terrible

My email was down all Tuesday and now it's entering into Wednesday. I've been a longtime MobileMe user (paying $99/yr) before iCloud and have never experienced such a downtime before. Apple has been reliable before.

This is awful. There should be no single point of failure with the cloud.

iCloud? More like iClown!

Apple is looking like a bunch of amateurs with this widespread mail outage right before their big iOS6 announcement.

The whole world now sees how bad Apple's online services are - they really dropped the ball on this one.

Not only is iCloud a second rate online service (no photo sharing, no file sharing, no server-side mail rules - really!?) but now it is down for over 24 hours!

Hey Apple - some of us rely on iCloud as part of our lives: eBay transactions, travel updates from airlines, messages from family and friends, etc.

Wow. Just wow. Hey - it's 2012! Email is like water at this point and Apple turned off the spigot.

How about an iTunes credit as an apology for the inconvenience you have caused us all? Huh - how about it? We are paying you for this service after all...

Mail account incoming post is greyed out:
p02-imap.mail.me.com

How can i change that? Maybe it's the 'p02'?

I don't think you can change that, but you may be on to something - my account is pointing to p01-imap.mail.me.com and works fine, whereas my wife's is pointing to p02-imap.mail.me.com and isn't working.

If one of the host clusters (i.e. p02) out of 99 (they have p01-p99) is faulty then that would also explain the affected users being 1.1%

Only thing is...mine's working fine (p02), but my wife's is dead (p04).

On a German Apple forum, someone mentioned he contacted Apple. They told him that there was a problem with a server update and the problem will be fixed today, late afternoon, German time (so probably in four to six hours from now) …

Down for me as well.

This is probably the only time I can recall iCloud / MobileMe / .Mac has been down for a prolonged period of time.

So, a quick question, was everyone else a paying MobileMe / .Mac customer?

the issue I have with email being down is not for business purposes; as we have a true business solution. But my personal email (solely apple based) I use for bills, commerce, airline, my son's school, etc.

So why many can argue (and I agree) pick a solid business provider for your email (I.E. MS exchange server), the fact that iCloud is down certainly does not make it any less difficult to conduct daily life's needs- (at least in our day and age).

Fair enough. Most of my co-workers email me at my iCloud address (I've had the same address since iTools days), so I guess I will be missing some emails.

Too bad for the people trying to email me. My guess it is only students begging for essay extensions. No extensions for them... muahahahaha!

I've used a .mac address since the days of iTools. I had both .mac and MobileMe.

Question:

All the emails that I haven't received.....will I get them when service is ( finally ) resumed? Or are thy lost?

What a gong show. I keep checking for next iCloud update and all they do is move the time ... 5am PST and still not working ...

I was one of those who signed up just before it became free, and thus was never charged when my "free trial" expired.

iCloud mail sill off here since 17:30 Italy time yesterday.

Well said. This is insane that such a large company like Apple would allow this to continue for more than 24 hours. I too am one of the original users paying $99 for my account. Now there are too many users with free accounts and they probably can't handle the load. Some type of compensation is in order here.

Not happy!

No email for over 24 hours, they must have some serious problem for the outage to be so long. I wouldn't want to be the guy in charge right now, just before a major keynote too.

Nevermind.

Email down for 24 hours now

Midlands UK.
Been down since approx this time yesterday.
Becoming a major problem

Just outside London, UK. Been down for over 24 hours now. I can't recall an outage of this length for ANY service I've used on the internet for the past 15 years.

It took me a while to fully embrace iCloud as when I first started using it I would have weekly problems with various aspects of it: bookmarks not syncing, calendars not updating, etc., but for the past three or four months I haven't had a problem, so I made the final step of switching my email over to iCloud too.

I finally think they've sorted out the early teething troubles and have produced a reliable service that just works without me noticing it, and then this happens!

How are emails handled whilst system down?

Are emails being returned to sender? At least then they won't expect an answer or know to contact me by phone. If they're going into a black hole, then that gives me a bigger problem.

Nevermind.
