Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has any regrets purchasing the SE?

I’m looking to dip a toe back into the iPhone world and have narrowed my search to either the SE or 6s. I’ve played around with both at the local Apple Store.

As a larger-screen Android user (BlackBerry DTEK60), I initially thought I would prefer the size and form of the 6s, but I find it slippery to hold and it does not really stir the soul. The SE feels great in the hand and seems to have a better build quality.

I’m not into selfies but am curious about the 3D Touch feature. Is it of any use? I also have recently purchased an iPad Pro, if that would have any impact.

Thanks!

3D Touch is marginal. The only time I use it is to move the cursor when typing to make corrections.

Since I have a jailbroken phone, the tweak I have - running your finger across the keys - accomplishes the same thing and is easier to do because you don't have to press down of the glass to initiate the 3dtouch.

So essentially, I don't use 3dtouch.

Go to a Apple Store and try it out.

I don't have any regrets. I came from using a Plus model for 3 years. I missed the big screen at first but after using the SE for a week, I'm fine. I can't believe I'm carrying this in my pocket again, thought I forgot it at home one day because it's so light. For a phone that feels substantial in the hand, it is very light.

3D Touch, never used it. I always forgot about it. I tried to use it but didn't find a big use for it.

After the iOS11 update, I'm noticing not only on this phone but my 7 Plus that wifi connections are problematic at work and at home. My iPad Pro 12.9 is slightly better but still has wifi issues. The app store takes forever to complete updates too. I always need to disconnect and reconnect wifi.

Between a 6S and SE I'd go SE all the way. It has better battery life, feels faster to me and I prefer the design. If you need dual cameras I'd recommend a 7 Plus on Swappa.

I picked up my unlocked, silver/white 128GB phone last Friday. I forgot that it was iPhone 8 release day, but I did not need to wait in line to buy an iPhone SE, and I was on my way in under 30 minutes including a trade in of a 16GB iPhone 5S.

I'm happy with the size and features of the iPhone SE, and it does seem a lot snappier than my old 32GB iPhone 5S (which has now been handed down).

I ended up grabbing one this afternoon. Can't believe how good of a deal it is and it will easily last me through my X preorder. It will make a nice backup phone for quite a while also.

Where is the Best Buy deal on their website?

I got an SE after the Keynote 2 weeks ago. Returned due to a dead pixel. The replacement phone also had a dead pixel and white ghosting in some pixels. Confirmed by Apple Genius Bar.

I didn’t opt for a 3rd and went for the iPhone 8. Very glad I did as it is amazing. I would have been happy with the SE, despite the small screen size, which did feel a little cramped coming from the 6 Plus.

But I’m glad things turned out the way they did. The 8 is perfect screen size for my needs.

I can never go back to the smaller iphone. My work cell is a 5s and it is hard switching back and forth typing on it. I’m amazed at the love for the SE. to each their own though.

I could never go to a bigger phone. Whenever I go to the Apple store or use my friends' Plus models to type something, it feels off and I hit the wrong keys while typing on those phones. It's all just preference in the end. You get used to each size.

While I still always want the latest iPhones (except iPhone X, which I will skip), I do think the iPhone SE is the last iPhone that actually has a robust design. My dad just got his iPhone 5s replaced with an SE, as he's not particularly a fan of the bigger displays. When I showed him my iPhone 8 Plus he was kind of shocked by its size. He thought the iPhone 7 was big already, and then I show up with an iPhone 8 Plus. :p

Nah, but I think the iPhone SE is a decent phone. Beautiful design, still pretty powerful, great camera etcetera. Overall a good phone. When playing a bit with it, I didn't notice any stutters or anything. And yes, it ran iOS 11 already (put it on there myself).

I can see why people would prefer the iPhone SE over any of the bigger iPhones. But I wouldn't go down that road myself, I got too used to the bigger iPhones haha.

Another SE lover here.

I went to the 6 on launch day and absolutely hated it, it was just bigger for absolutely no benefit. Android people kept on going on about the bigger screen being a must, easier to type on, better for watching movies, so at the time, the 6 seemed like a no-brainer, I was excited about it, and the screen was massive, I loved the new bigger screen... for about a day.

I'd been using an iPhone 5 for 2 years at this point, at any time in those two years had I had troubles typing? Nope. This newer bigger form factor had a habit of tumbling backwards out of my hand sometimes if I handled it like I did my 5.

