I Just Received my Dbrand Skins for 16" MacBook Pro

All,

I just received my Dbrand skins for my 16" MacBook Pro and as usual, they are works of art. Thanks to this forum, I have ordered Dbrand skins for my past four MacBook Pro computers, and I am seriously impressed with the quality of their product. Every cut is absolutely perfect with respect to position and quality. For example, the screw holes on the back cover line up absolutely perfectly if you install it correctly. I use all of their skins: Top case, bottom case, palm rest, and trackpad (my choice is carbon fibre orange), and everything is always perfect. I have absolutely no association with Dbrand, but I'll tell you, it would be difficult to convince me that there is a better product out there. Dbrand is absolute perfection from my experience, and I am a perfectionist.

By the way, I still put a clear case over the Dbrand skins, well... because there is something wrong with me? LOL.

My only worry with dbrand is the meticulous installation process seems just ... too meticulous for me to handle I worry I will install it wrong and it will look bad. Also what happens later if u need to remove it? Will it leave any visual residue?

I removed one right before I sold it. It had been on about nine months. Absolutely no residue whatsoever.

By the way, if you follow theYouTube video put out by Dbrand, it is difficult to screw up. The most important part is the initial edge placement. Once that is perfect, everything lines up perfectly.

I've had DBrands, iCarbon, SkinIt and a couple others and for the most part they are all quality products. I had a blue top skin still laying around so I used the blue apple on my 2019. My 2018 has the white apple from another skin. Installation is not hard, just takes a steady hand and some patience. I've always been a fan of the carbon fiber look.

I use the matt finish - it is hard to even tell these are on.

Also removed one before selling the 2019 MBP - no residue (and no scratches at all because of the skin)

Same here. They are miles above what dBrand puts out. dBrand skins actually make the device more slippery in my opinion. BestSkinsEver while not for the faint of heart while applying are the absolute best there is for using a skin. I also use the matte and use them on my phone and iPad and am waiting on the 16" release as well.

What dock are you resting the 16 on?

If you are asking me it is the IOGear dock from Best Buy. It doesn't give the MacBook Pro a full 100W as it's only rated at 85W but for browsing the web and connecting my external display at home works fine. I used it with my 2018 and didn't see any reason to upgrade yet. At work I use the Dell WD19TB, it too isn't a full 100W with only 90W to non-Dell systems. But I also use a Dell XPS 9570 at work so being functional with both is a big benefit. When a few more options come out with 100W of power delivery I may decide to upgrade but for now they work fine.

I got mine yesterday. My 15 had dbrand on it for 3 years and it held up perfectly.

I've used dbrand's vinyl skins in the past too, and I enjoyed my time with them. They're nice, though I personally don't think there would be much of a difference between them and another quality vinyl skin maker.

For example, the screw holes on the back cover line up absolutely perfectly if you install it correctly.

Like I said, I'm a fan of the product overall, but I've yet to understand the point of the screw holes on the skins. They're still attached on the sides, out past the removable lower lid of the machine. The amount of force it takes to remove the back panelling on these MacBook Pros is so great that there really is no room to also fight past the grip of the skin on the edges. Point being, the skin's coming off if you need any repair done. Holes may as well be there for aesthetics.

By the way, if you follow the YouTube video put out by Dbrand, it is difficult to screw up.

This might be true for the MacBooks (and laptops in general), but it's absolutely NOT true for any of their other skins. She is LYING when she says "Relax, this is going to be easy!"

I had no issue with this on my machine when I removed my dbrand skin. I did feel like it required way too much force, but the MacBook Pro's frame is sturdy, and it can easily handle that. So all in all, I don't think you'll have anything to worry about.

If anyone's interested, I use a real leather skin now to match my iPhone's case.

I used the i-blason case and the bottom fit well, but the top was tight. I cut some excess flashing off the top corners (top of the screen) and it fit nicely.

This said, on Amazon at least, i-blason removed the case for sale because virtually every single review complained about the top case fit. My guess is that they are redesigning it slightly.

One thing is for sure, I have used Speck cases in the past, but the i-blason is both higher quality and less expensive. I have used Speck cases since roughly 2007, but no more.
