Yes I know, deal with it or move on, but I hate it. I hold the iPad in landscape mode 99% of the time. Any time I’m needed to log into something or even just unlock my iPad I see the “camera covered” and I have to lift my hand up and then let it unlock or log in for me. I know, first world problems, but this is a first world problems forum so I’m making mine known. I really hate this and wish there was another camera somewhere that would fix this problem for me (even though I know that’s not really feasible).
Hate is such a strong word. (but then again, I also don't understand people who refuse to use it in portrait) You should use both orientations, folks!Ive officially hated landscape mode of the iPad for some years now.
Face Time makes more sense in portrait mode. Also surfing the web makes much more sense in portrait, the same goes for reading magazins and taking notes wth the Apple Pencil. Landscape, for example, is great for multitasking, video and writing longer texts with the keyboard.I and many others that I know use the iPad in landscape mode 95% of the time. Why didn’t the put the camera to the horizontal bezel? That would be also much better for FaceTime as you are not off center all the time....

Not really, but if you think so...Surfing the web makes only sense in portrait mode if you use the mobile version of the browser. Almost all standard websites are composed for horizontal viewing. The portrait mode might be useful for the iPhones and maybe the iPad mini, but especially the 12.9 iPP screams for horizontal usage (apart from reading magazines or PDFs...).

That, of course, would be the best solution. Wonder if this would be possible in the (near) future?Definitely first world problems. What should Apple have done? Move the FaceID camera/notch in the center of the iPad screen? LOL
The alternative with the home button required you to move your hand and hit the home button every time. Hopefully you'll adjust.
You can use FaceTime in portrait mode, which make sense because it is what most people holding an iPhone on the other end of the conversation tend to do.I and many others that I know use the iPad in landscape mode 95% of the time. You know one thing I’ve noticed I like about Face ID. I’ve been freed from the constraints of orientation.
I used to pick my old iPad up and I’d immediately check that the home button was either on the right hand side, or at the bottom. Just so it was easier to use Touch ID.
The new iPad, with Face ID has eliminated that completely for me. It’s the first time I’ve ever been able to pick up an iPad and just use it, without checking the orientation.
Obviously that’s not going to be the same for everyone, just sharing
But then the camera is off center for FaceTime from every orientation.Apple could have put Face ID in the corner. That way you aliminate the problem
