What happens tomorrow? Does it go back to 365? Asking for a friend.
364 actually.

This has been on the desktop of my second screen, covering over all kinds of irrelevant tosh like todo lists, calendar, activity monitor etc., since I downloaded it. It has been a wonderful additional attraction and made sitting at this 'puter joyful!

As the time has come again :) , I’m confirming that the app (1.0.7) works in Sonoma 14.1 (23B74).

A suggestion – option to remove the app from the Dock.
I did it this way:
Code:
defaults write /Applications/Christmas\ Tree.app/Contents/Info.plist LSUIElement true
codesign --remove-signature /Applications/Christmas\ Tree.app
open -a /Applications/Christmas\ Tree.app

I missed this last year, but have downloaded this now.

Thank you Milo for making this and giving us some Christmas cheer.

Two things, reading the old posts, I think the suggestion from bogdanw (post 25) was excellent, do you think you can do that? It would look great.

Also, I am running it on a Mac mini M2 Pro, but the lights don't seem to animate. The star flashes.

UPDATE - Lights flash since power cycling the Mac.

would like an update to the app. Ornaments for the tree, maybe a user can select a picture that automatically scales down to size.

Hello everyone! It's lovely to see you all so excited about the Christmas Tree 🎄

I've just released an update which should be available now. If it doesn't auto-update, you can download it again from here https://xmastreeapp.com/

This year, I hired an Illustrator to make a much lovelier tree, along with some ornaments.

I'll try and add more settings soon, so you can control ornaments, candycanes etc.

Let me know what you think, and keep the feedback coming! :)

Love it love it love it...
Is there a way to hide the icon in the dock, thanks?

Love this! It really takes me back to the old shareware days of the early Mac communities, which were just full of fun little projects like this that people would do just for the love of doing it.

My only feedback would be to add a close button to the little Settings window. Unless I'm missing something, it seems the only way to close it is to either right-click the tree and pick "Settings" again, or choose "Settings..." from the menu bar. Both work fine, but I think most people are used to seeing a Save button or some other button to close a settings dialog.

Thanks for the feedback! I've released 1.2.0 which adds the ability to hide the dock icon, as well as a close icon in settings, and an easier to find drag handle for resizing the tree.

I'm working on the next release now, which will include candy canes and ginger bread men.

Ho ho ho!

I was thinking that instead of the badge with days - the days left could be written on a package under the tree or on the tree itself in a glowy fashion. and some tinsel would be nice too.

I love this app, but have to say that I too preferred the natural tree rather than the cartoonified one we have now. Perhaps a little tweak in the preferences menu could bring it back?? Somehow?? Please??

So I downloaded the previous edition (1.0.7) as shown above. Used it successfully for a day (with Sonoma 14.1.2) then when I came to it the next day somehow it had reverted to the latest cartoon edition. Having removed icon from dock there's now no way that I can quit it - or access preferences or anything. Clicking of the tree allows me to move/resize it - but there's no menu on the menubar. Can't delete or replace the app 'cos it's open. It doesn't appear in the Force Quit list either. Ohh Dear!!

So I've removed it from start-up items and re-started. Took an age, but that might be something else. Reverting to the latest version, 1.2.0 and will stick to that. Still so happy that @Mithi has made this. No criticism implied at all about his effort.

As far as I know, Christmas Tree 1.0.7 doesn’t have an auto-update function and I can’t explain what happened.
You can always close an app in Activity Monitor.
“Quit an app or process in Activity Monitor on Mac” https://support.apple.com/guide/activity-monitor/actmntr1002/

Friendly reminder :) Christmas Tree versions 1.0.7 and 1.2.0 work Sequoia.

I was wrong about the auto-update function. I don’t see it in Monterey, but it appears in Sonoma and Sequoia. To turn off auto-update:

Code:
defaults write com.mthi.ChristmasTree SUAutomaticallyUpdate 0
