This is why I refuse to let go of my 8 Plus...bought one in Oct 2017, it just had a cellular modem failure...so I replaced it this month with a refurb 256GB from Apple. Screw Face ID.
Sounds like your phone is the same age as mine..have you had to replace the battery yet.?..and what is the Battery Health % on your phone ?..mine is currently 84% and I posted a thread the other day about it. Appreciate your thoughts on your battery .

Yes, I replaced not too long ago but it’s at 94 already. I would have upgraded but I have the 256k so I kinda liked the memory for pictures and stuff but the camera glitches all the time. I can’t use it when I need it. I thought it was because I had too many pictures but when I restored my phone sans pics it still did it.

Just out of curiosity would you go for the SE 2 or prefer a larger screen on next phone purchase.?

Not sure. I’d have to see it in person. I like the camera on the pro so who knows. I’m going to hang on to this phone as long as I can so hopefully the camera issue is just a software issue.

This ^^^^^^^

Rather than this ^^ they stick around a design that’s nearly a decade old. Wouldn’t that be lack of innovation or they are tooo lazy.

I’d say they are responding to what the market has demanded and produced an iPhone that is affordable and current. To do that they need to put R&D into the aspects that matter rather than those that don’t. I think users would rather an up to date camera and improved performance (just as an example) rather than aesthetics being put before them and absorbing too much of the cost. The innovation is in the technology, not making it look pretty.

Yes..especially in the current economic time, people are re assessing cost and expenses. Companies have moved accordingly to meet market. But honestly it did to me at least bring a shudder when I see phones selling for close to $2000 AUD ( USD $1370 ) .

Yes.....or next time you are near a Apple Store you could get it looked at. These phones are not cheap nowadays.!

I'll echo the perfect size compliments. Compared to my previous Pixel 4XL / S10+ devices the SE2 is very easy to carry while keeping active. SE2 stays comfortable in my pocket while running, the bigger devices had to be strapped into an arm band that made them difficult to access on the go.

Well if they were to make a "new" design there is no way they can keep it at the $400 price point. Obviously, it's working as the SE is probably one of the hottest selling iPhones right now... if you want "innovation" wait until the September launches. There are multiple iPhones out right now that fits every users need. Sometimes "innovation" isn't what the average consumer is looking for.

Exactly. We don’t need innovation...we need compromise

I switched from 7 to 11 well before the new SE was released, but will happily change my current 11 to the forthcoming 5.4” iPhone 12 once it is out. I enjoy the current iPhone 11 tech (full-screen, great cameras and amazing battery life), but as I am often on the move would also like to have something smaller/lighter. Trying an OLED screen for the first time will also be an extra bonus.

Put a thin bezel display into iPhone SE body that’s what would have been improvement over the aging model. Maybe they can’t figure out how to do that. (Lack of innovation) Or again they’re too lazy. Or profit margins are low on SE models so they don’t care.

I like them both, but ultimately the 11 wins. Face ID, A Larger Screen, and the Camera seal the deal for me. However, If I had to go with the SE it would not be a problem. Speed and performance are identical. It's still a really great phone.

Call it what you will. I think the SE is doing well as it offers what it needs to. It’ll be a business phone due to price point and the proven form factor will be popular with those wanting a smaller handset with upgraded internals. It’s all it needed to be for it’s market I would say.

I received an iPhone SE as my new work phone a month ago and since then I find myself reaching for it more than my 11 pro max for general tasks. Touch ID is a million times more accurate than Face ID and the simple screen with the new CPU is incredibly fluid this is the first iPhone I have used with zero lag launching and switching applications. The camera and battery life leave a little room for improvement but I am debating selling the pro and going for an SE for my personnel phone now.

Touch ID is not even on the same playing field as Face ID. My phone opens 100% of the time with Face ID. It‘s so fast I forget it is there. The iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro are absolutely better phones than the SE. If you like the SE more, that’s a personal choice, and keep it, but don’t try to convince yourself it’s a better phone and that Touch ID is better than Face ID. Neither are true.

The main component of preferring something is the subjective opinion your choice is better than other options isn’t it?

The days of bragging rights over having the industry best model are behind us now. People buy the best package for them and more often than not it’s not the most expensive and tech filled product on the market. What’s wrong with being convinced you’ve got a better phone than the others on offer? That’s customer satisfaction, pure and simple.

Your statement about FaceID being a better technology than TouchID is an interesting one. When using it simply as a feature to open a device or authorising a payment they effectively do the same thing. Both have pros and cons and aspects better than each other. You can’t definitively claim one is completely better than the other.

I love my 11 Pro, and thought I’d get used to the weight of it but I can’t. My X was so enjoyable to use cause it was so lightweight. I normally switch phones every 2 years, but if the 5.4” in iPhone is lighter, I may sell my 11 pro and switch to that.

You could always just pick it up.....surely that’s not such a hardship.

Not interested. I guess you missed the other part of my post where I said unlock speed is important to me when I remove it from my pocket. Not going to pick it up and stick it in my face in the middle of a meeting either.

People's gripes are incredibly weird.

Yeah when others' personal preferences don't align with your own...very weird thought process indeed. I think that's called immaturity.

I sold my 11 after getting the SE2. I absolutely love having a smaller phone. That being said, I’m struggling typing on it. I have pretty darn small hands and I cannot type accurately on it at all. I use talk to text when I can, but sometimes I just can’t do that, and then sometimes it comes out so messed up it’s ridiculous.

I bought the SE2 with the intention of just using it til new phones came out then passing it to my granddaughter (or keeping it and buying her another if nothing really impressed me). As much as I’m loving the size/compactness of it (gosh it’s awesome), and also touch ID, I do think I’ll wind up going back to something a bit bigger.

Just wait I’m sure it’s coming.

A 5.5 inch lcd iPhone is heavily rumoured but i doubt it will be called SE plus. It’s supposed to have Touch ID in the power button, and possibly a notch for front camera to accommodate an all screen display, so in essence this would be ‘new‘ 5.5“ phone from Apple.

Had an iPhone X for a week, annoyed that I couldn't lay it on my desk and unlock it easily. Pros and cons to both. I'd rather have my device unlocked before it's at my face than having to wait on Face ID and then swipe up.

You don’t have to wait to swipe up. I think this is where some people who don’t like Face ID go wrong. They think they have to look, wait to unlock, then swipe up. No. I pull my phone out of my pocket and swipe up. That’s it. If I’m the one using it, it just goes right to the home screen. There’s no waiting to unlock. In fact, Face ID has made it feel as if there is no lock. It’s the most seamless security system I’ve used and when I use an iPhone or iPad with Touch ID, it always feels like I’m encountering hurdles because I deliberately have to put my finger on a button to unlock.

You seem to miss the point that I can have it unlocked on the home screen before it even reaches my face. I understand how Face ID works and it doesn’t change my mind. Myself nor anyone else with this preference aren’t “going wrong”. Get off your high horses, it’s called personal preference.

This is what you said: “having to wait on Face ID and then swipe up”.

This is conclusively wrong regardless of opinion. You do not have to wait on Face ID before swiping up.

You’re entitled to your preference but you’re not entitled to making up limitations that don’t exist.

Is there much difference between putting your finger on a home button compared to swiping up a screen? You are performing a motion with your finger whichever method you use.
