HTC, what are you doing, seriously?

http://www.droid-life.com/2016/08/29/report-htc-one-a9s-yes-seriously-announced-ifa/

HTC will announce the "One A9s" -- yes, they're adding an "s" moniker to their already iPhone-looking like device. And the device itself will apparently be redesigned slightly to look even more like the iPhone.

No, HTC. No.

I don't care if you did do those antennae lines first.

I really like the look of the HTC A9 but it is a blatant copy of the iPhone 6 lol.

I guess HTC thinks "hey, it worked for Samsung"? But even the S2 which was at the height of Samsung coping wasnt this blatant.

Anybody still using HTC 10? @MRU ?

I sold my HTC 10 a couple of days ago. But only coz I will receive a new one, USA version, silver with black front. The best looking version imho :)

I have been using HTC 10 as my daily driver for long now. I can't recall the last time I was this satisfied with a smartphone. Thought about using OP3 instead, but Amoled screen on OP3 isn't that good, so sticking with HTC for a while now. OP3 is a fantastic phone, too bad the screen isn't that great.

HTC 10, no slow downs, runs butter smooth. Camera is pretty good, battery can last me an entire day without any problems. Build quality is fantastic, but the part that got me hooked is software. 0 bloatware, no double apps for the same thing, and the small tweaks to android from htc are great. Sense UI is simply amazing + the best dialer hands down.

But still haven't seen even one HTC 10 in Croatia except my own. Not even one! And if I wanted to buy the phone in my country, I can't. No one has it in stock. And this thread proves the point, HTC 10 even tough it is a fantastic phone, rarely anyone buys it. Lousy marketing I guess + lousy management from HTC.

A shame really. This phone is the phone of 2016 for me. OP3 would comepete, but the screen quality isn't simply there. Except those two phones, I have owned Nexus 6p, S7, G5, Xiaomi mi5 (good phone, lousy camera), iPhone 6s, etc. I use HTC 10 + iPhone SE (work phone). Couldn't be happier with both :)

Real world camera use was horrendous on the HTC 10. The S7 kills it in basic stuff like exposure.

I love my HTC 10. I am using it as my daily driver since August and I had zero issues with it. The phone is fast and smooth and the build quality amazing.
This is the best phone I have ever had. Yes, marketing is not one of HTC's strengths.

I kept going back and forth between this phone and the Google Pixel. What gave me pause were a few things about it that are frustratingly minor compared to the fabulousness of the overall design and the reported amazing sound, but still enough to earn it a nudge to the side in favor Pixel for the time being.

One was the fact that people report not being able to see the screen properly through polarized sunglasses and the screen also being dim outdoors. This year was an aberration due to health reasons, but usually I'm outside doing outdoorsy things. So I wear my polarized sunglasses a lot. I already go through this with my SE. I can still see the SE screen clearly enough, but it looks weird. But it is bright. I can see the SE screen just fine outdoors.

Next up was reports of the camera being a bit less than its competition's offerings. Even with numerous updates, people's comments are still kind of lukewarm. There has been nothing lukewarm about the comments on the Pixel camera. Either people are pitching a fit about the lens flare on some units or they're pooping rainbows and unicorns about how amazing it performs. But none of this "eh, it's alright" stuff.

Next, it's just a bit on the chunky side compared to the Pixel. Despite my initial reservations, my S7Edge is earning and holding its place as my larger smart phone/entertainment device/portable computer. It's keeping the coveted second phone sim.

So the pocket space in my fall and winter jeans is up for grabs. (SE wins the summer pocket space by virtue of being tiny and light). The phone that gets this job has to fit comfortably in the pocket. The Pixel with its wedge shape and slightly smaller size and weight looks like it could do that a bit easier than the HTC 10. I don't mind that the HTC 10 is thick. But it is also taller and wider by a tiny margin.

And most importantly, it has to do something when I talk to it. I am always bossing Siri around. My hands are full sometimes because I'm doing chores but I still need to know stuff. I love that Siri is always ready to answer me. Sometimes she can't hear me in some pockets but most of the time she seems able to. At any rate I can always wake her up and she's always with me.

So I am intrigued by the Pixel having the Assistant on call. I have not read anything about the HTC-10 to indicate I could interact verbally very much with an AI assistant on it. I have Okay Google activated on my S7Edge and it works great when it responds. The problem is it usually doesn't respond when I simply say "Okay Google" when the device is on standby even though I have it set to do so. I want better responsiveness than that for my primary phone.

I haven't ruled out getting an iPhone 7 since I would prefer to have an iOS and Android team. But I find Google's answers more helpful so I thought I would give the Pixel a try. I thought the Pixel would take the Samsung's place and leave the SE's place secure, but the Sammy is just earning it's keep better than I expected it to.

Like you...i like both Siri and Google and iPhone and Android phones :) One difference between the two digital voice assistants is...Google allows more contextual questions.
I like them both tbh...

The 5" pixel does feel much smaller in the hand than the HTC 10 even if it's only .2" bigger.

I do think the stereo speakers setup though trump's the pixels bottom firing single speaker.

Both really nice phones though and contrary to others, i think the camera has been very decent on the HTC 10. I never got the issues many reported with mine such as lens flare or pink hue.

@GrumpyMom OK Google works fine for me on the 10, just make sure you enable it to work from ALL screens and available all time.

TBH between all the assistants, given they tend to be very USA centric in what you can do and ask relevance wise, for me in Ireland the end results end up being much the same (same limits apply across all).

