If anything irritates you about Apple.. what is it?

Most of us here will kill to keep OSX on our desktops, but we all know Apple isn't perfect either! What aspect of Apple irritates you the most?

Me myself... I'd think Applecare can be better, and I really don't like Apple's hard price points for various items.

At the moment, it's sealed batteries in things like iPods and especially the little remotes that come with FrontRow and the iPod Hifi.

There are probably good reasons for going in this direction but as far as the remotes go, why couldn't they just make one that runs from a single AAA battery, rechargeable or otherwise? How many other general device remotes are sealed units like this? Very few, I would wager.

I was looking at one yesterday (the one that came with my HiFi) and was wondering how long it would last... and yet, when its battery is worn out, I'm expected to buy a new device and throw the old one away? Don't we have enough plastic junk in our landfills already?

The thing that bugs me most is the lack of a small Pro-notebook and also the fact that the size of the notebook dictates its features. i.e. with the old PowerBooks the 12" was considered the "low-end" model but why weren't some of the features of the 15/17 available on it (even as extras), such as the backlit keyboard etc? Grrrr.

the backlit keyboard may have been because the sensor on the 15/17"ers was under the speaker grill, but there was no speaker grill on the 12", and besides that there might not have been room.

Believe me or not, to me, Apple is perfect. They always go way ahead of my excpectations with new products, and though their pricing is a bit high, I'll pay, no matter what. The rules is, they make it, we buy it...

I dislike the remotes for a different reason. At this point, they are just a gimmick. Where is my complete Media Center Mac? At this point Microsoft blows Apple out of the water when it comes to media center PCs.

It was embarrassing when Steve Jobs was comparing his remote to other PC remotes. Sure it may be half the size and have half the buttons, but it also has half the features!

Not using an article before the word 'iPod' in press/support pieces bugs me. I hate just seeing iPod as if it was a personal name rather than an object.

The stock availability to non-Apple suppliers is also annoying as is the total lack of visibility as to product life-cycle. It makes it very tough to plan a spread containing iPods for a catalogue going out in October when in July/August, you have no clue whether they'll still being sold in October!

1) Being so ballsy about product releases - No one actually cares that much.
2) Not bringing out a 13" portable with a GPU - The customer is always right.
3) Being all high and mighty about "how poor Windows is". It's fine.
4) Their utterly crap Mac advertising - Get a better marketing firm on side.
5) The ideology that Steve Jobs is some sort of God that invents the products, designs the products, manufactures the products and ships the products personally.

6) There is still no special edition Madonna iPod. Boooo!

Agreed about the sealed iPod batteries. Part of innovation and sustainability is making a solution that isn't chucked in the landfill, and is easily user-serviceable. The new MacBooks with easily removable hard drives are a good thing in this respect.

My main gripe is the lack of a range of options. Don't get me wrong, I love my Macs, and would love a MacBook, but I wish they'd offer low end versions of their hardware, without all the frills (like the iSight, the Frontrow Remote, etc).

I also don't like the simplicity of some things, like Frontrow. I want options in a program like that. i wanna be able to make the font smaller on it. I want to be able to add text previews to files, and choose what clips to preview, etc.

So yeah, in general - the small range of choice they offer consumers is the one downside I see.

Oh, and their terrible, hideous, appalling way of just plainly ignoring my continual iTunes help request email.

Agreed - particularly with iPhoto deliveries where you pay astronomical charges for a shoddy 2-3 week service rather than the express 2-3 delivery in the US since the package gets to clear customs in three countries thanks to sending everything via Amsterdam

The keep upgrading thier products just weeks after I buy one.

I buy the powerbook, weeks later they anounce the intel switch, htne release a higher res powerbook.

I buy an iPod, not even a month later they release the video iPod.

Sealed batteries in the iPod.
No Applecare in SA.
High costs of hardware in SA (disproportionately so)

Other than those few gripes - I'm a complete fanboy

Actually, the complete lack of options in FrontRow gets my goat. Also, they should have tried harder convincing Adobe to re-release CS2/bring forward CS3 with Universal binary before announcing the Intel switch.
