That's pretty bad if you think 40 minutes usage is OK for 56 % battery life left. Says a lot for Android I guess.

If it was at home? no that would be bad but in a place with shocking signal like i have at work? its not far off...last few days my phone died with only 2 hours screen time

obviously on mainly wifi i would get over 3-5 hours screen time and 20+ hours total..which is good to me.

This is why I'm glad we have a removeable battery...

All these people generalizing Android itself as being the reason for bad battery life make me laugh. It's totally dependent on the phone, my Galaxy S3 had pretty bad battery drain. Even with JuiceDefender turned on/sync turned off, 10-15% idle drainage overnight was not uncommon.. under normal usage I'd be at ~40% by the end of the day. With my HTC One however, with the "Power Saver" setting turned on I can go all day under normal usage and still be at 70-80% easily. Standby drainage with sync set to every hour overnight is usually ~2-3%.

Point is that there are Android phones out there that can match or beat the iPhone. And keep in mind that many flagship Android phones now have 1080P screens that are .5-1'' bigger than the iPhone's on top of having quad-core CPU's.

Trying to compare battery life (even against the same hardware) is a pointless endeavor. Comparing two different OS's on different hardware is even more pointless. A generalization like, "the Android OS is at fault" lacks any credibility. Battery life is effected by signal strength, wake locks, push notifications, background processes, app permissions, CPU throttling and minimum frequency in standby, and so forth.

I can go 2.5 days in standby on my S3 or I can go 4-5 hours of screen on time, but no matter what, I can go from 0% battery to 100% battery in under 60 seconds by swapping out batteries. So for me, I use my phone as I please, without ever worrying about battery life.

Its nice to know that premium android phones are giving good performace with respect to battery and idle drainage. I have also heard good reviews about S4 battery as well. Maybe i need to ditch my current chinese phone and save up for the One.

If I use it moderately, my Huawei GoPhone lasts me 3 days on one charge, maybe seven hours if I'm using it constantly in one go, and then if I just answer phone calls, a full week.

The screen is only 3.5″, and it's not the best. But that's one of the main reasons the battery life is so good on it.

And I have like 100 different apps on it. Depends on your CPU governor settings for the most part. If you're not a heavy game player, or look at videos all that much, you won't notice a difference in performance for the most part, but playing around with the settings will help you.

Also depends on the apps. There's an app called Greenify that will let you disable whatever apps you select from working in the background.

Because it was fully charged.. Wanted to see how much it would drain. I got rid of the weather clock widget which came with the phone and just added a normal clock widget and added the small met office widget to see if there is any difference.

I shouldn't care about battery life really when I bought the battery kit so really I'm always with a spare battery but still I like comparing how long it lasts..

Standby drainage is a lot worse on android than iOS. On my android phone it can be anything from 10 % every hour to 20 % over 7-8 hours. The battery life on my android devices is pretty rubbish in general. It's hard to tell on my iPod touch as it doesn't have a battery percentage meter but on my ipad mini it's excellent. Sometimes it's gone for 8 hours in standby and it doesnt drop at all. It's so minimal.

Really? Just for fun, I decided to experiment with my Nexus 7. Took it off the charger and used it for 40 minutes (this means screen was actually on and tablet in use) before I went to sleep last night. I woke up and here are the results. As you can see, very little battery drainage once I finished using my tablet and put it down for the night.

And like I said, these sort of threads are meaningless and serve little purpose other than to attempt to solicit members into arguments. And while those of us with Android devices can actually prove our battery usage, we have to take an Apple users "word" on their battery usage, since iOS is useless at providing this sort of detailed info.

It may well be the devices that I have. I had the nexus 7 for a few months and the battery life on that wasn't bad. It wasn't as good as m iPad mini or galaxy tab but it was nowhere near as bad as my galaxy note.

I would say that the battery life on the nexus 7 was ok, the galaxy tab good and the iPad mini is excellent.

My galaxy note is just bad plain and simple. I tend to measure battery life in terms of what I can actually do with a device before the battery drains. On iOS devices I can get through the whole day with 3-4 hours of listening to music, a few hours web browsing/using apps and perhaps an hour or two watching videos.

With my android phone if I spend say 2 hours listening to music on the way to work, I'll be left with about 50% of my battery left. The only way I can make sure it lasts throughout the day is to basically not use it and even then it can sometimes drain unpredictably in my bag, overheat or turn itself off. I've tried other batteries and I even swapped it for a brand new device and its the same.

Dunno about you guys but my S4 drains 3-4% overnight, which I find pretty reasonable.

My Nexus 4 will drop like 10-20% overnight. My iPad, 0.

My original Note was that way. My Note 2 is bounds better. I'll drop around 10% battery on 2 hours music through streaming on Google music.

IKR? The battery was horrible, and people in this thread even thought that I was lying.

The SuperNexus ROM fixed the battery issue.

----------

I'm on 18 hours and 47 minutes witha tad over 4 hours of on screen time. I have 37% battery left.

That's really good. Wish I could get that with my phone.

Decided to leave my phone on 3G and it drained 26 percent overnight when it normally drops 11 on wifi. I had 11 notifications from twitter but still that's too much.

Dunno maybe it's because of this met office widget I downloaded.

Here's mine, Galaxy S3. Screen is on manual brightness, slider near the centre.

Haven't gone out today so it's mainly on WiFi. Played some Subway Surfurs and exchanged some WhatsApp messages.

Here's my unscientific experiment I did last night. It's at least real since no one here is including screen shots. However its cross platform (tablet to phone).

It's from 4:20 to 7:40, I don't sleep much and the phone (iPhone 4S) was put in airplane mode so notification didn't effect it.

8u9e8ate.jpg

sa2e3uhe.jpg

Dropped about 3% in less then 4 hours. That's about right because I generally get 10-15% drop with iOS over night. My signal is generally 3 bars. I actually started my test at 11:57 with at 99% but not in airplane mode.

ygyhegun.jpg

Then here is my Xoom. It's running ICS, in airplane mode but with wifi turned on because I cancelled the cellular subscription.

I used both devices to get them off of 100% to 99% because sometimes 100% takes a while to come off of. Anyway.

na9e8aqu.jpg

ebahajeq.jpg

Came down 1%. Taking in account the size of the Xoom's battery compared to the 4S it was similar performance. Esp, considering the iPhone was completely in airplane mode and the Xoom was still on wifi. I'm surprised to see anymore "usage" at all on the iPhone in airplane mode.

But like I said, not very scientific.
