So far, so good.

Did they actually manage to pinpoint the problem and tell you what it was? Or have they just replaced everything in a kind of scorched-earth policy? Just in case...

The guy called this morning and said it was doing a lot of kernel panicking on wakeup (duh), and that they had replaced the main logic board and that the power source was operating normally, so they didn't replace it.

All I know is if it screws up again, I'm getting another one.

Thanks for putting up with all my bitching. :D

Hope all goes well for you.

I wonder how long it'll take before your sub-conscious really accepts that's it's working alright and that it's not going to start acting weird again.

iGary,

Glad to hear that Apple is taking care of your situation.

Also glad that you didn't just give up and accept the original store manager's
answer.

My G5 2.0 Rev "B" is nearly a year old now and I'm thinking about getting AppleCare, but so far it's been perfect.

It has locked up a couple of times and would not boot right form the store, but I reset the SMU and ran some maintenance and all is fine...for now.

Thanks for asking. :)

Well, I hope that solves all of your troubles. I can't imagine having to go through all of those problems just to end up at the start again.

Yeah, nice addition to the avatar too. ;) They never cease to amaze me. haha

The Library.
i think a nice new rack of intel xserves with 4 HD ninty inchers hooked up and 100 TB total storage, 2TB RAM, and final cut super 16 HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHD should make everything ok.

scary part is, in 20 years from now, i'll be haing fracking problms what that "dream system" apple will be switching to PPC G54 processors, an i'll be left in the dust.

hehehe.

glad to hear all is well again!

I hope things stay in the right for you iGary, but I got to say that I am glad I didn't get rid of my PMG4 if the G5s are this much trouble normally. I never do anything to my PM but put it to sleep and restart after updating, and maybe some occasional repairing of permissions. I hope the new Intel units aren't this high maintenance and troublesome.

You're being optomistic if you think IBM/Motorola can get through 49 revisions of the PPC in just 20years, you'll be lucky to see a 3Ghz G5 in that timeframe.

I finally got to a "senior" agent yesterday, and he had me run a program that dumps all the error logs and cache so "engineering" could look at it. He said that we would probably hear something back last night, early today at the latest.

Not trying to be an impatient ass, I waited till 12 our time today to leave him a voicemail, and no return call yet. So one day has turned into two. I'm really really starting to lose my patience, and despite my "bitchy" cover here, that's extremely hard to do. I'm getting close to the part where I stop being nice (like I have been doing for six weeks now) and start yelling.

I can't even begin to explain how pissed off I am - I've had four kernel panics today alone.

Any suggestions?

My plan was to call him tomorrow, and if I get voicemail to call the AppleCare number until they transferred me directly to him.

Demand a quad in exchange with equivalent specs (RAM and such) and give me your RAM and graphics card.

and a PCI USB card since the one i have hates my powermac and makes all my games freeze -_-

Gary, Gary, Gary... I'm quite glad this hasn't sent you running for the WindowsHills yet.
I'm also quite glad that I never ponied up the dough for a G5.

You know Gary I hate to bring this up but it might be time to drop the old contacting the media card about this and I don't mean the local papers either when you talk to someone (if they call back). It seems that they forget people do interact with others (like in this forum) and word of mouth can really do harm. You have been more than willing to work around this problem but now it's cutting into your $$$ and maybe you should send them a bill for your down-time. Hey some places wouldn't think twice about saying this to someone in his position and give him a pinch of the real world responce time via a bill statement.

Sad to see this taking so long and worse nothing has helped out even a tad to get you by until a new machince can come in (if they even entertain it as it seems they can't even do that  ) Good luck.

Well I'm at a loss as what to do - I mean this is the guy that basically decides if I'm stuck repairing and continuing to eff with this thing or giving me a new machine...but he's obviously got too many cases to deal with and I'm being blown off.

I really don't know if this is the time to start being an ass or not. :(

IMO, it's time... but you can still be nice about it. Just be firm.

How much of the internals have been replaced now (multiple times)?
How much downtime have you had bringing it in for this repair or that?
How much productivity have you lost with repairs, phone calls, and KPs?

Just tell the guy, I still want a Mac, but I want one that works consistantly... and this one is NOT it. I paid a TON of cash for this and I want a resolution now, no more jerking me around.
