Update Status

Just wanted to post a quick screenshot of one of the features that will be added to the next mobile update and desktop update.

A calendar view will be added to the mobile version similar to the Calendar app on the iPhone. From the calendar view you can add new assignments or view/edit current ones. Right now it only displays assignments - I want to expand this to reminders and classes but may need to get this update out to fix some syncing issues.

The desktop update will allow you to attach files to assignments to keep organized. You can open the files by double clicking in the table. It will also provide a calendar option when choosing an assignment deadline.

The updates will also focus on fixing some syncing issues but I needed to add some new features since I know that syncing is not available for everyone.

Hey Paul, I tried to reset sync. It didn't work. Also, I realized that I now cannot add new assignments to the app because there is no category!

I'm going to try reinstalling the app than syncing with desktop.

Hey Zach - could you send me an email. I think because you're "newbie" I can't PM you.

There is another bug in 1.4 (mobile) and (1.0) desktop where if you sync before you've edited assignment types in the mobile version occasionally your assignment types will be erased on both - keeping you from being able to add assignments.

I found the problem and working on a fix for the desktop version that will fix/prevent this problem since I can quickly update that via the website.

Fixed it!

Ok, I fixed the bug! Reinstalled the app from iTunes, than synced 3 times with desktop. The third time, all of my assignments on desktop moved to ipod and all the types came back! Let's just hope it doesn't break again.

Hi. Just installed this app tonight, and am having a problem.

I downloaded it on my MBP and iPod, but when I go to sync the two, nothing happens. I registered using a simple 4 letter name and a 1 letter password, and when I click "Sync" it says "iHomework session started." When I go to the app on my iPod and click "Sync" in the app, it says its searching for available iHomework sessions, but nothing comes up, and the two just keep searching for each other. Help?

I don't know if this helps, but I cannot sync while I am on my school's secure network - it just searches constantly. If I am on wifi at home, I can sync no problem... could it possibly be something with your network? are you sure the computer and ipod are on the same network?

and to the developer - do you have any ideas on this? I understand that it just might be the network as I cannot get my gmail on my laptop or iphone while at school either, it won't download (unless i sign on the internet and go to google.com...) but Im curious anyways ;-)

Also, for the desktop client, any chance tabbing will work with the drop down menus? and sorting by date / class / etc.
would it also be possible to chose colors for the mobile version - unless this can already be done and I just don't know how, I'd like to make all my assignments color coded by class (I think as it is they are color coded as they are due)

Still one of my very favorite apps!!

Oh, I did not realize it was wireless syncing. I was trying to sync with the USB cable. silly me. But after connecting to the same server on both the MBP and the iPod, the data transferred! :D Thanks!

iHomework uses Bonjour to broadcast sessions and to listen for active ones. It's very possible that your school's network is firewalled so that Bonjour isn't broadcasting correctly.

Sorry I haven't been around recently - just gotten a little crazy with projects and homeworks. If only I had some app to keep track of them... :p

Always looking for ways to improve the desktop app and the way you interact with it. Part of the problem is I'm still getting used to developing for Mac OS - I never did it before this app. Being able to sort the lists by different columns is a must (I think) and it's something I hope to add.

Tabbing through editing an assignment is something I'm still working on. The trouble is validating the combo box when you select a type or course. I think this is probably something easy to do but I'm having some trouble with it. If anyone knows a little Cocoa programming and would be willing to help me with it I'm always open for some advice!

There is an update to the mobile version (1.4.1) and desktop version (1.1) that I'm getting very close to submitting. Most likely I'll also release a (1.1.1) update to the desktop version as soon as the mobile version is approved. I have the desktop version set up to be able to add/edit/delete assignment types but the syncing code needs to be updated on the mobile side. Therefore I can't include it in the 1.1 update since I can release it before the mobile update is approved.

Also just wanted to point out that iHomework is featured in the new "Apps for Students" section on Apple.com. Saw the article on the front page of Macrumors so I rushed over to check it out :D

iHomework Desktop 1.1 Available

Hey everyone!

iHomework Desktop 1.1 is available at http://ihomework.pilone.org/Downloads.html

With it comes some new features and bug fixes:

- You can now attach files to assignments
- Completed drawer now displays all details
- Courses are sorted alphabetically (still working on custom sort)
- Fixed the disappearing assignment types bug
- New preferences (more to come).
- New updater framework so you can be automatically notified of a new update
- You can now show the main window using command+0 or Window->Show Main Window...
- You can use a calendar to pick an assignment due date (still working on making this easier).
- Better sync error handling
- Enforces the "16 character limit" for sync profiles (still working on fixing the real issue here)

I'll also be working on the mobile update (1.4.1) which should be ready pretty soon!

