problem using IWEB

I've tried to upload my web pages twice now, and both times got error messages. Not a huge problem, i expect it the first few times while i figure this out, but i found something that is really annoying and was wondering if there is a way to work around it.

I am uploading about 254MB on my pages. The last time i tried it uploaded about 98 percent of it then quit, saying there was an error with a photo. I deleted the photo, but it looks like there is no way for it to start uploading again at the last complete page. 13 out of 14 pages were uploaded to my idisk, but i couldn't find any way to publish them to .mac without deleting them all and starting all over again. wouldn't be a big deal, but it takes about an hour to upload all this.

am i missing something? or is this the only way to do this.

if so, it was nicer working with the web pages in .mac with the data already uploaded.

Am I missing it, or is there no way for readers to leave comments to the blog?
I wonder if I can use Haloscan somehow. Very uncool. I hope I'm just not looking in the right place.

Mine should be here on Saturday.

I don't know anything about creating a website, so I'm excited to see what I can do with iWeb... if I like it I might just get a .mac account. Yeah it's sounding pretty limited right now, but I'm ok with that and I'm sure they'll expand on it.

You change the name of the photo pages in iWeb. All you have to do is click on the name of the page you want to rename in the left hand column in the iWeb program, just as if you were going to rename a file in the finder. After the name is highlighted, rename it and call it whatever you want. :)

Thanks. Tried it first, but I guess a double click is needed. So all is well now.

That would be I. I don't know the least bit about web stuff.

As far as only having 8-10 templates, I'm sure Apple could release more templates in the future right? In some form of software update or maybe even via .Mac.

Me too. I have done web page design back in the "dark ages". iWeb will make it easier, and it seems to be just enough for my needs.

It would be great if Apple adds some more themes as a bonus for .Mac users.

This will be harder than it looks I suspect, because iWeb saves its native files locally and then converts them into html and images for upload to the server. The trick I mentioned above, where iWeb converts text fields to a graphics image, wouldn't work if the Mac doing the editing didn't have access to the original iWeb files. So I don't think it's a lame limitation -- it's apparently inherent to the way iWeb works.

Shame about this limitation. My main computer is my iMac G5. And with iWeb I was tempted to add my PB 12" to my European trip next month. I guess this will save me some weight on this trip, not having to (or wanting to) carrying my PB then.

iLife -> Applications -> Pro Applications

iPhoto -> Aperture
iMovie -> Final Cut Express -> Final Cut Pro
iDVD -> DVD Studio Pro
GarageBand -> Logic Express -> Logic Pro
iWeb -> ????

Anyone noticed iTunes is strangely not part of iLife anymore? It is still part of the digital lifestyle even if it is free and sits uncomfortably as a second music application.

Some good food for thought.

BTW, I thought I saw iTunes as an option for install. (Yep, just confirmed that iTunes was there for install).

That seems to be a serious omission for some of us. But given that Apple wants iWeb to drive .Mac sales, they were probably worried about comments that cross the line for their .Mac service.

Wheeee! :D

Honestly, I havn't had a lot of time to get iWeb up and running, but I really think this will replace Dreamweaver for my piddly arse web page. My install was less than 10gb as I thought it said. Its more like 7.5Gb and i checked each box I could see. Oh well. I did my part to push those Apple shares (which I really should have bought @ 12.00 ea back in the 68k->PPC days) up up up.

...off to watch Broken Flowers.

The keynote really made iPhoto look like an "Aperture Express". Is that kinda how it feels? I'm still stuck in the '04 era and been thinking about upgrading with the new updates. '05 didn't strike me as a need to have product.

I know that this has been somewhat covered, but I think it really sucks that you can't upload webpages to multiple .Mac accounts, and choose which site goes where. I have my own .Mac account, and I maintain a site for my brother on his .Mac account and it rather appears that I have to choose one or the other to work on, and then it looks like I am going to have to create a new user account if I want to use iWeb with my .Mac account, or vice versa if that is the way I choose to go. I hope they fix this in future versions, but after reading some of the posts on this thread, I am not sure it can be done. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

nope definitely not worth it looking back at it... :(

First impressions, iPhoto is worth the upgrade in itself, much faster, and I love the full screen editing. I think there is a bug where you click 'compare' and it compares with the next picture, not the one I'm editing.

It's a tad annoying how the Month only shows up when scrolling using the side bar though, would like it to work with my mouse.

I didn't think I'd be taken by the Pod-casting in Garageband, but it really is simple to use and I've already created a couple very quickly. I can see it as a simple way to send my family little holiday slideshows with me waffling on over the top.

