Really? Prove it. And make sure it doesn't include all the phones.

The fact is Apple will never give us the individual sales. However based on the ASP the opinion has now shifted towards the iPhone X doing a lot better than the analysts predicted.

Similarly because Apple will never give us individual sales it can’t be proved that the X didn’t do well either...

Your links prove nothing. It still didn't hit expectations.

Maybe so, but the the proof I posted was from the suppliers. Requested amount to make and actually making. It didn't meet expectations.

I'm done here because you are wrong.

iPhone didn’t disrupt things to begin with other then in America, it couldn’t do half the stuff other devices could at launch. But it had a multitouch glass screen that was a first, iTunes saved the music industry.
Still doesn’t mean anyone has copied Apple over recent years..

All the US court did was agree the first Galaxy phone copied the interface of iOS. It did not prove anything more.

Doesn’t mean they haven’t copied OLED from other handsets.

Not just the US but the entire industry;
HTC, Motorola, Sony mobile, lg mobile, BlackBerry, Nokia, all gone.

Capacitive multitouch displays are now the standard. All because of the iPhone.

Samsung wasn’t the first with oled either. Thier oled tech is licensed btw.

And you can’t prove it didn’t hit expectations because Apple will never provide individual model sales figures...

I just did above with link and facts. EOD.

24/4/18: Five of Apple's key manufacturing suppliers have confirmed that the iPhone X isn't meeting expectations, Bloomberg reports, revealing that demand for the smartphone has "plummeted" since the handset made its debut last year.

Yet the earnings calls said otherwise...

You obviously didn’t read the article.

“At present, Samsung is the exclusive supplier of OLED panels for the iPhone X, being the only firm with enough production capacity to meet Apple demands”

If they did Apple would have realeaaed a plus version as well, they didn’t, still don’t, Apple had to turn to lg add to the supply chain.

Apple would not take a risk with putting out two high end expensive phones in the same year. The X was a risk in itself because they didn’t know how the market would respond to a $999 phone which is why they kept also released the 8 and 8 plus.

Oled might be hard to manufacture but Samsung have been doing it for years and have perfect it now.

Oled yes, flexible oled not so much. Well not until recently.

You have to remember the oled display in the iPhone is nothing like the other oled displays.

Those key Apple suppliers aren’t exclusive to Apple.

LG and Samsung have both produced flexible Oled displays before, in fact as far back at 2014. Yet those were not really ready for prime time. But I’m sure both would have improved over time.

Apple put out three last year.
Apple also sells a £7k MacBook Pro, and at one time £18k gold Apple Watch. Their higher end Apple Watch all retail for over £1100.
High prices doesn’t deter Apple.

Apple couldn’t secure enough oled displays to launch a second model.
Samsung had planned to sell 50 million plus s9s and 20 million note 8’s. As we are now finding out they have overestimated demand quite a bit.
Google also had to go with lg for the pixel xl as well and they don’t need as many panels as Apple does.
Huawei went with lg as well for thier Porsche design model.

Not enough Samsung displays to go around.

Not ready for prime time and the they weren’t able to scale enough to meet apples demand.
About 200 million a year.

Isn’t LG only supposed to be supplying 2-4 million Oled displays for the iPhone X plus? This doesn’t seem like a large amount? Almost like a test to see if they can meet Apple’s Demands not only in terms of scale but quality. I’m sure Apple would want to use samsung for their parts as little as possible. However at this point in time until LG can ramp up production then I think they will have to get the vast majority of their displays from samsung. I think Apple’s ultimate aim is to use LG as they have invested in their display tech.

Of course Samsung cant supply the OLED displays for eveyone but they will prioritise apple over any other OEM because Apple will be a bigger order.

I would say some of those reports in fact relate to Samsung who we know have had poor S9 sales rather than Apple.

Samsung display is also a supplier to Samsung mobile ;)

That’s what’s being reported for 2018 but we won’t know the veracity of the report until the end of the year.

well, Apple loves moving parts and stuff that breaks easily (no, they don't) so.... I don't really se the practical use for this foldable tech. smart eyewear?

Here is an article that explains the issue.

Why you'll need to wait seven weeks for iPhone X to go on sale

“The reason is as crystal clear as iPhone X's new OLED screen. OLED manufacturers can't build the screens fast enough.....It's an industry issue," says Ben Wood, an analyst at CCS Insight, a research firm headquartered in London. "There is a lack of manufacturing capacity for OLED and a lower yield of screens that meet (quality) standards."

But it wasn’t as bad as they initially thought?

Ming chi said the phone would be back ordered until feb/March of 2018. So obviously they got on top of it.

Quality standards are apple’s standards obviously. Tim Cook said a few years ago that Apple wouldn’t adopt Oled because of its limitations.

Initially thought? No one knows better than cook and Ming chi is making an educated guess at best.

Perhaps Samsung couldn’t hit their yield rates who knows.

Keep in mind the smartphone industry is always in flux. Some are able to stay ahead where others aren’t.

Samsung “initially thought” it would sell 70 million galaxy s9s and note 8 combined. The reality is more like 40 million estimated for the year, but we are only one quarter in since the launch of the s9 and sales have pretty much fallen of a cliff. So that 40 million can be revised down further if need be.

Not to mention, in about 5 weeks time Apple will launch, new iPhones and followed by googles new pixels. And I have a sneaking suspicion those two are going to really eat into Samsung’s market share in developed markets.

I think you nailed it. At first the X was slightly backordered. They turned it around and people could get one rather quickly. There was talk of the sales not being what past iphones sales were and maybe the X was a failure. But in fact it was Apple ramping up production with all of the part suppliers.
They were able to meet the demand without the long order delays of the past.

iPhone was introduced after RIM / Blackberry had already enrolled the early adopters.

Also iTunes was not invented by apple - they just bought the company "Soundjam" eliminated a major competitor and brought the sound jam team into apple.