He makes a very good point about how Siri responds to voice inquiries with visual information that can't always be accessed when you're out and about. It happened to me this morning. I have to work outdoors on Saturday. My SE was on the kitchen counter and I was making breakfast and had my hands full. I asked Siri what the weather would be for Saturday. She said it would be Sun, sun and more sun for Saturday. By the time I moved over to look at the more detailed report that had flashed across the screen, it was gone. I tried later with my S7Edge on Ok Google. First off, there was terrible lag before it responded through a locked home screen so I was caught off guard and failed to make my inquiry in time. Thereafter it refused to respond to calls of "Ok Google" so I had to unlock the screen.

I did finally unlock the screen and I asked the exact same question in the exact same words about the weather and Google verbally responded with a far more useful "It's going to be sunny and 63 degrees." Good, so I know to wear my sweater and jeans when I am out on Saturday as opposed to t-shirt and shorts that I might have thought of hearing Siri's response. And this time of year in the Mid-Atlantic it could go either way even this far into Fall.

If the HTC and Ok Google integration is on the same level as it seems to be with the Pixel, or Siri and IPhone, hey that might nudge it back into contender status because the price on the occasional HTC discount is good. And HTC offers a generous 30 day return policy and the Uh-Oh protection policy that is just astonishing.

But...so far nobody has said that that integration exists on the HTC.--Edit: I stand corrected on that.

Oh, sorry I didn't see this as I was typing up my other response. That's a shame about it not being so useful outside of the US.

Nevermind about my audio question u answered it thank you.
[doublepost=1478190807][/doublepost]I went ahead and put in an order for the red HTC 10 and a pair of their hi res headphones. I own almost nothing that is red except my Nintendo 3DS so goodness only knows why I picked red. I liked silver with black but my My S7Edge is silver so I decided to get something I will definitely be able to see even without my glasses when I leave it sitting on the counter and forget where I left it. If I like it a lot I may cancel the Pixel preorder. If I'm "meh" about it the Pixel should arrive while I still have some time left to return the HTC 10.

It will be interesting to see which is the better phone on AT&T.

I do landscaping work and did hit my SE with a shovel handle. It was fine. I wonder if the HTC 10 would survive me better. The free one year Uh-Oh protection was too tempting to pass up at least trying the HTC 10 for 30 days. I might have been able to get a better deal on Black Friday but timing against my Pixel preorder is a factor here.

This was a tough one for me because I have some competing interests that make one phone better for me one way, the other phone better for me another way. Only the S7Edge ticks all my boxes except it's all glass and can't sit in my pocket safely for very long.

The high res audio headphones HTC supply are awesome and really comfortable. I actually went and bought a second pair as i find them so comfortable that i wanted another pair just in case .. (I've destroyed headphones in the past when i throw clothes into the washing machine and forget to check pockets !! Doh..)

It's a sturdy phone, I'm sure it will survive some abuse, but be gentle ? ;)

The Last Shangri-La
I've used the HTC 10 as a daily for the last 6 months - switched it 2 days ago for an iPhone 7 JB. Its a great phone overall - I have no real complaints about it. There was no lag or slowdown (which I've noticed with every Android I've owned around the 6 month mark). I had the Note 5 and the S6 edge before the HTC and I think the Note 5 was the better phone overall becase of the Spen but the HTC comes very close (probably on par depending on how you use it).

I think the HTC is studier than the Note 5 (the glass back didn't help the N5) - but I dropped the HTC twice on tile and concrete from pocket height and there is only a small dent (same corner both times) - I never did drop the N5 but looking at other stories and videos, I don't think it would have fared as well.

@MRU - I agree with the comment on the headphones - I got the Studio Pro as part of their promo and the headphones are great - very comfortable for in-ear (I'm usually an over-ear guy). I've continued using them with the iP7 (with their dongle lol).

It will be interesting to see if I keep or return the phone itself but I'm pretty sure I'll be keeping the headphones! I've got other devices I can use those on. Despite what Phil and Tim say, wired headphones are not dead in my world.

I'm not usually too hard on my phones but there is the occasional Uh-Oh for which I carry insurance on my iPhones and Samsung and bought the policy for the Pixel. Someone said they can't get a refund on the Pixel insurance when they return their Pixel phone so I need to check on that before my Pixel ships. Edit...just checked and as long as no claim is filed it can be canceled and refunded in full within 30 days.

I also just found out that I get a free 100 gb storage allotment on Google Drive for two years associated with my HTC 10 and my gmail/Google account that I've associated with my HTC.

I appreciate that HTC has made a quality product and is hungry for my business. I love iPhones and will eventually go back to carrying my SE again in the spring. But as far as buying an IPhone7 goes, it was hard to go for that choice this time around with all the promotional giveaways that are being associated with the Android phones I am using now. And I really do want a headphone jack.

I'm still testing my HTC out on a secondary line before transferring my primary sim from my SE into it. So far the HTC 10 has passed for call quality. My dad is always complaining about my iPhone and he said he could hear me very well on the HTC. I talked to him while out walking our rural road and going into the house. It held the call quality very well. And passed the speaker phone test.

It connects well so far to my GM truck's IntelliLink system. Wi-Fi connectivity has been good.

Today I will be testing the camera more.

So I pulled my HTC 10 out of storage and powered it on. Apparently I have to go through every single update in a row, and optimizing apps is becoming annoying.

Yeah, there were four or five updates I needed to do. That's one thing I hope they either fixed or are going to fix.

How is the HTC 10 on Nougat? That phone is too expensive right now, but I would certainly consider getting one for $200 or so.

I would describe it pretty much like stock Android. It's fast, the camera isn't changed up from before in any meaningful way from what I can tell. It was a great phone before and it is a better phone now.

Though every time I touch the home button, it feels weird to me now.

I wish iOS did notifications as well as Nougat.

It's a great phone when I had mine, very stable and on nougat it runs good and battery is great but I think htc made the phone too small and they need some type on lock screen notifications like Samsung and lg.

They go for around 340 right now on swappa so it's a good time to pick one up.
