The RAM I'm not too bothered about, my iPad is fast. it runs everything I want it to. But I wish they had put the gyro in the iPad. A lot of games will be developed to use the gyro, and they simply wont run on the iPad with it missing.

I hadn't thought about that but I think that you have a point there about the gyro. However iPhone games look pretty naff on the iPad anyway. But I do think that the ipad's lack of a gyro is a far bigger deal than the RAM, or any other issues that I have heard up to now.

Apple's model has always been planned obsolescence. It sucks for some people who don't realize that, or are too lazy to work around it, but it is a fact of Apple life.

Sites like this are the way smart people can get around it. It's not hard to pick up on when a model/product will be refreshed/updated... Apple products hold their resale value better than almost any other computer product on the market. I sold my 5,2 MacBook a week before the new 7,2 came out for 50$ less than I paid for it, then bought the new model. I sold my iPad for 150$ MORE than I paid for it a week ago when I saw the iPhone 4 was coming and had better/same specs and more functionality (camera, HD video, same CPU, same (at the time) RAM, etc).

I really don't understand this logic... The iPad and the iPhone serve two completely different purposes. I always have my iPhone on me, and I have alot of apps on it that I can open up, get some quick info, close down and go on. My iPad on the other hand I take with me on specific situations, and it has a whole different set of apps on it (that are designed for iPad specifically) and tend to be apps that I sit down and use for extended periods of time.

You CAN run iPhone apps on the iPad, but why not focus on all the iPad specific apps that take advantage of the larger screen? There's one spec the iPhone WILL NEVER beat the iPad with - physical screen real estate - and it allows for a whole different type of app.

I love my iPad as much as I did the first day I got it, and I can't figure out how a completely different product getting a spec bump should change that. The point about the gyro is true, but if I recall correctly games are a lot smaller percentage of apps on iPad than they are on iPhone.

How about the fact that the iPhone costs more than the iPad?

Good one. :D

But seriously, the iPad is really fast. Technology is always changing and if you are to go around crying that the iPhone has more ram and the iPad sucks because of it, you are going to be a very unhappy camper. The general user doesn't give a damn about the ram or any of the specs. They just want the product to work.

Here's the recipe for happiness: Look at the things you've got, and be happy with them. And if someone you like has something, then be happy for them. If someone you don't like has something, then don't let it bother you.

Here's the recipe for unhappiness: Concentrate not on the things you have got, but on the things you haven't got, and let every single bit that you haven't got annoy you, plus let everything that someone else got annoy you as well.

Well put. Great to see a most positive view here on MR.

Should be inscribed on T-Shirts, sets of coasters, napkins, school lunchboxes, screen savers, etc.

My iPad is fast. It's a joy to use. I don't really care about the actual tech specs. That's the beauty of Apple products, I forget all about the science behind the product as soon as I start using it.

I feel the same. With most things I like to know the working behind it and how it functions, but with Apple products I just use it and forget everything else.

(Although I do still care about the specs, they're just not as important in the iPad)

The iPad is barely two month old, but the new iPhone has 2x the amount of RAM and the same chip (albeit possibly underclocked). Has this bothered anyone else? I know that technology is constantly being outdated, but months ago when the iPad launched they knew that the new iPhone would have 512 MB of Ram.

This really grinds my gears.

It grinds my gears that MacRumors is now nothing more than a public bitch and moan forum for people who have nothing better to do than complain about everything. For the most part, the specs of the new iPhone have been out for a while and they are more or less spot on. Take it back if you bought one, get a netbook to go along with a life and oh never mind.

Looks like a troll bait thread to me.

Just enjoy your iPad, especially if it's performing well for you. My MBP is faster than the iPhone 4. So what. I still use my iPad more. ;)

Thanks linsam for a great post. You are soooooo correct. These countless whining threads that go no where are becoming more and more of a pain to deal with. Someone posted that MacRumors is becoming more and more like Twitter and Facebook (storage for useless information and posts).

I don't get it. Does your iPad now perform worse than it did before the iPhone 4 was announced? Does it do less than it did than when you purchased it? No.

So what does it matter how much RAM it has? If you thought it was fast enough when you bought it, then it still is now. If you didn't, why'd you buy it?

Keep in mind that the iPhone is also a more expensive product. A 32 GB iPhone 3G is actually a $700+ product if not sold at a loss.

AT&T sells it for $299 because they're eating a 300-400 dollar loss and then milking you for $1500 or more a year on phone service for two years minimum.

Here's the thing – has this announcement caused any detriment to the performance of your iPad? I didn't think so.

Try and forget about it and enjoy your iPad as you did before.

It's sort of a moot point, as devs can't make use of more than 32 meg in an iOS application.

...............

I would like iMovie on the ipad or garageband (garageband would be awwwwesome on the ipad) I know people will say why imovie.. theres no camera... but if you could import your vid clips in and edit it would be prettyyyyyyyy coooool.

yep!

the people who continue to screech about imovie on ipad and no camera can't see past their nose long enough to recognize importing video.

You want to use your fast computer's fast IO system to export massive amounts of data to your slow tablet with its slow IO system?

Man that thing is more magic than I thought.

when I'm on a trip ............. yeah. Do you still need glasses or can you see better now? ;)

edit: There's no iMovie for Windows. Ever since they messed up windows movie maker (took out the timeline, etc, really decontented it) I've been searching for a similar, unbloated, video editor.

It doesnt perform worse, but it does close down apps automatically while I mutitask due to insufficient memory, and it would have been very cheap to go ahead and put 512 in. It is very lame of Apple to make their ipad obsolete quickly so as to nickel and dime fans of their devices. One of these days there will be a backlash against apple when people get sick and tired of paying a premium for inferior hardware

Conversely, I get tired of the Apple can do no wrong people that get upset if anyone has anything negative to say about an apple product.

you might want to check out pinnacle studio, they have a few different versions ranging from $50-$130. I work in final cut pro so I can't say from experience but I was checking out their videos of their latest version last week and it seems to be fairly straight forward and simple.

My iPad still working flawlessly, like the day I bought it. So who cares ?
