I'm not located in US so I wondered. I know UK is shifting it another time so wondered about that. :)
Anyway, doesn't look like its today.
So press release maybe?

The time shift in the U.S. happens at the same moment for the whole nation with the exception of the few small regions that don't recognize DST and never switch their clocks. Looking fairly unlikely for an invite today.

Doesn't look good for next tuesday. Although there are 3 scenarios still in play.

1) Event invite will happen tomorrow (or later today)
2) It won't be an event as there is not much to show so it will just be press release next tuesday with some Demo videos like last year
3) Its not happening next week

Personally, I am inclined to believe that its just press release. If its just iPad Pros (we assume airtags are not happening) then there is not much to talk about so press release makes perfect sense. An actual event invite would mean that there is something "substantial" to show so in this case it could be airtags and some more good stuff as you can't fill an event with just airtags.

March 30th could be an option for the event but I doubt that.

To me, press release makes the most sense. Here is iPad Pro with Mini LED and A14X. The rest is the same. Price is up $50. Preorder this friday. :)
If it's really just iPads, this makes sense. Especially since pretty much only rumors are pointing towards a processor upgrade, 5G upgrade and microLED on the 12.9". I know Apple likes their events, but this is info you can do in a short demo video.

Yeah, I think it is what it is. Press release makes the most sense especially for just this.

Last year was press release with Lidar and chip tweak.
This year will be new A14X and Mini-LED = that doesn't need an event as it would be over in few mins.

Airtags itself won't hold an event and the rest might not be ready so yeah, next tuesday press release is my chosen "poison" :D :D :D

Yeah if no announcement by tomorrow, definitely a press release.

The iPad Pro is almost definitely happening this month, I got a feeling we may have an April event this year instead.

The problem is, what the event will bring? There is really nothing that would warrant an event as the big M1X (or M2) will be at WWDC as I'm sure they will want to highlight the progress so iMacs etc. will probably happen then.

Airtags? Maybe but who really cares. Airpod? Maybe but no event needed. AppleTV? Well, if its something significant then that would connect to WWDC as I'm sure Apple would highlight some software features that would be connected to that AppleTV so thats a no as well. Apple display? Sure but again, not event worthy.

So, yeah. Press release and then WWDC. I don't think we have anything for an event in April.

Last year WWDC started the transition so there is no way that this year WWDC wouldn't continue and update us there. So that means hardware would come then (or be talked about).

Either we get something next week or its delayed till April as you say with other stuff OR we get press release next week and then WWDC will be the juice :)

When are new iMacs being released? That would merit an event. The rumored iPad Pro update alone doesn't. Neither do Airtags. AirPods 3 appear to be delayed. So if nothing is announced tomorrow regarding an event, I would expect a press release announcement of new iPads next week or the week after.

While I plan to consider an update to this new iPad, honestly the update seems underwhelming based on current rumors

Yeah, exactly. Too early for iMacs though so yeah, press release most likely. :)

I do wonder if this is to be the debut of miniLED tech whether they'd want to go through it 'on stage' (what it is and what the benefits are) - though I suppose a video ad alongside the press release could explain it (I guess there isn't really all that much to say). Looking much more likely to be a simple press release at this point?

Let’s be honest here though...

Can you imagine the event...

miniLED this, miniLED that, look at how amazing miniLED is, you definitely need miniLED, this is the best screen ever on an iPad... oh btw the 11” don’t have it.

For some reason I have a feeling we may only get a 12.9” release at this point...

I think this is going to be one of those weeks where Apple updates a new product on their website every day. I remember they did that a few years ago. One day it was iPads next it was watch bands next it was cases

I think that definitely justifies an event.

A14X (or alternatively, M1 inside an iPad Pro - I don't see any reason that can't happen and would be further unification of the two product lines. it would make sense as far as economy of scale goes for apple to just churn out more M1s than run a seperate line for iPad Pro) would be a major leap in performance and mini-led is a brand new to iPad display tech. Apple would be able to get at least 30 minutes out of that.

I'd also suspect that touchID may return to the iPad pros. I hope so anyway. I think the fact that it is on the iPad Air is promising.

I'm hanging out for the iPad Pro 12.9 announcement as it may end up replacing my combination of iPad Pro 10.5 and 2020 MBA for most use.

edit:
the more I think about it, the more I feel the M1 may actually end up in the iPad Pro as a major "blow people's socks off" event.

There's no reason it won't fit. Its in the 13" MBA with no fan, in a similar chassis size/thermal budget/etc. I mean what would an A14X bring to the table that an M1 does not?

8 GB RAM, the same/similar (if they slightly reduce clocks to keep it cooler/better battery) CPU and GPU performance as a 13" MacBook. It makes sense IMHO for a pro level iPad (the specs basically line up to what I feel we should expect) and personally I feel it is technically achievable.

Agreed. I think we’ll get press releases, product demos to the usual suspects in the media & product marketing videos on Apple.com, YT etc.

The March events have felt rather thin for the last few years anyway, so I wonder if a virtual even would be worth the time and cost. Apple needs to keep these events feeling special.

Finally, Air-tags still seems to be a little early given that so much of the world is in lockdown / battling the pandemic. A September release seems a better idea, as much of the world will be out and about (to a varying degree) by then.

Whatever they announce I’ve decided it’s too risky.
Im waiting for OLED Displays and a full M2X Generation upgrade. M1X will most likely have some crazy security exploits.
I need LPDDR5, 120Hz OLED and 12 Performance Cores and 4 Efficiency Cores. Let’s go M2X

Yeah i would too wait for OLED if it would be perfect.

It isn't. A) Burn in is still problem with OLED and B) Yellow tint in iPhone 11 Pro and 12 Pro models. (Had to swap my 11 pro max couple of times to get "acceptable" levels of yellow tint.
