I want to go all in with the 12.9 but worried about being to big from what used too. Mobility and couch usage. Table or desk wouldn’t be an issue. If serious, I need to just buy and try.

If i have learnt one thing on here don't believe the naysayers, i held off getting a 12 max because of all the too big/heavy whiners, got one and love it.
Go for it.

I prefer the 11” form factor and will likely order the base model with cellular (essentially get it for free with $150-$200 rebate depending on carrier).

I will say I am intrigued by the new screen tech of the 12.9”, but if it’s essentially just better screen brightness, then I won’t feel like I’ve missed much. The resolution differential seems to be the same between the two models.

It's basically like a MacBook Air.

I think you are looking at it all wrong. 2TB model won’t be sought after as much as the 1TB model on the resale market, just saying.

I understand what your saying, but i find when selling products, companies will pay you more to sell to them if you have a ”top spec device”

I can't do it, personally. I'm in the market for a new iPad Pro and I currently have both the 12.9 and 10.5 inch 2017 iPad Pros and I almost never use the 12.9 except for in one situation, which is using it for sheet music on gigs and such. In every other situation I use the 10.5. The 12.9 is like dragging around a cookie sheet in comparison!

I really wish the 11-inch 2021 iPad Pro got the screen update, which has me on the fence waiting another year.

And, higher storage models of iPad/iPhone go for a relative steal second hand. You take a big hit on the balance sheet going big in storage, in no way is it a good idea if you’re thinking purely in terms of resale. People buying second hand aren’t paying top dollar for max storage.

In the specific case of the new iPad, as you say the 1TB will retain some value due to 16gb ram versus lower storage. The 2TB, nope.

I know from experience, I almost always max out! If ipadOS 15 is amazing, I’ll buy a 2TB and use it for years.

980 € for an LTE 256 GB version...

God damn I'm tempted. That's 520 less than the 2021 version.
Me too...and you can get the current Magic Keyboard for 300€ instead of 400€. If it is really incompatible with the M1 iPad you have to get the new one for list price...it really adds up.

Sad that the 11" iPad Pro only basically got the M1 and Thunderbolt... :(
It only feels sad by comparison! If the 12.9 hadn’t gotten the new display it would have been the biggest jump in iPad Pro performance yet.

But I hear you, I don’t think I’m upgrading (yet). Whereas a new screen would have me pre-ordering. I’m just not ready to jump up in size.

It's not only better screen brightness, but also much better contrast and true blacks in some instances.

This is something I'd be particularly interested in. I came to enjoy iOS in dark mode in the evening while the room is just lit by a dim light.

And it definitely looks better on my iPhone 11 Pro's OLED Display vs my 2018 11 iPad Pro's display (black areas are really black with no light bleed on the iPhone, and while the iPad isn't bad there is a clear and visible difference).

Hoping the new display tech on the iPad would come close in this type of use case (although I know it isn't OLED), and a bit disappointed it is only coming to the 12.9 model.

You need to ask yourself if difference in resale price difference between the 1 and 2 TB versions is larger than initial price between the 1 and 2 TB versions. I didn't check on the initial price difference but if you pay a $400 premium up front and get $250 more when you resell, you've lost money. Upgrades when purchasing will generally not pay for themselves when reselling. If you NEED 2 TB, but all means buy 2 TB. But in the long run you're not likely to make save money.

exactly we need to hold hands.
Haha, same here - really thinking about it. I was pretty set on not upgrading my 2018 11" iPad Pro, and I'm already likely going to jump on the 16" MBP later this year to replace my 2016 13" MBP.

I'm already thinking about trying to justify the purchase by gifting my iPP to a family member...
I spent a whole day thinking who do I give my Galaxy Tab S5E to.
Nothing so far.
Everyone's in Apple ecosystem, and it would be a waste to sell it, because it's a two-year sluggish Android device that has already lost half of it's original value. It's still on Android 10 because for Samsung devices you have to wait months for any major update, which will likely be the last.

When I'm watching something in 16:9 format in a dark room on my 2018 iPP, I can still see the black bars on top and bottom but they're not true black, it's still backlit. With the new 12.9 iPP these bars will be completely black, as well as the larger areas in the video where it's supposed to be black. It won't be as good as OLED, but it'll be good enough for me. I'll definitely get the new 12.9"

Im not expecting to make back what I pay in terms of 1TB compared to 2TB or vice versa but I will always get a better resell price if I have the “top spec” version that’s what I find.

Try sell top spec iPhone 12 Pro Max 512gb over same version with 256gb and the price will be more for the 512gb version.

Judging by the announcement of the newest iPad Pro with the M1 chip... we can expect a big update for iPadOS 15. I've never been this excited for a product release in a long time. I believe the last time I was excited from a potential product release was the iPhone X.

But I think this time is different, because it's one of those things that as a avid iPad user... I've been waiting on. The iPad is one product I advocate on Apple behalf and it's one device that's irreplaceable for me. And yeah, I understand as a long term investment 2 TB seems like a good buy especially if you are keeping it for years.

Only reason why I still have the 2018 iPad Pro.. was due to the 2020 model being an mediocre upgrade. I've been a 12.9 user since it's introduction.. but I'll most likely skip a generation or two if I were to buy a 1TB or 2 TB model.

Yes same experience for me and I would indeed expect the new 12.9 to address this. I am toying with the idea of getting one because of this, but I use my iPad a lot for reading/browsing/video while on the sofa, lying in bed, or in the room in which we are all ashamed of using it ... and I’m afraid I’ll find it too large and heavy for those situations (I am typing this message one my 11 while sitting on the sofa and I am wondering if doing the same thing would be as confortable with the larger one).

I get that it is due to supply constraints, but it is a shame they restricted the new display to the 12.9.

“Available Second Half Of May” - so that could mean at the very end of May :( So that could be another 4 or 5 weeks:oops:

It definitely could mean that. But Apple has a history of sandbagging dates and exceeding them in order to "delight" customers.

I'm slightly optimistic.
