faceID is a benefit to some. I cycle daily and when the temps dip I wear long fingered cycling gloves that have touchscreen pads in the fingers. These pads are there so you can use touchscreen cycling computers and they work great with phones as well.

When wearing my cycling gloves I always had to remove one to unlock the phone with touchID. With faceID there is no need to do so.

Also, touchID fails at about the same rate as faceID for me. I don't notice either being more accurate than the other and touchID has issues if your finger is damp.
It’s all about preference but I like Touch ID alot better. It’s going to be very hard for me to not switch to the note 9 when it comes out. Since it will have the FPS sensor under the screen. I’ll probably find myself at AT&T buying one and selling my X.

The tough part is that I can’t find myself to use Android after having everything work together with my other Apple products. Answering a call from the Mac and handing it off when you’re walking out the door for example.

Yeah continuity and handoff are huge for me. When I use Android you can sorta - kinda get similar experience using something like Pushbullet but it's not really equal...

Your are correct and thank you for catching my error. I didn’t know this based on the actual phone size to display screen ratio.

Screen size on X is 5.8 and 8+ is 5.5 , and X smaller to hold too.
To be fair to you, if video watching is what you're doing, then in almost all cases, the video will be bigger on the plus models than the X.

Yes I think you totally wasted your money going from the 7 Plus to the 8 Plus.

I have played with many many 10s, and decided that it just wasn't for me, so I decided to take the same money and bought the 256GB 8 Plus for $969 + Taxes. People have called me crazy, but I have had the phone since January, and I am still enjoying every minute of it. The A11 chip does feel much faster, and I am liking that Portrait Lighting features that it has.

Yes it does feel like the old 7+ I used to have, but I do use the new wireless charging feature, and bought a few Qi cheap charging pads for the whole house. I also found a Honeycomb branded wireless battery power bank from Walmart for only $39.

Was I crazy for spending the same amount I would have on a 10 on my 8 Plus? I figured I will just get whatever comes after the X when my AT&T Next upgrade would allow it.
You are crazy. Whether or not your condition has anything to do with your iPhone 8+ purchase, I don't know.

If you are happy with the phone, that is all that matters.

Has That been confirmed that the Note 9 will have the fingerprint sensor embedded under the display?

It's your money. Everybody has their things they like to spend theirs on. Yes, I think spending $1,000 on any smartphone is a massive waste of money but all that matters is your opinion. If it were me, I'd buy something less than half the price, or just keep using what I already had, and save/invest the rest. That's why I'm still using a 4.5 year old phone. Anytime I think "ok, I'll finally buy a new phone this generation", the next thing I think is "my phone still works so I'll instead do something better with that money".

I wouldn't have bought an 8+ if I had a 7+ - however, the 8+ is an excellent phone, and wireless charging is underrated.

I think it is worth it if you keep the phone for at least two years. A 7+ to 8+ to new phone this fall would probably be a bit much (as you could have kept the 7+ then sold it to fund part of the new phone). However, a 7+ to 8+ to a 2019 phone is fine.

I did a 6S to 8+... Whatever phone I get next I will keep for two or three years. I feel like the iPhone line is in a bit of flux currently, so we will see what happens.

I am terrible for not keeping a phone for even 1 year never mind 2, and the depreciation is such that you end up spending way too much. Just shows that while in theory it's cheaper to buy outright and get SIM-only with your provider than be on a contract (in the UK at least), you do have to be disciplined. On a contract you'd tend to stick with what you're paying £70/month or whatever for.

Hopefully having got the 8+ I can keep still for at least a couple of years. Depends how the storage goes. 32GB was tight as heck on my SE, 64GB is good... for now...

Yeah big for me too having decided to go full Apple again with the laptop (truth be told I was getting tired of Apple in general, but experiencing Windows 10's unsolicited app installs, reboots, 3 hour feature updates and such, sent me running straight back).
On the positive side if you DO have Windows or Linux you have the Pushbullet stuff there, where you're out of luck with an iPhone (quite annoying at work). But it's definitely not as elegant. It drains the battery (continuity uses Bluetooth LE) and also the continuity system retains your privacy better than syncing things over the cloud.

