I was almost ready to buy Schoolhouse but it looks like I'll be going with your iPhone and Mac desktop app instead. Great work.

Some suggestions, may or may not have already been mentioned...

Hey everyone! I'm really sorry for the late responses in this thread - it's been awhile since anyone has posted here and I'm excited to see it active again!

To respond to the two most recent posts - I have a lot of plans for the desktop version of iHomework. Honestly, the desktop version has been kind of neglected lately. With the introduction of the iPad and the beta releases of iPhone OS 4.0, I just haven't been able to concentrate on the desktop version. One of my biggest goals in the next few weeks is to refresh the desktop version to not only include the features available in the mobile versions, but to provide a much cleaner and sleeker UI.

iHomework is a project that I work on alone, so there is constantly a list of things I want to add/work on that I just don't get the time too implement. I promise eventually I'll get everything into the app! I'm always working to improve it!

Thanks for the hard work Paul.

Hey everyone,

I'm a little late with the next update of iHomework and for this I apologize! The next update will be 1 of 2 major updates, and includes a huge update to how the app manages your information, including almost an entirely new desktop version. I split this update into two because I need to get the first one out to finally support iOS 4 and Retina Display. Since I graduated in May I've started a "real" job - which means I only get to spend nights/weekends on iHomework.

For the second half of this update I am looking for any translators interested in helping to localize iHomework internationally. Currently, English is the only supported language. I'm looking to expand that into to any language I can get translators, and thought I would shout out to other Macrumors members. Please PM me or post here if you're interested!

Hello

I just recently purchased the App. I love it so far, I sat with it for a good half hour adding all my classes and such on my iPad. I then installed it on my iPhone 4 and realized I have to sync. I figured out i needed the desktop app so after getting that I tried to sync and i've read almost every page in here and I haven't figured out why it wont sync. It's not finding the session and i've tried the whole deleting the profile and such but with no success. Any help?

+1 to the post above.

I've been trying to get my phone to sync for the past week with no luck. I've tried three different networks with one of them being unsecured. There has to be an update on what to do/try in order to get the app to sync.

I've tried deleting the profile, etc... Even tried the terminal command to disable/enable Bonjour..nothing.

Any new suggestions?

EXTREMELY disappointed in the 2.0 update.
First I had to delete the app from my iPad to even get it to start (I did a back up of my data)Then, I updated the desktop app so I could sync my data back. Now I am incapable of syncing my data and have to start from scratch..
:mad::mad: I really would like for this to be fixed soon..

Hey shadowbird, I emailed the developer and he submitted a fix to the app store for the iPhone version I know. Send him an email, he is very helpful and a great guy!

Hey shadowbird - I apologize for the issues you're having with the 2.0 update. I submitted an update Tuesday night (same day the 2.4 update was released) that I believe addresses the issue with migration and sync.

Also, I uploaded iHomework for Mac 2.0.1 tonight (about an hour ago) that addresses an issue with a corrupt Preferences window, which was preventing users to start a sync session.

I apologize for the issue and I'm making sure I release the fixes as quickly as possible.

Thanks iHalo - but the bottom line is that some (not all) are experiencing an issue migrating and syncing with this update. I want to make sure this problem is fixed for everyone!

Thanks!

I backed up all my data (I knew where the files were) and downgraded everything back to the 1.3 era. I will upgrade back as soon as I can. I had heard you fixed issues quick, but DAMN. Near zero turnaround time.
Thanks so much, glad to see this app alive and kicking..
A very pleased customer. :D

iHomework Screencasts

I've started recording iHomework screencasts and posting them on Youtube. I thought it would be more fun to have interactive guides as opposed to just posting on the website or answering emails. I plan to record a bunch, but the first one, "Getting Started", can be found here:

I've been using this app for a couple of days now, and it is great!
Just one question: What happens to overdue assignments?

Also is there a way to combine this with the built in calendar app? That way I don't have to enter major dates twice.

iHomework for Mac

Hey everyone! As you can tell from this site everyone is pretty excited about the release of the Mac App Store. iHomework for Mac is now (exclusively) available through the MAS.

More development news to come very soon but I'd love to get everyone's initial feedback about the newest iHomework for Mac update.

