I have never had any interest in the Apple watch or smart watches in general. Played with them in the stores, but to me they're just mini smart phones on your wrist.

The Apple pen sounds interesting. I assume it's still 3 or 4 years away? Hopefully it opens up the iphone to a whole range of new capabilities.

You do realise that for every youtube video of a person going from the Note 8 to the iphone X, there's just as many going vice versa? It's ratio of 1 : 1.

The person didn't even stick with the X, they went back to the Note8 after testing the X.

Even Google doesn't know what to do with them. The Android Wear market is stagnant at the moment. What's comedic is that the best competitor for Apple Watch is the Galaxy Gear running Tizen. Android Wear is nowhere to be seen. I don't understand why. On Apple Watch there are a limited number of Watch faces while on Android Wear there are thousands. Google Assistamt is better than Siri. Google Maps is better than Apple Maps. Not sure why Google doesn't seem interested in this area.

It will be 3 years away. Next year Apple will launch the X Plus which won't come with much upgrades over the existing X. Just some ram upgrades, a better display and a better camera and better FaceID and dual sim support. Then in 2019 there will be an upgrade to ProMotion and by 2020 I expect a real Note competitor.

I am just not excited like I used to be in the past though. Reading between the lines, Apple is pushing towards a $2000 iPhone because they can and want to be a premium manufacturer for the elite. That iPhone will cost a crazy amount of money. What's worse is that Samsung will follow Apple because when they charge slightly below Apple's asking price no one bats an eye but on their own they can't charge ridiculous amounts and get away with it. Imagine if the Note were the only smartphone costing $950. Sales would be abysmal. Now people compare it with the X and don't find it overpriced. If Apple charges $1300 for the 64GB iPhone X Plus which I know they will, Samsung will charge around 1200 for the next Note.

Google unfortunately can't seem to make a good phone without a glaring flaw. So it's just a duopoly going on at the top end of the smartphone market. HTC and LG seem down in the dumps ATM.

Sony is stuck doing their own thing bringing out that big bezelled XZ Premium in 2017. Even on Android I am amazed it's so difficult to find a good flagship which is not Samsung

Just seeing someone else talk about Apple's slow go approach makes me feel empty in the stomach about iphones, because that's been my conclusion since the iphone X keynote. I'd always known it but I thought Apple would make an exception and go all out for the 10 year anniversary phone.

At this point I will be getting the Note 9 next year. It can only be better than what the Note 8 will be now. And I'm tipping it will be alot more 'interesting' than the iphone X Plus. In fact, just based on recent trends, the 2020 Note will be far more interesting than the 2020 iphone complete with stylus.

I'm tipping that the iphone stylus won't be that feature packed, but what it will do it will do very well.
[doublepost=1511210266][/doublepost]^^^

My prediction about the iphone stylus:

Doodling/drawing in the notes app
Writing in the notes app
Possibly placing the cursor in between two letters in a word if you need to make a correction.
Swiping the screen
3d touch features

Went to a Samsung store yesterday. Tested the Samsung Note 8 for over 2 hours and was grilling the sales people there about what it can do and showing me how to do things, in the process.

Two words: Mind Blown.

This device is so feature packed it's not even funny. I had a Note 3 for 6 weeks, 4 years ago, and sold it to a friend because of too many issues. None of these issues were evident in the Note 8. This device is absolutely mint. It is the closest smartphone you will find to a personal computer and it fits right in your pocket.

Looks and feels very premium, unlike my old Note 3 which came with a removable plastic back.
Easy to hold in one hand.
The camera is ridiculously good.
My favourite feature, the screen, a Samsung employee showed me a video in landscape, holy crap it looked 3D, as if you were there seeing it for real, cinematic effect he called it.
The multitasking, unreal.
The calculator has a built in currency converter.
The customisation, it is insane what you can do when compared to ios.
The floating windows.
The S-Pen, you can literally use it as a mouse.
The local filing system, the Samsung guy used the pen to create an MS spreadsheet and saved it direct to his Note, can do the same with MSW and MSPP.
The camera has a floating button for goodness sakes lol, where you can position the camera button anywhere you want on the screen, for more convenience.
And so much, much, much more.
It was buttery smooth, and like an iphone, it just worked.

Then I went up the escalator to the Apple store to try out the iPhone 8 Plus. After a minute I was like blah. Then I tried the 10.5 inch iPad Pro, after 2 minutes I was like blah. I used the Apple Pencil to draw and that was cool, but I was doing the same thing on the Note 8. Sure the ipad has a bigger screen but I'm not into drawing so the ipad didn't blow any wind up my skirt.

