all of these ticked as well?

Also don't forget to probe Siri with the "get me directions to work/home" as it will then start to assume that's where you're trying to go at certain times like from home to work or vice versa.

I don´t have those 4 options, just 2 of them. In my iPhone are missing "sounds" and "badges".
By the way, in location services I have all thicked and I go to work everyday at the same time and return to home at the same time always in the same route. 2 months since my new iPhone (6s plus) and I don't have any traffic information :(

and you have your contact card updated with addresses for home and work?

also, on your frequent locations screen, do you see where you have been to a,b,c,d, etc for x amount of times, given date ranges?

Yes to both questions. I have everything needed to make it work but it doesn't.

I can't tell you what settings it takes to work but you don't need to be connected to Bluetooth in your vehicle for it work. I get alerted every Saturday morning in my house telling me what time to leave for my daughter's dance class if I want to make it in tin. Both vehicles are in the garage powered off. And I don't have notifications turned on in vehicle Bluetooth connections for either vehicle. I've had that setting on and I thought all it did was get me my txt messages in the vehicle. I found it distracting so I shut it off long ago.

Thanks. I'll check those out. Are they good at adjusting when a traffic incident occurs?
Sorry for the late reply, I'm setting up a new project office. So, so tired but need my MR fix! Yes, both are "on it" for updating. You've got nothing to lose with INRIX - it's free - that app allows for setting an event radius or route-based warning system, and keep in mind that INRIX works with most (if not all) of the DOTs for traffic data - my new office in remote rural WA State, and there's no Google/Waze/Apple/TomTom traffic data out there - but INRIX is working there as their data comes from WSDOT. ETA is location/designated destination-based, and gives you the option of using Waze, Apple, Google, and others as the source of mapping and driving time estimation.

Move, or change your route - both apps adjust to your situation.

INRIX has a subscription for additional services, but I've never needed it. Some of my clients are WSDOT and ODOT - INRIX data is in their command centers, and it doesn't get much more accurate than that IMHO. I'm off to Seattle tomorrow, and I know I'll have my butt covered for traffic (this, coming from a native NY'er...).

FWIW, I also use Weather Underground's Wundermap app - one of its options for viewing data is "Webcams". Many of those webcams are DOT cameras - I've never been one to trust those pretty green lines, IYKWIM? I owned a TomTom GO 910 and it ran me into a wall of brake lights once and I'll never trust cams or maps again - I need both! I'm too old to spend time in traffic! :p

what you're describing sounds like appointments with locations that you have set up in your calendar with the "travel time" feature ticked on...

what others seem to be trying to figure out here is the proactive features based off of frequent locations without the use of the calendar...

Here is where you are going to say "ah, that's why it doesn't work" hahaha
No, I don't have BT on, I never use it because I don't have anyBT device and in my car I don't have CarPlay.
I asked before if BT was necessary for traffic to work.

Fair enough. It also tells me how long it takes to get home after dance classes in the evenings and on Saturdays which isn't in my calendar. I haven't noticed if that comes up only after I'm connected to Bluetooth in the vehicle or not. I'll pay attention this week to see.

haha, turn it on and be amazed...maybe? If on my today screen i can see "Right now it would take you blah blah blah to arrive to A or B" once i get in my car (and have bluetooth on), traffic/travel info will show on the lock screen which is a safety feature, but if you have your iPhone unlocked it will also show under the notifications tab. (reference my pictures on page one of this thread)

Oh and i don't have CarPlay either, but i can pair my iPhone with my Honda just fine.

sounds like you have a mixture of both! :D

I looked and could not find this widget. Where can I find it?
It should be in the list of widgets that could be added, but I believe only when iOS recognizes it can provide that information (based on various location services being enabled, locations gathered, etc.).

On the Today screen, scroll down to the bottom and tap edit, then you should see "Traffic Conditions".

I'm not totally agree with that statement because I've seen that when I do a clean installation with no restore, it is always present. I mena, I install iOS as new and second step for me is to disable some widgets, traffic conditions is always there as an option even if there is no location history.

