I have played with many many 10s, and decided that it just wasn't for me, so I decided to take the same money and bought the 256GB 8 Plus for $969 + Taxes. People have called me crazy, but I have had the phone since January, and I am still enjoying every minute of it. The A11 chip does feel much faster, and I am liking that Portrait Lighting features that it has.

Yes it does feel like the old 7+ I used to have, but I do use the new wireless charging feature, and bought a few Qi cheap charging pads for the whole house. I also found a Honeycomb branded wireless battery power bank from Walmart for only $39.

Was I crazy for spending the same amount I would have on a 10 on my 8 Plus? I figured I will just get whatever comes after the X when my AT&T Next upgrade would allow it.
Yes and no.

It will be supported and last. It avoids new features you didn't want. Keeps the tried and true of a proven design from 6S+ to 8+.

Your resell value on the 7+ and likely resell value of the 8+.

I don' shoot video or need the extra 4x of storage to justify that one extra expense.

Why can't someone, the OP in this case, have a discussion about something without being ridiculed with obtuse comments and remarks?

Don't like the topic or have anything constructive to add? Simple ---> Don't post in it....
I am not ridiculing. I am making what are to me, factual statements. Particularly in light of my own decisions.

And this is not a discussion. Discussion invites debate about facts. This is about subjective opinion.

Is the price of the device too high? <--- Discussion based on a relevant fact (price).

Am I crazy for paying that price <--- Opinion seeking (what is your opinion of what I have done?)

There's a difference.

As far as your last comments, if OP wants to open himself (or herself) up to opinion then they cannot shut the door when they get a comment they don't like.

Or are you suggesting that I should only post unless I agree and otherwise keep my mouth shut?

You can post whatever and wherever you want but putting someone down with statements like you've made is uncalled for just because the OP wanted to have a discussion about their purchase decision..

Meh, it is what it is..

If you are seeking for others approval to let you justify your purchase then you already know you didn't make a good purchase.

Where exactly in the following original post made by the OP do you read that he/she was seeking your, or anyone else approval for the purchase?

Here it is in case you missed it.

If you've read that as the OP seeking approval then we comprehend what was written differently..

If my personal opinion, which was asked for, offends (particularly OP) I cannot help that.

Don't ask for an opinion if you are not prepared to get one you don't care for.

I'm sure I could have been far less diplomatic, which would have given you grounds.

If you like it, who cares what others think? It’s your money. I’ve had an 8+ since September. My wife got the X in January. While I really like the X, not once have I regretted my decision to go with the 8+.

The threads title based gave everything needed to know.

What exactly in the title made you think the OP was seeking your justification or approval? I mean really? You'll have to do better than that..

Anyways, hate on I suppose... Some on the net are just angry and pass it onto others. I do often wonder if people act like this in real life of if it's just an odd alter ego that only comes out on the Internet..

I personally think the iPhone X is highly overrated, and thus overpriced.

Being a first-version of a new design will also really depressed the iPhone X's value after an updated version comes out this fall. (e.g., The iphone 6 lost more value when the 6s came out, than the iphone 6s lost when the 7 came out, and than the iphone 7 lost when the 8 came out. Generally, first-versions of a new design lose the most value with updates, than the later revisions to that design). In other words, I bet you'll do better on Swappa with your 8+ next year, should you choose to do that.

Also, I know it's actually not that thick, but the iPhone X looks really thick to me, especially with the huge camera bulge.

TL;DR: I would also go for the 8+.

None is angry here besides you based on your comebacks to everyone.
Maybe you are the one who should read the title?
"I spent $1,000 on an 8+, was I crazy?"
I'm sorry but I'm not going to give you a lesson on how to interpret words and sentences.

So again.. What exactly in that title made you think the OP was asking for your approval or justification of their purchase?

I suppose you can read into the title but I'd suggest before reading into the title you actually read the post.. If you had done that, then it should become clear the OP was not seeking your approval or justification..

If you say so but since we are just spinning our wheels here, and off-topic, I'll move on..

I'm bad for not keeping a phone beyond a year, sometimes shorter than that but I'm getting better.

I kept my 7 for almost exactly a year, had a hard time justifying buying the 8 but wanted wireless charging so bought that then sold the 7. Then, I wanted the X so bought that. Now I use 2 iPhones - have never been interrested in the + models due to their size/weight/bezels.

You actually bought two new phones this year.
Well I'm with your friends;)

But what do you do with two? I mean when I buy a "new" used phone I just use this one. Atm a 6s which I bought last spring for 400€.

And I have my old 5s where my second SIM for a foreign country sits in which i use just a few times a week. Before i bought the 6s I used a Siemens ME45 for that.
That was hard:)

You're right, I can't use 2 phones. I bought the 8 and then got caught up in the hype here and got the X. I ended up preferring the X and decided to keep the 8 for back up if needed.

Well that's a pricey backup. I can borrow u my me45 when needed ;)

I have different use cases for my two phones, the X is the daily driver and has the main sim card in it; the 8 sits on my night stand and I use it for podcasts, music and alarms/reminders.

I couldn't use 3 phones, although I have tried.

In all honestly that sounds a lot for a 6+. I just paid £500 (about $550) for an 8+ as-new refurb. Though it was admittedly an unusually good deal, but if you keep an eye out.

£500 is almost $700 (USD).

Thanks for your offer. :)
I originally held onto my iPhone 8 as I wasn't sure which phone I wanted to keep. After using the X for awhile I couldn't give up the bigger screen. I didn't want to give up the 8 as I still really like it and it has features I prefer such as the LCD screen and Touch ID. I do feel a little guilty wasting such a nice phone and may end up gifting it to a good friend's daughter.

It's not crazy if you can afford it. Now, if you were missing rent/food/paying bills for the month to buy it, then yes, you would be crazy.

These are my exact thoughts earlier. And it happens where others are undecided about a product, because I have been there myself many times. But that’s what return periods are for, to find out if you like something with a set amount of time, which retailers have 14 days.

You don't have to justify what you buy. If it fits your needs, only you can gauge if it was worth it or not.

I spent almost $1k on my 7 Plus. I still don't regret it because I wanted jet black and it was hard to find. So I ended up only able to find the 256GB.

If it works for you, only your opinion matters. If you are seeking reassurance, do you have doubts on the device?

This is actually a great comment on asking if the OP is having doubts rather than the other comments in this thread claiming the OP is seeking some kind of validation on their purchase. Which while it may be true, we don't know for sure.

~~My advice to OP: it's a phone not a life decision. Don't ask, and don't worry. Unless you can't pay the bills because you made us Apple shareholders more money, then yes it's crazy.
