalina OS 10.15.7. They have received many calls with different items related to HP informing it will damage your computer, My printer does not print. I have a Laserjet 4200 with all kinds of options (envelop feeder, etc.) It is a vicious circle - Apple says to call HP as they need to provide the drivers, I have not been able to speak to anyone at HP that can help.

The errors are like this:

"hpPostProcessing.bundle" Will damage your computer. Report Malware to Apple

others with the same error

"ProductImprovementStudy.hptask"
ScanEventHandler.app"
"HPDeviceMonitoring.framework"
"FaxArchive.task"

This seems to be affecting many older HP printer of multiple series.

Anyone else? Anyone had found a workaround.

We have many Laserjets of the 4100, 4200 & 4300 series. They are workhorses. I can'r believe they will just brake them....
Thanks for all this info. I have a Canon printer but HP drivers too so I deleted them and then deleted more files in my library and now there are no alerts. Thanks for the help!

Seems like all HP drivers are broken.

When you get to the size of Apple, it doesn't matter what you do. Apple and HP are big enough to play "you fix it" leaving the end consumer without a solution. I can tell you for sure that HP will not care, because this update was pushed by Apple. Once there are 3-4 articles in the news outlet like WSJ, NY Times and investors ask questions, this error will disappear.

^^^^Working fine for me with my two printers.

As evidenced by the eMail I posted above, Apple & HP jointly worked on the issue and it's now solved ?

I have the P1102 printer (I believe Noah had one for printing on the ark!) attached to a USB port on an airport for wireless printing. I was getting the error this morning while trying to print.

After reading this thread went to the hp.com site and searched for printer drivers, there is the new package to download as stated in previous posts.

Just run the new package from HP, I didn't uninstall or anything just ran the package. It took a good 5 mins to do everything and automatically updated the drivers. I can now print ok.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions and assistance with this problem. I plan to work on this Sunday or Monday on MacBook Pro with Catalina 10.15.7 As above, will go to HP site, search for printer drivers and download new package, hoping that works for me. After the initial HPDeviceMonitoring.Framework message,I got another message "behind" it: "the default interactive shell is now zsh......" I assume it is safe to follow directions on this message. Anyone else have this? Any suggestions on which message to address first? Thanks again.

Yes I had the same problem. I have a HP LaserJet 1200 which is from the 1990's but still going strong. In fact found the solution from this site. https://services.dartmouth.edu/TDClient/1806/Portal/KB/ArticleDet?ID=119136
It seemed reliable and downloaded the recommendation. The problem is gone once the installation completed. Don't know if solution was reported elsewhere. I was in fact making my mind up to replace the printer.

The 'language' used by Terminal changed with Catalina so the zsh message is fine.

An Addendum to this: Info from System Preferences would suggest that the fresh updates to my drivers (as auto installed after my purge) are version 6.9. This seems to make a lot more sense than the reported v5.1 drivers found on HP's website - given they keep changing the date of the drivers, but rarely the version number. That can't be helpful.

Anyway, everything seems fine (well, I can't connect wirelessly, but never have been able to), and it includes a new icon on the Dock when printing. Hope people are finding the solutions they need - it still seems to be a mixed bag of success.

Hello,

I need to backup the drivers of several printers!!

1. AirPrint - it says no drivers needed but it downloads something...

In which location or folder "AirPrint" download the printer information in macOS Mojave and macOS Catalina?

2. ...After deleting the hp Folder and Clicking "Install" to let macOS attempt to find and install the HP printer driver:

In which location or Folder I can find, the download driver in macOS Mojave and macOS Catalina?

4. HP Easy Start -

In which location or folder "HP Easy Start" download the drivers in macOS Mojave
and macOS Catalina?

5. HP Easy Admin -

In which location or folder "HP Easy Admin" installs the essential Software and
drivers in macOS Mojave and macOS Catalina?

Thanks

I have constant (every few seconds) HP error messages that I have been unable to stop. My Mac is unusable. I can't do my work.

I've deleted everything HP I can find, but no change. I can't download the "Easy" software package.

I could not be more furious! Absolute disgrace from HP. How dare they?