The price of these new phones is getting rediculous. I bought a brand new factory refurb iPhone 6+ off swappa in 2016 for $580. Mint, new condition. Never used. And that was a LOT of money I thought to be spending on an iPhone. It has stayed on iOS 9 ever since. Phone still is just as fast as it was the day I got it ... which feels about the same speed as a new iPhone 8+ running iOS 11 (at least from what I could tell playing with an 8+ for a short while in the store).

So to answer your question- yes, everyone who buys a new iPhone these days is getting ripped off. The marginal improvement in camera and speed is hardly worth the $400 increase in price.
But we have no choice. Either break this sick addiction to Apple toys and go Android- or pay the price to play.

In all honestly that sounds a lot for a 6+. I just paid £500 (about $550) for an 8+ as-new refurb. Though it was admittedly an unusually good deal, but if you keep an eye out.

By that logic everyone who bought and 8 Plus (including myself) is crazy.

You didn’t spend the same on an 8 Plus as you would have on an X. An X would cost you $1000 before tax, and just for the entry 64 GB model, where as you have a 256 GB phone.

Personally, I would have bought the 8 Plus over the X even if they were the same price, just because of personal preference. Nothing crazy about that.

Different use cases. But, for me yes, I would have to be crazy to spend $1,000 on a phone. I don't believe any phone is worth that much at this point. There was a younger version of myself who would have dropped $1,000 on a new iPhone, but not any more.

For you, it sounds like it's fine. I wouldn't worry about what other people think because it sounds like it's working just fine for you.

I meant around the same amount of money anyway. Most people won’t care about a $50-$70 difference in pricing between the two.

You're still getting the same internals, 4 times the capacity, better battery life, and a (depending on how you look at it) larger display for less money. Lots of people (again, including myself) chose the 8 Plus over the X. Not crazy, just a choice.

My friends think I'm crazy because I buy a new phone every year. Buy what you like, what you can afford and what you choose to spend your money on. The 8 Plus is a great phone. I have an iPhone 8 and an X. I actually prefer the LCD screen and Touch ID, but am using the X because the larger screen is so much easier to read and use the keyboard on. The plus phones are too large for me to comfortably use.

It's what's available now and it has a solid user experience. I have looked at a lot of phones and the X feels like a cutting-edge experiment rather than a solid user experience which the 8/Plus are. The 8/Plus function very well. I have an iPhone SE and it is even more of a solid user experience for me.

I have a Tab S2 which is AMOLED like the X and I love the vibrant colours and witchcraft blacks. But I also very much like the natural look of the LCD iPhones like the 8 Plus. I can't decide which I prefer.

But user experience is a separate thing from looks and form factor. I don't think the 8/Plus compete on that score in 2018. The X competes better in those areas. Someone here recently compared the 8/Plus to a new Ford F-150 pickup rather than a Porsche and I agree.

You actually bought two new phones this year.
Well I'm with your friends;)

But what do you do with two? I mean when I buy a "new" used phone I just use this one. Atm a 6s which I bought last spring for 400€.

And I have my old 5s where my second SIM for a foreign country sits in which i use just a few times a week. Before i bought the 6s I used a Siemens ME45 for that.
That was hard:)

Not crazy, but you could've gotten it for a better price. We purchased a brand new one for my mom last month. New and sealed with warranty, for $880 flat on Swappa. She prefers the bigger screen and design of the 7/8 variants as well.

With that said, I think the X is the best iPhone yet. OLED screens have spoilt me.

I agree that the mindset of a lot of consumers is if their current phone is working as intended, they may not see the need to upgrade if nothing entices them about the latest devices. On the other side, with carrier installed payments monthly, consumers make an easier decision of upgrading because it’s more affordable for them to upgrade and pay the device off over time. But again, it depends on what the consumer views on why do they want to upgrade.