In those two years, did I ever watch a video on my phone? Nope. I don't use social media, I don't have an instant gram and the only movies I ever watch (and not that often) are special interest gentlemen films which I can't/wouldn't watch in public on a phone anyway...

So what did the 6 get me? A bigger phone that dug into my thigh when I'm on my bike, that did nothing more than my previous phone did for absolutely no benefit. It makes me wonder what people that use Plus sized phones do with their life, I can't imagine anything that you'd do on a Plus couldn't be done on an SE? Besides requiring a handbag just to carry the damn thing.

I bought an SE on launch day and have never looked back.

Here's hoping the SE2 is even smaller!

The bigger screens allow you to see more.

I'm with you...I don't do social media, nor do I watch movies on my phone.

I do view YouTube videos though, but the smaller screen is fine for me.

Easy one-handed use is critical for me. That's something the 4.7" and larger models just don't give you.

Yeah, was a reply to all of the people saying they "couldn't" go back to a smaller screen, just from the other point of view...

I`m with you on this, brother. Get myself iPhone 8+, just to return it next day and get myself iPhone SE.

Man, feels like an upgrade...

I had an SE for about 3 days and loved it but due to bluetooth issues I was having I returned it. Also my family prodded me to get the 6S so that is what I did. I regret not keeping my SE, and I am still using the 6S. If Apple gives us an SE2 I will likely buy that next...if not I may just get a SE. The 6S has been a good phone buts its overly large imo for putting it in my pocket.

Like many of you I don't do social media, or watch movies, and only occasionally watch Youtube. Its rare I even use Safari on my phone. I think the size of the SE is just perfect for me. Heres hoping Apple updates it soon and continues with the 4 inch devices. I don't mind waiting 2-3 years for upgrades.

It's too bad that Verizon ended their phone subsidy last year.

Had they existed this year, I would have used my subsidy to buy the SE...eschewing to buy the newer iPhones.

There's something about the design that draws me to it.

My sister has an 5s (issued for work back in 2013) and it's still being used today.

Lots of drama about a phone. Sort of surprised anyone would get rid of their 7. See no reason to upgrade except for the sake of upgrading. The 8 actually uses the same case. Exactly the same case. The same exact dimensions as a 7 but heavier. May be faster, but how fast does Facebook or Twitter have to be at this point, really. The SE is a great phone that looks like a phone from several years ago.... but faster.

I totally agree with your disappointment with the current offerings. Why not choose an older looking model with updated internals. No where else to turn at this point but to look to the past. I’m waiting for them to recreate the original iPhone, but... faster. The current Apple has run out of creative ideas.

I defected from Android and bought an SE. A few month later I bought a brand new 6s. I only got the 6s for 3DTouch but now that Apple has removed the ability to force touch on the edge to get into multitasking in iOS 11, I'm using the SE a lot more.

I just love the smaller form factor, snappy performance and the look and feel... So much so that I'm seriously considering selling my 6s and gang back to the SE full time again.

The bigger screens allow you to see more.

Does it really though?

I've just upgraded from iPhone 7 to an iPhone 8 Plus (this is my very first 'Plus' model iPhone - never owned or used one before).

People say that the bigger screen allows you to see more however, I don't actually believe this is the case.

Case in point:

If you use any Twitter app for instance on the iPhone 7, your twitter feed may show, say 6 or 7 lines of tweets (I don't know exactly how many but that's not the point!) from people you follow. Compare that to bigger screen of the iPhone 7 Plus or iPhone 8 Plus. The same Twitter app, will STILL shows the same number of lines of tweets from people you follow, but it will just display the lines, bigger and wider to fill the larger screen so you're not really 'seeing more' - its just displaying the same info as a smaller screen, but in a bigger version.

Real Life example:

Looking at my Tweetbot app (which is a twitter app) on my big iPhone 8 Plus screen, it displays just FIVE lines of tweets from people I follow. This is EXACTLY the same amount of lines which is displayed by the same app on an iPhone 7 and also probably the same on the even smaller iPhone 5.

...so you're not really 'seeing more' on a bigger screen.

Thankfully SE has returned to quality build.

Amazing device, SE until 8
I honestly do not have any reason to upgrade for 1 or 2 years.

Looking forward to icloud text messages and Apple pay text messages -if both make it to UK I’ll be in tech heaven.
