Idle Standby drainage - Android vs iOS

One of the great things i love about my mini is the standby drainage. Even after 2 days, it drains 1% only .

However, even with a rooted android phone and push disabled for most apps except whatsapp and google playstore and with firewall plus battery saving apps like one power gaurd installed, my phone drains 3% every hour on standby.

Even my friend's android phones have this problem where the idle drainage is really disappointing. I was reading a thread regarding Nexus 7 owner where after lot of tinkering and experimentation , he suspected that the Android OS is the problem.

Does iphone behave the same way?. How has your experience been on both OS with respect to Idle drainage?

Well my S4 drained from 90 to 78% in about 7 hours overnight but I did receive about 9 notifications from twitte overnight....so really for me it's tough to measure. Generally my iphone 5 lost % in standby close to that if i had to guess...it all depends how many notifications you get on a regular basics. this is why always having a spare battery kit is amazing when it comes to android..with the iphone you need to have a charger near you to recharge.

Do you leave your ipad mini on at all times then? my galaxy note 8.0 for example has 48% left and has been going for 14 hours so far..

Nexus 7, drains 20% in six hours doing absolutely nothing.

iPad Mini was at 100% in the same six hours doing nothing. My iPad Mini is winning the game and I'm thinking about dumping both Androids and never looking back. I want devices that can last all day when I actually uses them.

On my SGS4 I have brightness at full, bluetooth always switched on and all the bells and whistles activated. On standby it drains about 1% every 1.5 hours.

I use an anker astro mini external battery to give any of my portable devices a second charge. Sleek, fits in my coin pocket, and much cheaper than a mophie, without adding bulk and uglyness.

Fiddling with battery apps and micromanaging your phone can only help so much. Just gotta wait until a soon to be wealthy engineer invents a better battery.

How long does yours last then?

A better measurement is when at home as for me at work it's always looking for a signal. How many hours on average do you get?

depends what you call good battery life..I get on average between 15 hours to 1 day in total...with on average 3 hours to 5 hours screen time which is good to me..although when at work the screen time is likely only lasts 2 hours.

Just checked my Nexus 7 (all services on, push etc, auto brightness)

Took it off charger at 10pm last night, now just gone 9am (so 11 hours go)

It has been sitting idle, I have not been using it and the battery is 98%

Is yours WiFi only or cellular? Mine is cellular on T-Mobile.

Android does a lot of things in background compared to ios. Try disabling 'Google Now' , NFC and uncheck 'enable location history' under location settings. If you could post your battery usage screenshot, we might be able to help.

I have all those turned off already on my N7 except NFC and still have bad drainage.

really? wheres that?...have all locations switched off so might be why i can't see that.

It must have gotten better with the Qualcomm S600 chip because my S3, and Nexus 4 idle drainage was the worst. Like others, if I go to bed at 30% charge at night, I can count on my phone being dead when I wake up.

Here is my screen shot. 60% battery after 13 hrs and 40 minutes screen time.

I have all the things you listed off PLUS have disabled currents since I have no use for those either. I had cellular data usage turned off during part of the time.

Considering I get under one hour screen time on average before having to put it on the charger, yes I do. My Nexus 4 gets between 1-2 hrs daily. My iPad Mini has gotten as much as 11 hrs on one battery charge. Yes, this is bad for the Nexus 7.

And yes 11 hrs on the iPad Mini is correct. I use it for hours listening to music and other apps. If I could do even half that on the N7 I would be happy, The most I was ever to do on the N7 was about three hours.

Mine is using T-Mobile since I get bad reception using AT&T everywhere I go. My iPad has AT&T and even with the bad reception half the time, it never affects the battery.

I tested out at 9Mbps last night on T-Mobile.

what do you get with the S4?

I returned my S4 after a week with it, but I'll admit the battery life was excellent. There were some days that I would still have 70% after a day of use, and at night almost no battery drainage. I even found that the Juice Defender app didn't make much of a difference because the battery life was so good. Sadly with the S4, I didn't feel it was a vast improvement over my S3, so now I might consider the Google Edition, or hold out for the next iPhone in the fall.

I dunno maybe buy a battery kit if the battery is that bad? know thats not what you want but might be best option..think my battery life isn't bad and mine a t the same point isn't much off yours.

That's pretty bad if you think 40 minutes usage is OK for 56 % battery life left. Says a lot for Android I guess.