I was with my cousin who has also been an iphone user for 8 years, and she said "I am damaged now". In other words, after playing with the Note 8, she can't look at another iphone.

For those of you who like me have been iphone users for the longest time and are not excited by the X or the 8, or if you are intrigued by the Note 8, do yourself a favour and test it out in the store.

As for me, after everything I said above, I have decided not to get the Note 8. But I'm not getting the X or iPhone 8 either. Instead, I am going to hold onto my iphone 6 Plus until next year, and then I'm getting the Note 9. The 2 things that scared me away from the Note 8 in the end were the touch ID button being at the back and only 64 gigs of local storage. It does have expandable storage but you cannot store apps on an SD card. With a screen like that and with 6 gigs of ram, I fully intend to take advantage of app intensive games and apps, but they take up a lot of room. So I prefer more local storage.

The guy in the store said Samsung is working on a bendable/flexible screen for the Note 9. I don't know how that will work, especially with the glass back, but knowing how quickly Samsung moves, I anticipate that the Note 9 will come with touch ID under the display and more local storage. And if it turns out that neither happens, the Note 9 will still be significantly better than the Note 8 anyway so I intend to go with it.

The only thing that will stop me getting the Note 9 is if the 2018 iphone iteration also comes with features that blow me away. But I'm not holding my breath. I expect the 2018 X iteration will come in a Plus model which will be the killer feature for 2018 (wow), a better chip and camera, more anamojis, and a couple of other features which will be totally useless (ala 3D touch) in the whole scheme of things. Thanks but no thanks.

Bring on the Note 9.

Go buy it!!!! When you get a virus on it don’t whine to me! I checked them out pretty much their identical in every way to any other smart phone... but in android OS you have so many places where you can make a mistake and lose something whereas in iOS you only have one place where you can remove something... makes more sense more intuitive more logical.

Not sure what you're on about but theSamsung devices get more water tight every year. The differences are approaching miniscuity. No iphoneis wholeproof.

People mined Bitcoin with their idle GPU time when they weren't playing games back when it was 8 cents per but now it's over $17K in just 7 short years. What's so stupid about that?

How is that any different than stocks? Also not backed up by the FDIC.

Stocks are regulated instruments of companies regulated by laws. Bitcoin is more like tree bark.
Nice. I bought some sweet Xmas gifts thanks to the tree bark.

Luckily I put money into Bitcoin that I don't mind losing if it ever falls. Whatever is left over after expenses, savings and investments I put into Bitcoin, so far it's been great.

And if that’s you’re thing go for it. My wife has a pile of it, suggested she get out and take the profits and run.

The Winklevos twins are the first bitcoin billionaires....I watched a marketwatch tv segment at work on bitcoins and how it will explode if it becomes a widespread currency exchange.

My coworker got into Bitcoin earlier this year at $3,000 each, what is it now, like $17,000 ? Too late for me to jump in at that crazy price.

I recall hearing about Bitcoin years ago, with nerd gamers mining their own using their gaming PC ? It was like $200 each back then.

I still don't understand the whole mining the coin with a computer ? And what's backing the Bitcoin ? And who's the official bank and head person behind it ? Sounds like a bubble that will crash eventually. But if you got in at the low price, and sell at the high price before it crashes you can make major $$

It seems all the craze now. I don't understand it too well just yet but I am wanting to make some money. I may jump into it eventually....

If you're about to jump into it now you got to be mr. Moneybags, one Bitcoin is close to $20,000 each that's an extremely super high risk investment it could go up to $50,000 maybe or it could go down to $1000. So it seemed a little easier pill to swallow when they were about a grand or $2,000 only each

It's still good to jump into it now. Don't judge by the whole Bitcoin itself. Buying into fractions of a Bitcoin will still garner profit.

To echo @LIVEFRMNYC -- You don't have to purchase an entire Bitcoin/Ethereum/Litecoin. You can purchase just part of one (imagine a US dollar -- it can be broken into cents). Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Litecoin are the big three. I'd throw some money that you can afford to lose (high risk, high reward after all) into the three of those and see where they go. e.g. - I invested a little (read: not very much unfortunately) in Bitcoin and Ethereum a few months ago, let it sit, and now I've more than doubled my investment. Show me somewhere else where I can get those returns!

Also I'd advise looking into some of the smaller currencies. The ones that are $10 per coin -- or even less -- have massive upside potential IMO. Anyone here investing in Ripple?
