Sure enough, FedEx failed again. I seriously think there is no quality control with FedEx.

I can remember reading recently that FedEx has apparently outsourced their home delivery to independent drivers now (can anyone verify?). Since these people are not FedEx employees, it's really a crapshoot as to whether you'll get good service or not.

Fedex

I to have had alot of trouble with Fedex. I ordered a mac mini for my daughter for Christmas/Birthday, on the Fedex site it said delivered, keep in mind the package required a signature. The package was no where to be found, so I called Fedex, about an hour later they delivered it. It seems everytime I have a package shipped Fedex there is some sort of issue, UPS on the other hand has been flawless. It amazes me that a company like Apple that has such great customer service uses Fedex at all.

Takes 2 seconds on my dual 2GHz PowerMac with 1 GB RAM.

Yeah, but how many pictures? I think with a library of 5000+ images like I have the start time will be slower. Still fast enough for me at around 12 seconds.

BTW, reading the license agreement on the family pack has one exclusion that I don't agree with. It says the family pack must be used on computers that reside in the same physical house. Personally, that is wacked.

My daughter has a G4 iMac. I would like to get her the upgrade to iLife 06, but she lives in a different household (lives with her mother).

I thought the idea of a family pack was for different members of your immediate family, regardless of location... like say a child you send off to college. I mean, I know this isn't a license for your freiends and neighbors.

I'll most likely get her her own copy.... but not without some complaining.

I applaud you for your honesty in the license. I for one, as much as I want to agree to terms of licenses, would say to hell with the license in your case.

Actually, the SLA Addendum states:

By "household" we mean a person or persons sharing the same housing unit such as a home, apartment, mobile home or condominium. This license does not extend to students who reside at a separate on-campus location or to business or commercial users.

So, although not within the letter of the law, I don't think Apple will come calling...

Really sucks when the realities of the world collide with corporate profits.

Fedex took over Roadway Express, which is a franchised service IIRC.

For every bad story about Fedex, there are just as many for UPS. In fact I will go out of my way not to use UPS.

I too have no troubles with UPS. Anytime I send anything that's not letter size I use UPS.....I'll never use FedEx again.

...and now back to our topic - iDVD doesn't

Well picked up my ilife. ALl seems well, except iDVD doesn't work.

While trying to create or open a project, it says "Loading Themes" and just sits there forever.

A few other folks in the APple site forums have had this happen - but being Friday I don't think Apple is dying to fix this on a long weekend.

Anyone else see there or have a suggestion?

I am considering buying iLife '06, mainly for iWeb. I need to make a webpage for my church, and so far with GoLive everything looks like it was done by an amateur (because it was  ). iWeb seems like it has some very cool features, but all of the templates look like something that matches personal websites more.
My website will be very simple (probably 5 pages or less), but I want it to look like a business website, not Joe's Vacation pics from Hawaii.
Does anyone here think I could pull it off with iWeb?

The iWeb app's pages can be worked to meet your needs. Just remember on pages that have photos as the header, you can put in what you want. It may mean buying some art disks, but it is doable.

There are four templates that may be suitable (i.e. without the "vacation" look) - balck, white, modern, and formal. On this page examples include the one in the middle (formal - "our happiest day") the one just to the left (white - "thats me - Kevin") and the one in the background (modern).

======
EDIT: other observations

The iWeb interface is very similar to iWork. Very easy to use.

The iLife 06 apps have taken the level of integration to another level - to the degree that I have found it best to open iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, and iDVD at the same time (iMovie and iDVD hung a couple of times when other apps were not already open).

FWIW iPhoto is now opening in 12 seconds (1.33PB with 1400 photos & videos in the library on an external FW800).

iMovie has added themes (cool) and moved titles, transitions, video FX & audio FX under an Editing button. Video FX includes quartz effects. There is a small number of additional title effects.

iDVD has a new look and feel - the customise drawer is no longer a drawer (it is now permanently on the interface), themes are becoming more sophisticated - matched themes for title, chapters and extras.

Garageband can edit a movie soundtrack.

Haven't had time to play extensively, but from what I can see (and for my needs) it is a value for money upgrade from iLife 05.

Thanks. I think I could make white or black work; both are very simple. Do you know if you have to use a template?
I think I'm gonna go to the Apple Store tomorrow; do that have '06 on their machines there?

