I'm curious... how do you balance your usages with the 2022 Tab S8 Ultra and 2021 iPad Pro? Is it a matter of which one that needs to be charged?
They are not used for the same things. The only common usage is as monitors.
For this usage for instance I need to annotate the work of my university students and it's more effective to have them all at the same time, so I have multiple displays/tablets (iPads, Surface devices and Galaxy Tabs) on my desk (with stands that allow me to put one above the other and can compare and annotate them)
Otherwise I use the S8 ultra mainly for watching movies, while the M1 is used mainly for watching youtube.
The 2018 12.9 is used a lot to view PDFs/Word documents in portrait mode for work or for displaying sheet music on my piano. And they all have many secondary usages too.
But indeed I sometimes also choose to optimized battery health. I generally charge up to 90% and if sometimes I don't hear the shortcut warning me to unplug at 90% I use the iPad I accidentally charged to 100% before the others (none of this is necessary with Samsung tablets, which can stay plugged in all day since I use the option to limit the charge to 85%).

Absolutely, on launch, just like I did with the 2015 iPad pro and with the 2022 Tab S8 Ultra. Both were sizes / form factors I had been waiting for a while so I got them as soon as I could. Instead I got the 2018 pro and 2021 pro later, either on sale or refurbished, since they were an improvements (a huge one for the 2018 one, much bigger than from 2018 to M1) on an existing size.
I might not buy the MK immediately just like I didn't for all my iPads (I generally wait for sales for accessories).
The question is more which storage/RAM configuration will I pick (I think I'll go with 16GB RAM or maybe even 24 if the option is offered, unless the price difference is huge)
This time I am tempted to go with the white keyboard, so I'll probably get the silver iPad.
I might save on the Pencil instead, I already have 3 (one for each, 2018 12.9, 2018 11in and M1 12.), so I think I have enough pencils 2.
Ah and I'll get the 5G version (man, I am going to beat my record of how much money I'll have spend on a single device 😅 for now the record is a 2006 laptop bought for $2500....)
By the way I have no intention of selling any of my pros (I have different uses for all of them, including as monitors, and the older ones are not worth selling anyway), so this one will add to the team... 😁

Nah, Apple will get you with the Apple Pencil 3...! ;^p

Apple hit the point of hardware convergence between the top end iPad and the low end Mac. That is where the expectations get bigger. In the early days there was a large performance disparity between what was under the hood in an iPad and a Mac. even the architectures were different. Now with he arrival of the M1, and the proof on the MacBook Air and Mac mini that the CPU is more than capable of running all Mac software, and the inclusion of that same CPU in the iPad product lines, there is an expectation (right or wrong) that the devices should be able to do similar things and fulfill similar roles. There is no physical limitation why the iPad Pro cant run any application on an M1 Mac currently, except maybe size and ram issues in a case by case basis.

Apple could do better but doesn't have a reason to yet. Its 16 is a "lets see if this is enough to sell M1 iPads." if it isn't then iPad OS 17 next year will add a few more features that should be no brainers. Apple is a master of minimum work for maximum profits and that is what this is all about.

I think finally it is going in a better direction and Apple showed that they heard and understood what people expect from iPad Pros in general.

But: as much as I like the new features - it is *still* an iPad. It is still and will always be about the software at the end of the day. If the software you need is not available, then you will need to go with something additional.

You will still have the feeling and need for a full sized computer.

Apple is not willing to change this. They want to sell you two concepts and two devices.