Just wanted to let everyone know that iHomework mobile version 1.4.1 was submitted tonight for App Store approval. It'll include a new calendar view and some bug fixes and such.

I should also have an update for the desktop version ready for when the mobile version is approved. One of the fixes in the mobile version was to allow for syncing of assignment types from the desktop version - so this feature will be added in the update to the desktop version.

Awesome! I've had iHomework for a lonnnng time now (probably since Spring 2009 started, or around that time) I can't wait for the calendar!

And any news on push notification? I sometimes get so caught up in other things that I forget to see what upcoming assignments I have.

Oh and could you possibly make this landscape compatible (or whatever it's called, lol)?
Plus, I completely agree about the tab specifically for reading!

Btw, love the desktop version as well! I did not know there was an update (1.1), I'll have to download that ASAP!

Love the calendar!

The calendar is an incredible addition and really makes iHomework an excellent application. However, could you please add the ability to sort the calendar view by class? Or by assignment type?

I've been using this app for a few months and so far it's been incredibly useful to me. The calendar is a really nice addition to it.

Could you PLEASE allow for copy / pasting stuff into the notes field in the desktop app? My teachers often send me assignments by email and it would be great if I could just paste in the details of the assignement from my computer when I get these emails, and then have it on hand on my phone in iHomework.

Lost All The Data

I bought this app because I have an insane amount of homework, book reports, tests, tons of papers. I needed something to organize my life. I got the app on my iphone and it didn't sync the data from my laptop. When i was asked to chose from: device, merge data an some other option. i chose device and it didn't work. So i tried to find a way to make another option like : merge data, and the desktop doesn't have it, it just doesn't allow me to make make a change. also the desktop program doesn't have the teachers option in it. I am a little frustrated . when i tried to reset the whole thing I lost all the data I ahve entered in the desktop program. It took me an hour just to enter all the data. can anybody help me figure this out?

by the way...all the data is still in ical..is there a way for me to recover that?

Great app

Just got this app, and I have to say it's really nice! One thing that was slightly annoying at first was the custom grade slider. I could always get close to the percentage I wanted, but never quite and had to adjust with the +/-. I was thinking that a dial like the date selection uses might be easier to work with. 4 columns, 3 for the 100, and then 1 for the decimal place.

Ultimately, that's quite a nitpick, but I actually just wanted to post here to add my voice to the people that would love to see a windows version of the desktop app. Hopefully you learned enough C# in your class last semester to make it a reality.

Also, thank you so much for the duplicate function, might have actually uninstalled the app if that hadn't been there. 10 quizzes that were identical except the date would have been very annoying otherwise.

Keep this app up, it's already very well made, and there is an endless base of users that will need something like this.

Scheduling Problems?

I had some issues with the block scheduling. The times keep on changing to be the same thing when I try and set a class time. Please improve. Other than that this app has helped me with grades and staying on top of school work! Thanks so much.

suggestions for desktop version

hey and thanks for a great application. I have not got an iphone yet but when I do I will def be using ihomework.

I have a couple of suggestions, I go to university in Australia and have been using schoolhouse on my macbook but I am not real sure if I like it. But they do have the option when you add your courses that you can create a folder for them to go in. I find that really good so I have a folder for each semester at uni and then have the 4 classes within the folder for that semester. Is this something that could possibly happen with ihomework?

2nd I noticed on the iphone version there is the grade calculator, will this also be added to the desktop version as I think it is really missing that sort of thing :)

I was almost ready to buy Schoolhouse but it looks like I'll be going with your iPhone and Mac desktop app instead. Great work.

Some suggestions, may or may not have already been mentioned:

I liked in school house how if you can enter your grades XX out of XX and it automatically calculates that percentage for you. And all your grades are tabulated together for the course to give you a course grade. Would love to see that incorporated into your app, unless maybe it already is and I missed it!

Also, any chance of a calendar view in addition to the list view currently available on the desktop app ?

Thanks!