Haven't used iMovie and iDVD much, iMovie I find a little unstable, and it crashed once when I tried a Theme, still, seems to be a tiny bit snappier than before, the interface seems a but less clunky, and there are a few more effects.

iWeb is a strange beast, but probably because it's so unfamiliar. I'm a web designer by trade, so it saves me having to do more work on my own family site. Using iWeb alone and dragging/dropping stuff into it is easy enough, but I found it came into it's own when using one of the other iLife apps, and pressing the 'Send to iWeb' button, then it just selects my template and away I go, very quick.

I have a couple of issues with uploading the site to, a couple of errors, then telling me I had no space. I exited the App then started again and it seemed to be fine.

I can understand the comments about multiple sites etc, but this product really is aimed at the lowest level user, who doesn't give a stuff about how it works, and just wants an easy way to stick stuff on the web.

All in all, a good upgrade, there appear to be a few bugs though, I hope they get fixed up soon.

A question for those of you with ilife 06--when you import images from your hard drive, if they have IPTC embedded keywords (like if you added keywords from iview media pro, aperture or photoshop) and you import the image into iphoto 6, does it add those keywords to the image?

Thanks
Jason

Just received my copy from Fedex this morning. Don't know if this has been mentioned before but it comes with the trial version of iWork '06.

Edit: I also thought all new software with universal binaries was supposed to show the logo on the box. iLife '06 doesn't.

I thought it was $ 79...$99 for a family pack.
BTW, reading the license agreement on the family pack has one exclusion that I don't agree with. It says the family pack must be used on computers that reside in the same physical house. Personally, that is wacked.

My daughter has a G4 iMac. I would like to get her the upgrade to iLife 06, but she lives in a different household (lives with her mother).

I thought the idea of a family pack was for different members of your immediate family, regardless of location... like say a child you send off to college. I mean, I know this isn't a license for your freiends and neighbors.

I'll most likely get her her own copy.... but not without some complaining.

just finished installing both iWork and iLife. iLife is much more iTunes 6 styley, brushed metal has gone for good in the iApps now. iphoto is really great, a bit like aperture im sure.....

havent tried iWeb, but iMovie is much less cluttered as is iDVD. iPhoto opens in one Dock bounce. garageband opens fullscreen for me now, it didnt used to.....but it loads faster.

all in all, this upgrads ahs done nothing but improve and accelerate my system. iWork is great too, havent played with that much yet though.

this new effect (instead of brushed metal ) for OSX is growing on me....can we expect to see Safari gain this in an update, or will that have to wait until leopard?

A child who goes off to college, at least in the UK, is generally still classed as having the parental home as their main location. They're entitled to register to vote in either student or parental home addresses etc.

So, I'd guess that would count as the same 'household'. Equally, in your scenario, regardless of who has custody, since your daughter is a dependent, I think the spirit of the law would apply!

Actually, the SLA Addendum states:

By "household" we mean a person or persons sharing the same housing unit such as a home, apartment, mobile home or condominium. This license does not extend to students who reside at a separate on-campus location or to business or commercial users.

So, although not within the letter of the law, I don't think Apple will come calling...

I'm looking for more reports on iLife '06 speed on older G4s like 1Ghz and below...how is iPhoto's speed? Are the iMovie themes usable on slower G4s?

Thanks.

Thanks to you and applespider for your comments.

I didn't think Apple would be banging at my door, but from a monetary view, it seems Apple added those specifics to the SLA for such cases as a college student and to discourage calling your best friend "brother"

Ordered mine Wednesday morning - received today. Excellent show Apple!

Curious - what language do the paragraphs in iWeb appear for everyone? Mine appear in something resembling Latin

Here's what the wiki says for lorem ipsum. It's a placeholder commonly used in graphic design to show text - avoids clients trying to read actual text until the general concept is signed off. And is obviously not 'real' so shouldn't go to print accidentally.

Sorry if I missed this (I read this thread, but it's pretty long), but...

I know you can save an iWeb site to a folder and then manually upload it to another location. However, for some of the features (the photo gallery at the least) it calls a script on www.mac.com (I checked the code of a photo gallery that a user posted here).

Will those scripts accept calls from outside the .Mac realm? Will the copy saved to a folder have those scripts and call them 'internally'?

Anyone have iLife 06 want to post something from iWeb onto a non .Mac host?

Thanks! :)

Mine was supposed to be delivered today so I stayed home b/c it requires a signature. I even called to make sure it was supposed to be delivered today. Sure enough, FedEx failed again. I seriously think there is no quality control with FedEx. Almost anytime I have sent or received a package with FedEx something has gone wrong. Sorry to rant, but since this is a "I got iLife 06!" topic thread.....thought I'd chime in that I did not get iLife '06 b/c of FedEx.

Can't wait though :)
