I would probably switch over to Verizon for these reasons:

1. They have better data speeds in my area.
2. More people in my area use Verizon (i.e. more Mobile to Mobile usage)
3. They seem to be more on task for the future (i.e. LTE, whereas ATT won't even have 7.2mbps HSDPA completely rolled out until halfway through 2011, whereas Verizon will already have quite a few LTE markets up and running)
4. ATT is showing wayy too much hostility lately towards net neutrality. I don't like a carrier that feels they have the right to block certain services because they don't want everyone and their iPhones to trash their fragile network
5. ATT has a severe lack of responsibility. They brought the iPhone exclusivity contract upon themselves.... they begged for it. They then showed us that they weren't ready for the burden of being the lone iPhone carrier. They dropped the ball with MMS, Tethering, and their network in regards to preparing it for the data intensive applications such as SlingPlayer, etc, etc, etc.

Thankfully, I am a light network user. I like the simplicity and robustness of the iPhone. That makes up for ATT's fall through. I wish I could use my iPhone to it's full potential, but ATT let me down on that note.

Personally, I am switching to T-Mobile when my Verizon contract is up. T-Mobile is the ****. They dont care what you use for a phone, and fully support the iPhone. If Verzion offered one, they'd probably tack on their "smartphone" charge, like they do with the blackberry's, and with what (little) service I get now with them, I would not get one with Verizon.

I'm pretty sure T-Mobile no longer supports iPhone. As a matter of fact it was a discussion topic on this site a few weeks ago. Something about Jailbreakers being upset because they could no longer use the sidekick data plan for the iPhone.
Can't find the thread at the moment but I'm sure its there.

Many people have gotten Verizon to unlock their GSM side for overseas usage with a cheaper local SIM... something that Apple won't do.

If Apple offers a dual radio phone, and Verizon allows unlocking the GSM side overseas, that would be a major incentive to switch for International travelers stuck with locked U.S. AT&T iPhones.

I'd switch if they had the same or lower price. AT&T's 3G coverage map is a lie. I get little to no service at my home or school.

I would probably switch depending on the prices of the plans. I have minimal AT&T service at home so I would definitely consider it and lean towards it.

IF Verizon had the iPhone and it wasn't bogged down with crappy Verizon software ...

As Verizon doesn't "bog" down smartphones, you have no worries.

MSPaint ftw. I am starting to hate verizon too. Don't get me wrong there coverage is amazing I get 1xEVDO everywhere even in areas where AT&T would be on GPRS at best by they charge you unfairly and take vital features off phones like wifi and GPS.

How do they charge unfairly? The plans look to be the same price, minus rollover. However, Verizon allows Slingplayer and Skype.

Also, no worries about GPS or WiFi these days.

Having grown tired of the terrible AT&T service in NYC (and realizing that everything I love about the iPhone has nothing to do with it's phone capabilities) I terminated my contract with AT&T (paid $100), sold my iPhone, went back to Verizon and got a Blackberry Tour and bough a new iPod Touch. It's so nice having reliable phone service again and the BB Tour is a fantastic phone. These things are so light that carrying two items instead of one isn't even an issue (maybe many years ago when cellphones weighed a ton and MP3 players looked like VCRs it would have been).

Best of both worlds.

Staying with AT&T

Verizon in central Fl has horrible reception. When i had Verizon had to walk out of my apartment building just to get enough signal to send a txt, and if you wanted to make a call it was a walk to the center of the parking lot. AT&T works great where I'm at never go back.

They claimed I had unlimted data on my plan but at the end of the month I ge a $400 bill in the mail for barely what you would call light browesing. Like under 30megabytes in one month. And while I realize verizon is no longer bogging down smartphones they still don't have a variety of phones with wifi and still charge for GPS. On top of that there's a UMTS node b like 700feet from my house/school and my dads AT&T phone gets 5 bars of 3G, all my friends are also getting like max download speeds on there iphones too.

I'd switch in a millisecond, GLADLY pay the early contract severance fee, give the old one to my niece or nephew or someone on the street and never look back.

Mike

Nope. Their phone plans and data are pretty much the same as ATT price wise and ATT has rollover and I have a 24% corporate discount and great coverage. No need to switch.

Oh and I travel internationally and appreciate being able to pop a SIM in my phone.

Oh HECK YEA I"D SWITCH

Yes I would, I do NOT use the 450 minutes that I pay for now and will never ever use the 3500 roll over minutes with AT&T, the voice and data service is far superior to AT&T's .

No doubt if they offered it tomorrow I'd be a the door waiting for the store to open.

AT&T in my area is horrible, but hey do NOT forget that 30% dropped calls is acceptable to AT&T

I'd switch in a heartbeat, Verizon 3g is way larger than horrible At&t.
I hope that all US carriers get the iPhone, more carriers, more competition and hopefully it leads to lower monthly plans.

Wow 30% percent dropped calls is considered acceptable, thats freaking ridiculous

I would push my wife and children out of the way to get an iPhone running on Verizon. :)

No, because if Verizon had the onslaught of iPhones that AT&T does, they would be having the same problems.

I dont know for sure but i would venture to guess that Verizon would have issues with the explosive number of iPhone customers. Especially with the massive about of bandwidth we use.

I have actually been pretty happy with AT&T. My wife and I both left Alltel for the iPhone and I was worried about the AT&T service but it has been OK. I don't care much for Verizon and I would assume they would try to cripple the iPhone anyway. I would just stick with AT&T.

They claimed I had unlimted data on my plan but at the end of the month I ge a $400 bill...

Sorry to hear it. This is probably a major reason why carriers are now requiring data plans... so there's no chance of people using data without one and getting big bills. Did you end up paying it ?

And while I realize verizon is no longer bogging down smartphones

They never added software to their smartphones that "bogged" them down. At most, they added an optional red theme and a link to their store.

they still don't have a variety of phones with wifi

Verizon now actually has more 3G smartphones with WiFi than AT&T.

But CDMA users don't need WiFi as much, if at all.

Carriers like AT&T needed the WiFi as a crutch because of their lack of 3G coverage. Steve Jobs himself kept using the WiFi radio as an excuse for the first iPhone being EDGE only.

and still charge for GPS.

They don't charge for GPS. They do have the optional turn-by-turn VZNavigator, the same as AT&T. Only Sprint includes a Navigator version.

If verizon picked up the iphone and I was compesated for the EFT some how in a heart beat. If not yes at the end of my ATT contract.
If Verizon picked up the Google my touch I would jump immediately. There are only a few apps I use but as long as i have email, web, sms and mms I am all set

That some bs.... they need wifi just as bad as GSM does.

That some bs.... (CDMA users) need wifi just as bad as GSM does.

The numbers don't support such a claim.

1) Verizon and Sprint had their 3G networks rolled out while AT&T was still just boosting nationwide EDGE speed for the first iPhone.

2) Verizon and Sprint 3G coverage is much larger than AT&T's.

Those are facts, not opinions.

There will, of course, be exceptions where you don't have coverage, but overall the USA CDMA carriers simply don't need as much WiFi backup.

Yes, I would switch. Verizon has better coverage, hands down. Customer Service is significantly better with Verizon and data speeds don't really matter when it takes longer for the phone to render the page then it does to pull it off the cell tower.

If Verizon had the iPhone (App store and all), I wouldn't think twice about switching.

Seems like there's a lot less stress on the Verizon network because of the crappy phone selection they have... adding a few million iPhone users could easily cripple their network in heavily populated areas, making it no better than AT&T, no?

This is all pure conjecture :p
