Here’s a suggestion. Get a big cardboard, cut one to the specific size of 11 inch iPad, and one to 12.9 inch iPad, see if that will help you feel what is acceptable to you.

I didn’t have any problems deciding what one to get, as soon the 12.9 came out with The 256gb hard drive, I immediately went and bought it. Best decision ever. then I upgraded to 2021 M1 mini led 12.9 inch, best decision ever. It’s smaller and lighter than my old iPad Pro. The smaller ipads screen size is too small for my personal enjoyment.

Some prefer small screen, some prefer bigger screen, and some prefer movie theatre screen size. Every individual person is unique in their preference. Chose what fits YOUR style/use/preference. :)
This cardboard won´t work as there is big difference in weight.

For consuming media in bed, 12.9. Larger screen, better blacks... seems like an easy choice. If you were using it for school and on the bus and what not then the smaller size might be favourable. But at home usage when it's likely being propped against something the 12.9 is the clear winner.

Don’t listen to us. We will only convince you to buy what we individually bought due to confirmation bias.
This. We can only give our personal opinions. Mine is that I got the 11 and then returned it for the 12.9 with no regrets. I use it mainly for consumption of browsing, watching etc. I also have the magic keyboard which works a treat with it.

The OP was asking about the different screen sizes. Bigger screen always has more weight than the smaller screen. I was thinking in terms of how they would hold the size of screen in various positions and seeing if the size makes a difference. Of course the weight is a factor, just sometimes we need to think about the actual width and height factor first, then worry about weight.

If you'll mainly be watching TV on it I would definitely recommend 12.9. Keep in mind you'll probably be watching content in 16.9 and the iPad Pro has a 4:3 display. Since it won't be using the full display you might find that the 11" display feels too small. Plus, I'd recommend a case that can prop the iPad up which should solve your potential issue with it being uncomfortable to hold.

I can watch YouTube on the 12.9 AND read the comments at the same time.
Split screen works nice as you can actually see what's happening.
Speakers are awesome.
Screen is beautiful.
Add keyboard and you are covered for most tasks.
If size of the 11 would be probably just get the 10.5 for $350 and save myself a lot of money.

The OP asked the question almost 12 hours ago and said he was buying it today. He has not commented since then although many people have responded. He has the luxury of being in a country with Apple Stores and the liberal return policy so he should buy one, try it and if not to his liking return it and buy the other size.

12.9 all the way if you watch lots of videos. During the day I use my iPad with magic keyboard for work and note taking. At night, I always wind down by watching movies / tv in bed - the 12.9 mini led screen is so good that I actually prefer watching content on my ipad than larger tv. 2021 vs 2020 is pretty drastic in a dark room - black bars are actually bright and you don't have to crank the brightness up like on the 2020 model to get the image to look good.

I’m still debating the merits of the 12.9 over the 11…either one will be “better” than my 9.7” iPad Pro…

Curious if the LCD issues seen on the 2020 models people are talking about is resolved in the 11” 2021 model (Black level, eye strain) or if the panel is exactly the same.

Reason is I can purchase the 5G version thru my carrier (pay half up front, device financed - done this before) but they only offer the 11”. And the Air 4.

If the display tech is that good in the 12.9 i will hold off to save up for the 12.9. Still have to see it in person.

But can't make my mind up which size to get, its driving me crazy ?
Will somebody please help me out.
It'll be mostly used for watching tv in work on a desk and again lying in bed at night time.
I love the idea of getting the bigger screen but thinking it may be uncomforable to hold whilst lying in bed.
I love my 11" with the keyboard it gets pretty heavy holding it in bed. And everything 12.9" is so much more expensive lol

Love that confirmation bios response. I went with 11" just because I have a 16" behemoth for my professional work and needed something as a quick extension for zoom/ms teams meetings + editing/publishing drone footage when on holidays, also with google maps I can use it as my navigator. My use cases are more mobile oriented/on the go so that lightweight and smaller surface area works better for me.

Ignore all advice and buy it and try it. Keep it if you like it, return it if you don't. Get both sizes if possible to see what suits you best. There's too much subjectivity in evaluation to go on what others are saying, one way or another.

12.9" can be heavy. 11" is portable.

If you are primarily going to use it at a desk, get the 12.9.

Apple has 14 day return policy. So you need not worry. In case you don't like the size, you can change it and get the other one.
Statements like that are hilarious to me. It's as if not even 2 extra inches of hardware suddenly makes a device unmovable!

I've had iPads of all different sizes and frankly, every single one of them has been just fine in the portability department when I grabbed them to go somewhere. And the difference between the 11-inch and 12.9 inch devices is only a half-pound.

I switched from the 10.5 Pro to the 12.9 and didn't find the size and weight deltas to be an issue at all.

11 for home / 13 for the desk

your use 11 all the way
But what if OP doesn't plan on watching a lot of HDR content? Realistically that's the primary use case of the XDR display. Otherwise it's wasted on scrolling web pages, emails, social media and even 95% of YouTube. It's a feature I've been waiting for, but I certainly wouldn't use it as a deciding factor unless you know you will make use of it.
The screen in the 12.9 makes all video, etc. look better than the standard iPad screens. Even non-HDR content benefits greatly from the vastly improved contrast abilities.

Because it's not! People get all wrapped up in a fantasy that somehow a screen that is only 2-inches smaller in a device that weighs a half-pound less is somehow a "superhero of portability" compared to the other one...which is insane.

Some people act as if we are comparing the portability of a tablet and a full-size desktop computer!

I'm not saying there's "no difference" between the two, but you can and will adapt, either way. When I went from the 10.5 to the 2018 12.9, that thing seemed MASSIVE. Within a short time, I got used to it and it felt normal. I recently downsized from the 12.9 to the 11, and it seemed tiny at first, but now seems normal. The other day I picked up my old iPhone 4 (my kid uses it as a non-phone now), and I couldn't believe how tiny it was!

But back to iPads, one legitimate concern is that the 12.9 hurts a bit more than the 11 when it falls on your face when you doze off while reading in bed. :)

What LCD issues on the 2020 models? I use a 2020 IPP for hours on a daily basis, I haven’t noticed any issues. The screen is flawless.

I'm legit curious to know what SP users think of the product.
Well, I have used the Surface Pro across three generations. My intent was to use it both as a laptop and as a tablet. As a laptop, it was excellent though, I was not really happy about the battery life. As a tablet - if I leave aside the app situation, which, frankly, did not bother me much given my use case - it was less than ideal. The main reason for this was/is the aspect ratio.

Would I go back to the Surface Pro? No, though I do have the last one that I used as my main machine. My current device spread is ideal for me at the moment and I don’t want to disturb that.
