Friendly reminder :) Christmas Tree versions 1.0.7 and 1.2.0 work Sequoia.

I was wrong about the auto-update function. I don’t see it in Monterey, but it appears in Sonoma and Sequoia. To turn off auto-update:

Code:
defaults write com.mthi.ChristmasTree SUAutomaticallyUpdate 0
Already gave 1.0.7 a quick try on my M2 Pro Mini. Lovely tree, I hope both versions get some tweaks.

Brilliant! I'm so looking forward to launching this on Dec 1st! I’ve also Xd, Threaded, and BlueSkied a link to the download!!

Great job!

This reminds me of the old Mac screensaver app LotsaSnow that would rain snowflakes down over your screen. It was released in 2006 and I don't think it works with modern hardware sadly. You can see it in action here. Incredibly every snowflake is unique.

Every December I'd install it on all the Macs in the department store I worked at to give them a nice festive feel :)

The latest version (v1.6) is still available on the developer’s website and it works on Monterey/Intel (right-click & Open with System Preferences) https://wakaba.c3.cx/s/lotsablankers/lotsasnow
Direct link https://wakaba.c3.cx/releases/LotsaBlankers/LotsaSnow1.6.zip
The source code should be here https://web.archive.org/web/20200622042938/https://bitbucket.org/WAHa_06x36/lotsablankers/downloads/

Thanks a lot! :)

Edit: iSnow sure uses a lot of resources. Windowserver spikes to 40+% and iSnow alone uses about 40% CPU by itself, on my M3 MBA. Not really worth it unfortunately.

Wow! That works spectacularly bad with Stage Manager
As Snow was originally designed and was running on Apple computers from 40 years ago, I guess your experiences with the app might tell something about the quality of current Apple hardware and software :)

“In 1984 (remember Lisa?) the first Macintosh program I wrote was a computer Christmas card which showed a picture of a snowman and falling snow. Later a Father Xmas in his sleigh was added. I converted this to an undying desk accessory in 1988 (remember MultiFinder?). But, little boys grow up, and when they are forced to a workstation with X-windows they want their thingies there too. So Xsnow was born in December 1993. The X-windows version has been around for a few years now, a new Macintosh version occurred in 1996, now followed by the Windows version. (Some operating systems always come last.)” https://janswaal.home.xs4all.nl/MacSnow/
