Haven't gotten any info back on extracting from them, but it sounds like it'd probably work. Just probably be a bit frustrating cuz most features arn't implemented. Just enough to test stuff out.

I'm running an iPhone 2G OS 3.0 unlocked & jailbroken on T-Mobile...

I'm good at directions, can someone walk me thru downgrading the OS and putting the prototype software on my iPhone? Would it be possible to keep the unlock and run the proto software for awhile?

Let me know what you think. From the outside, it looked just like a normal phone except no etching on the back. Just noticed I forgot to ask for a picture of one with the white buttons.

It got a SwitchBoard.app  With entire suite of Prototype Fruity Goodness tools! ;)
The dump posted earlier contains only SkankPhone.app (I knew that something was missing in this dump :p ).

The firmware that you got on your device seems to be a diagnostic one that is sended to service centers - remember that 3G with BurnIn on hackintosh forum? Owner got the 3G back from service with diagnostic IPSW restored on it.

I cannot explain why you have a back without an etching... Maybe it was used by a Apple developer?

Contact someone from iPhone Dev Team, they will surely help you with dumping the firmware from your iPhone.

I tried to PM you but it seems you're not allowing PMs.
Anyhow, I'd be interested in learning how to do the dump.

I don't have access to them at the moment, but given instructions, I can try to figure a time to get to them and do it.

Sorry, I fail and cannot seem to find the option to turn on PM. I enabled getting email from other users though.

I tried contacting the dev team via IRC but never got an answer.

My guess is that there was some testing for a revision of iphone boards, so they spun a set of prototypes.

Anyhow, if Skankphwn or anybody else have ideas how to dump the data from it, feel free to post here or PM me.

I spoke with the guy and although he's inclined to keep them as a collector's item, he'd entertain offers. I tried offering my 3G, but he said he'd at least want a factory unlocked 3GS. Too much for me. :p On the upside, he'll still cool letting me do any dumping. (if I knew how)

iPhone Prototype

I have a repair company of iPhone in France yesterday I found in my stock
A very strange motherboard and comm board , different than all other motherboard I have seen before, This motherboard come from an iPhone EDGE with the year 2006 on it, all other one are from 2007.
And it's trully a prototype, I don't know if it's the one with the plastic screen.
On the motherboard there are some number of Apple parts but , nothing for the Serial / Number.

The motherboard is broken I think, But I'm not sure.
I will try to repair it tommorow but I have already try to change the battery i and the phone doen't work with the new battery , only the original one work but only 3.3volts and I can't charge.

When the phone work one time for 40 times , There are a very strange screen
You can use the volume button to navigate and the home button to select.

If you want some picture I can send it.

Sorry, didn't wanna read thew whole thread, so not much valuable input here...

But HOLY COW!!! Those pics are AWESOME!! It's so cool seeing these amazing developed systems in such a rudimentary form! ...It had to start SOMEWHERE, right?? ha ha...

It would also be hilarious if someone made an iPhone theme based on these beta/alpha versions of the OS--or whatever the firmware is!! ha ha

Also, my roommate had a protector covering on his iPod Touch [3G?] that had the EXACT same-looking texture as the plastic screen iPhone, and it feels freaking AWESOME. So smooth and silky, where as with the glass they use, sure...more clean & glossy and futuristic-y I guess, but you can smear and smudge...if you get a new model iPhone in the future, one option to look at for a screen protector is a plastic one with that silky smooth texture I'm talking about...[/pointless rant that wasted your valuable time]

Wow, those are interesting!

Can you take a close up picture of both sides of both boards?

A nice digital camera, using macro settings and no flash would help.

What kind of stuff does it say in the menus?

For the pictures I will see that later

For the Menu:

Sep 7 2006 16.06.44 <= it's always the same time I think it's the birth of this iPhone.

NOR CHKSUM 3846

Firewire Charge
USBSuspend
USBShutDown
USBCharge 100
USBCharge 500
RD_NAND_ID
Sdram_Quickscan
Flash_Chksum
ASD for BATT (I Think Apple Service Diag)
BB_Command
BB_BATT

That's All

I wonder if there is any operating system installed in it... Try connecting it to computer via USB cable, and selecting the USBCharge 100 option to charge it. Also, try turning it on with different button combinations.

EDIT:

That screen is so ugly because, as its name suggests, it's stored in NOR. They don't have much space in there. 1 MB, to be exact. I find it funny that HTC diagnostic programs from ~2005 phones are looking similiar to this. :p

The date that you are pointing out is probably the build date of NOR CHKSUM. Hardware may be older.

@pj225 Have you got a build of SwitchBoard.app?

@FaDaWay Your device is definitely an engineering prototype. You've probably got an FPGA unit, and what you're seeing is a low level diagnostics tool (or as it seems).

So what's happened by now? Any progress? Which reminds me. Would SkankPhone work on an iPod touch 1G do you think?