Hey Paul. First time user, I'm a chemical engineering major in sophomore year, so this is the answer to me prayers! I love your app but I have one question: are you going to have a sync option for PC users? I don't have a Mac, so I'd like to have that desktop option on my PC. Thanks again and keep up the good work!

Hey Paul, I've got another problem, and its a doozy.
I upgraded to the new version of iHomework and lost all my info (Though the desktop app still has it because I extracted it from the app in time). The old desktop version of iHomework is incapable of checking for updates now, and you don't have the companion app on your website anymore.
Make no mistake, I will buy your app on the Mac App store, but I need my info off of this app first. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your work.

Hey Paul,
I love the interface for your app on my iPad. I was able to input almost all of my assignments for the next couple of weeks inside of an hour, today. When I tried to sync the information over to my computer though, I kept getting "The connection failed. Let's keep trying..." after a few minutes of it trying to connect. I'm running a MacBook Pro with OS X 10.6.6 and iOS 4.2.1 and followed all of the instructions from the tutorial that you posted on Youtube. I really hope that this is a simple fix that I'm just not seeing on my end.

Thanks!

EDIT: Well, I feel a bit silly. I just restarted both devices and the sync is working splendidly.

courses schedule

I know it will seem a little odd, but I would really appreciate it if there was a cousrses output. A calendar, if you will, like assignments that will keep schedule of the recurring courses...

Syllabus?

First of all, LOVE the app! I use it more than almost any other app. Thank you!

I would really appreciate if there was some way to include a class syllabus on the courses tab. Currently, I've had to try to copy and paste everything (which of course ends up in weird formatting) into the Books page under the reading tab, which is just messy and doesn't really flow. In fact, an option to include attachments in courses and assignments, such as PDF or word documents, would be really great. I'd love to be able to hit a button that automatically opens the related documents.

Also, can you add an option to include a due date for readings? I like to use my calendar page where it lists all my assignments as a quick reference to know how much I have to do and planning, but it messes me up when I only see the worksheet due, for instance, and don't realize I need to account for reading time as well. Currently I've been inputting reading as it's own assignment, but this is kind of annoying and I do like the way the reading page is set up other than this one hiccup.

Advanced Grading

Hey,

Loving this thread. It helped me figure out the syncing problems I was having with my apple devices. But it would be wonderful if you had a dedicated FAQ or section how to section on your website (if you do have it, it isn't easy to find).

I have a suggestion about the advanced grading. I currently have about 4 tests in a subject and would love to just include them under the type 'test' instead of 'test1' or 'test2' etc. Could advanced grading be fixed to divide out the grades of everything that falls under that specific category ... ? Hopefully that made sense :)

and thank you for creating a great app which is also visually stunning :apple:

Sync issue

Can I get step by step instructions on how to sync iHomework from my macbook to my iPhone? When I click "sync" on my macbook it wants me to create a profile...and I'm not sure what that is and how that relates to my iPhone app. Thanks!

Hey everyone,

Seems like the "Session didn't go so well. Failed To" issue is showing up for some people:

1. I'm incredibly embarrassed that I forgot to click the "Wrap Text" button on the label so that the entire error message actually displays.

2. Also working on trying to identify what is causing the issue.

Even in this thread it seems to be happening with some people and not with others - since the post right about Ruffian says that syncing is working fine. It appears to be an issue with the desktop version (which would be better since I can update that faster), but I'm still working on it.

Does the mobile version appear to be searching correctly? It should display the "Searching for iHomework sessions..." and the activity indicator should be spinning.

The profile is created so that when you first sync with your phone you're forced to enter your password. This is to prevent someone else from pushing data to your phone or Mac without you knowing it.

Create a profile name and password on the Mac app. When you click save, a session will begin. On your phone, tap the Sync button. When your see your profile name listed you can tap it, enter your password, and iHomework will begin syncing. You should only have to enter your password once.

Just an FYI: we're going to start phasing out the WiFi sync in favor of iCloud. The iOS update released last week supports iCloud and the Mac update (submitted on the same day) is still in review. We're not getting rid of it yet, but our efforts from now on will focus on improving iCloud syncing as opposed to WiFi syncing.

Hope that helps!

Sync problems

I click Wifi Sync on my computer and on my Iphone, Then when my Iphone finds it, I click on my name, it says "Established a session with the server"and on the computer "the sesion has made a connection" but they both keep on loading forever and never end. What do I do?
