As someone who watches a good amount of video, I much prefer the 16:9 aspect ratio, not having to compromise with the notch, and much prefer the touchID over faceID, the 8 Plus was a no brainer for me.

Forget about the price and simply buy the one that checks most of your boxes. “Might as well get an X since I am spending a grand on a phone instead of the (fill in the blank)” is not a valid reason for having made said decision imo.

I have to admit, second Gen touch ID with the haptic home button is excellent. I know many believe touch ID is no longer going to be in existence due to the future of Face ID, which is likely true. But even if somebody purchases the iPhone 8, It easily will see four years of iOS support, which by then would bring that iPhone to its last year of support approximately around 2020/2021.

I do like the capacitive home button on my 8.

I very much rely on the physical haptic feedback as confirmation of an action successfully completed. I like that connected feeling. Very much like the difference between driving a standard vehicle as opposed to an automatic, if that makes any sense.

Yes, I wish my iPad Pro 10.5 had the capacitive button and haptic feedback too.

Very much agree with this.

I have played with many many 10s, and decided that it just wasn't for me, so I decided to take the same money and bought the 256GB 8 Plus for $969 + Taxes. People have called me crazy, but I have had the phone since January, and I am still enjoying every minute of it. The A11 chip does feel much faster, and I am liking that Portrait Lighting features that it has.

Yes it does feel like the old 7+ I used to have, but I do use the new wireless charging feature, and bought a few Qi cheap charging pads for the whole house. I also found a Honeycomb branded wireless battery power bank from Walmart for only $39.

Was I crazy for spending the same amount I would have on a 10 on my 8 Plus? I figured I will just get whatever comes after the X when my AT&T Next upgrade would allow it.

Just buy what you can afford and what makes sense for you. Forget the opinion of others when it comes to purchases or to identifying a need. That to me is absolutely personal and only you should be in charge of your life.

Oh, I've noticed. Which is why I've started to make that particular comment.

Still, it's hard to understand. I don't always make the right choices but right or wrong, when I make a choice I'm not needing to have my hand held about it.
Yeah, me either. If I lived according to this forum, i'd have to have a new iPhone every year because it's the "right thing to do". Yet, I still have my 6S, on 9.3

Part of the reason I think that iPad does not have a haptic engine, is internal space that would require it. And depending on the way you’re holding the iPad, you may not feel the haptic sensation, because I think the vibration motor would have to be fairly strong with a device as large as the iPad. Where as the iPhones haptic engine resonates more evenly being it’s smaller.

Yes, the 7 is essentially the same phone. Would have been wiser going that route. But hey, if you have the money and need wireless charging.

I agree. I personally wouldn't dump my 7+ for a phone that's basically the same except for wireless charging....But I don't have bottomless pockets either. I think the worthy upgrade will be this fall with the rumored 10 Plus.

Not really, as tax is included in our prices. It usually works out roughly $=£ after that.

I don’t want to get off topic here, but this makes no sense. Because tax is included in the price in the U.K. USD roughly equals GBP? Not even taking into the fact that some states in the US have no sales tax at all, you cannot make such a generalization with the values of currencies.

No I did the same thing. I upgraded from the 7+ 128GB to the iPhone 8+ 256GB. I just couldn’t justify the X and learning the new features. I watch my friends get annoyed with some of the quirks and glitches that come with a first gen redesign and I’m glad I chose the most refined version of an iPhone.

As FaceID matures I’ll probably get the plus sized version of the X that comes out next time, but until then I’m pretty happy with what I have now.