I know on a few devices I deal with I never had that widget (likely because I have traffic related location services and frequent locations and various other similar setting disabled from the beginning).

It's a miracle! 4 weeks after having the phone I got my first traffic alert this morning. Must have just needed to take that long I guess. So weird.

What did you actually get? I get the travel time in notification center today widget, but I have never gotten a proactive notification that was not directly related to a calendar entry.

Please describe.

I basically got a notification that traffic was normal and it would take me 42 minutes to get to work.

Honestly, I wouldn't have believed it myself but for seeing a persistent message on my main iPhone 6S+ and my iPhone 6S throughout the day, during a road trip to Seattle. I'm back in the Portland area now, and both are telling me how long it'll take to get somewhere. My only issue is that it's to Skamokawa WA, where I spent a few days with my mom and some of her friends over last weekend - not home or anywhere I am regularly. Heck, it's a start, and I didn't need to do anything - I just turned on an iPhone and there it was, but I was looking for my ETA app estimation and was surprised to see the Apple notification as well.

Now, if I could only get it to estimate where I really need to be...

Yeah I'm guessing it will forget that location after a while.

And hopefully this feature will continue to be worked on. It would be great to have an on/off option and maybe a way of customizing.

Well, I have everything turned "on" that I know to turn on. I have never received a proactive notification. I just learned that my wife gets them all the time.

Any other ideas?

There's a "yeah, but..." I cleared out my "Frequent Locations" after checking out "why" one of the locations is the "place to go..." on my two iPhones - it's my mom's place, and each of my iPhones are on different cell networks - one's on ATTWS and the other's on VZW, with my mom's town literally on the fringe of network coverage. Going about 300 feet up the road there's no cell coverage whatsoever as that location is behind a hill (I know where the towers are as I helped locate them years ago) - and the room I crash in is behind the neighbor's metal carport. Sooooo...

My ATTWS phone has decent service, but it's always fading between LTE and 4G and sometimes EDGE with a "No Service" from time to time. The VZW phone doesn't work well except in one room - the county mom's in is in USCC territory but I'm never on "Extended" coverage there, opting for the weaker VZW tower in OR across the Columbia River.

What I noticed between the two iPhones' Locations was that my VZW phone (with the weaker, but constant, connection) had "3 visits" and my ATTWS phone had "26 visits", even though both were with me most of the time - my VZW phone is my main driver and goes with me everywhere, while the ATTWS phone generally sat at mom's place. I'm surmising that the "reconnection" of the phones to a network ultimately "logs" my location in the Privacy Location Services - I have had the ATTWS phone since 12/31 and I certainly haven't been to-and-from mom's place 25 times since then, I've been there 3 times as my VZW handset has registered.

Also, check out the postings in this thread that I commented in yesterday - there may be more to Apple's Maps backend than they're making public (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/apple-maps-home-business-listings.1954606/) - I think it's not a coincidence that both of these service updates went live on the pretty much the same day...

I've cleared out my phone's Frequent Locations (my two iPads as well - they're both cellular models), and we'll see what the next few days brings. I'm heading to the Seattle area Monday to buy a new-used Benz E550, so I'll be putting this feature to the test! Cheers!

I posted earlier about checking the Health app to see if your iPhone is listed as a data source but no one replied to it. This may seem unrelated but I wasn't getting any proactive notifications until this was fixed. In Health, go to Sources and your phone should be listed there. If it's not, try doing the following which worked for me and many others on the Apple support forums. It also fixed my proactive alerts problem.

  • Complete an unencrypted iTunes backup on the computer
  • Turn off Find my iPhone
  • Under backups select "restore backup," not "restore iPhone settings"
  • Restore from your latest unencrypted backup
  • Go to Settings, Privacy, Motion & Fitness and toggle off/on Fitness Tracking
This fixed this problem for me so it may be worth a shot.