I haven't had time to fool around with iWeb too much, but from what I can see you do need to use a template. However, the white template is almost the same as not having a template and is reasonably flexible without requiring any technical knowledge. I have no idea about the Apple store.

Mine arrived today. I imported all of my pics into iPhoto and played around with it a bit. I also messed around with iWeb some and I think I'll really like it once I get to use it more.

BTW, iPhoto takes a little over 2 seconds to fully load for me on my Power Mac. (over 700 pics, specs are in the sig)

How long would you class forever? iDVD always took an age to open up the very first time you used a new version of it (I was reminded of this recently opening iDVD 5 on a Mac that hadn't used it before). Dump your preferences and try loading it again in the background and leave it for 20 minutes or so.

I like iPhoto, the themes look good in iMovie and iDVD; I need to import some footage to test it properly. Not entirely sure I've understood all the 'rules' behind themes and how you then mix them with other things.

The Core Video effects are in there but not sure how much use some of them might be other than just for fun! Can't think of many times I'll want a 'dent' in my video.

I've also managed to crash iMovie, iDVD and iWeb so far... although could be because I was loading stuff in to see what happened rather than working on a sensible project!

I got iLife from my local Apple store as well yesterday, but there is one seriously lame piece to iWeb that not many people have picked up on yet....

You can only publish your site from ONE Mac/User......

Yes, you heard that correctly....it even points this out in the support section of apple.com.....

At home, I want to use my "outdated" iSight iMac to create my site but if say I take a trip and want to update my blog via my Powerbook I can't, SOL.....

Or if I just want to work on my site on my PB downstairs and don't want to head up to my Office....SOL

This is so ridiculous that at first I thought I MUST be missing something, but when I went to apple.com I found this........it provides a work-around if I'm heading out of town, but still seems utterly ridiculous

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303045

I'm sure this will be fixed soon, but stil beyond lame

Um, it's a client-side app. If you want do some Photoshop work on your iMac and then downstairs on your PB... SOL. If you want do some Keynote work on your iMac and then downstairs on your PB... SOL.

The way to do this is simple and explained by Apple and is the same for almost every other client-side app: copy your work from machine to machine.

I do this all the time for LOTS of apps between a PB and a PM. I use chronosync to synch bi-directional with deletions. In your case, you would synch ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb

I'm wondering how the new iMovie themes perform on older machines like a 1Ghz G4 iMac? Anyone have a similar machine and willing to test this out?

Thanks.

I just tried a few on my son's iBook 12" 1.2GHz G4, 768MB. The themes seemed to work fine. Sometimes they take a few seconds to load, but then they preview fine and drag/drop to the zones and chaging titles and playback was smooth. I tried the Travel and Reflections themes from iLife '06.

All the apps load fairly quickly on my iBook (see sig) but that's compared to iLife 04.
Not impressed with iWeb, the templates are quite constraining, but would be useful to make a one off photo gallery very quickly and easily.

My first thoughts.

About iPhoto...if anyone can tell me different, thank you ahead of time.
I went to backup my photos lastnight and after selecting everything (Library) it asked for the disc to be inserted (same as 5 so far). Next in the drop down box, as I used a DVD-RW it gave me the option of a single layer dvd or using a DL dvd for a total of 7.7GB
I never really noticed it before so I just wanted to know if this was new?
Anywho, So far I like everything but haven't used the iWeb part just yet (I'll be getting the .Mac soon).
Thanks to Applespider for a tip in another thread (iPhoto) about taking off Drop shadow and changing the background to black as for one: it's faster and two: I like the black background better than the white. Also a note, the # of photos in a roll to the right is nice to have now on display. Guess that's it for now :)

I have a question about iWeb

I want to display jpgs that are not on my iDisk, as they update constantly (one is a chart of my music from last.fm and the other is my Xbox 360 gamercard from mygamercard.net) is their anyway to do this? other then that i like iWeb a lot :D

iWeb is really easy to use, but I wish you could work on multiple sites. Now I simply want to create a page and upload it to another site, but when I export to a folder, I have to export everything that I have done.

I just got my copy this afternoon! No problems at all -- the widescreen DVD menus in iDVD look good. I like the chapter menus and the integration with iMovie HD. All the programs seem to run well, although I haven't had time to explore each in-depth. Of the iLife suite, only iWeb and iPhoto run on a G3 (besides iTunes). Both run well, although iWeb is sluggish on a 450 MHz G3. On an 800 MHz G3 both work fine.
