Congrats! Took me forever to choose between the 15” MBA, 14” MBP, and 16” MBP.

It boiled down to the 15” MBA vs. the 16” MBP. I like the screen real estate. I use apps side by side all the time. I don’t need the processing or GPU power of the MBP at all, so I thought the MBA would be perfect. When I went to see it in the store I was disappointed. Next to the MBPs, it looked like a toy. The oversized chassis without speaker grills (even faux ones) on the sides looked very cheap and plasticy. And then I looked at the screens side by side. The contrast and quality of the MBP screen alone is a reason to ditch the MBA. And then you start scrolling and see how buttery smooth the ProMotion is and MBA loses any redeeming qualities.
Agree, i am deciding between 16" M1 or M2 Pro/Max. From what ive seen, the M2 doesnt offer a lot over m1, but hdmi 2.1 is really nice for me, but imk jot worth paying a grand or more just for that....choices, choices...

I definitely wanted the MBP. I’m a musician and I want it for the ports. I use the SD Card a couple times a week and I wanted the HDMI. My wife has a couple cheap monitors that she just bought recently that I’ll eventually check out. I”ll also be using the thunderbolt ports for a external sound card.
Great choice! I am mainly considering that exact spec for my video/photo editing,i just am worried that 16gb of RAM wont be enough, and especially since i cannot upgrade anything at all, so i am stuck with 16GB.
Did you get M2 or M1?
I am still racking my brains like you were, deciding.....its insane! I dont how much ram i need, i know 16gb is probably fine but at the same time i know that Lightroom eats up RAM and especially when stitching/editing high res (20-60MP) photos....i probably want more ram then, but....it drives me nuts!

I got the new M2

I thought about that. I don’t do a ton of video stuff but I use a cheap program called “Cute Cut Pro” and it’s not very strenuous on a computer. I’ve been saying I’m gonna upgrade to Final Cut for years but I never do … lol. Final Cut only needs 8GB ram so 16GB should be good. I don’t see myself ever needing the extra power. I do little 20 second videos for my music on social media. Occassionally I’ll do a 3 minute thing but when you look at the stats, nobody watches them past 10 seconds anyways

I’m pretty sure this new MBP 14” will run way better than my 2014 iMac.

Ok, thanks.

Took me a month to decide cause I‘m a tortured Libra.
Way too many options to choose from and my head almost exploded

MBP 14” 16 GB RAM - 1TB on the way. So exciting

Can I get a attaboy 🤘
I have the same config but older edition (M1 Pro). I love it. I put a 1TB micro SD card in the slot (with a short adapter) for TM backups. Best Mac I've ever owned.

Congrats dude. I’m going to be in this same situation when the M3 MacBook Pros drop. I’ll be clicking different configurations while swearing at my screen for hours. 😊 And of course it will take me several weeks of doubting what I want versus what I need. I can’t wait for the anxiety!

That’s a great idea. I need a 1TB something for backups. I’m debating on removing the 1TB Samsung SSD that I put in my 2011 MBP a year ago and putting the old original drive back in it as I know I’ll never use my 2011 MBP ever again.

I think it’s a pretty cool idea as well. Would be a great way to do TM back ups while on the road.

When do the M3’s come out ?

Congratulations, a nice machine. Hopefully you have a lot of fun with it!

And then, when the M3 machines are finally on the market, you can start the same process again… if you want! ;)

ha I also get weirdly obsessed with which machine to get. I nearly ordered one at the beginning of the year but since decided to hold out and see if they release a larger iMac this year. I can't make up my mind between that if it comes or a portable with a studio display. its the costlier option but I like the idea of being able to take my laptop around the house as opposed to being chained to the home office.

I'm also amazed how my 2014 iMac keeps chugging along so maybe I'll just see how long that lasts..

Dont forget you can use an iPad as a secondary screen if you have one.

It’s a big decision and a purchase not made often.

Tracking says I get it this Monday Aug 7th :)

What time zone ? The 9th is Wednesday here.
Oops I mean’t Monday the 7th. It was originally Wednesday the 9th

(I'm excited too after reading that an iPad may be used as a secondary display.)
Yeah that is cool. I read that on this forum. Gonna definitely try it out with my iPad Pro 12.9. I also bought a black Magic Mouse for my new MBP 14. I use a mouse with Logic Pro on my IMac so I figured why not with the Laptop.

FWIW, I’ve been trying to cleanup all the 9 years of files on my iMac so when I migrate it all to the MBP, it won’t be crap … lol I hope 🤞
