If you'll mainly be watching TV on it I would definitely recommend 12.9. Keep in mind you'll probably be watching content in 16.9 and the iPad Pro has a 4:3 display. Since it won't be using the full display you might find that the 11" display feels too small. Plus, I'd recommend a case that can prop the iPad up which should solve your potential issue with it being uncomfortable to hold.
The 12.9 iPad Pro has a 1.33:1 aspect ratio (ie wider-in-portrait and taller-in-landscape). The 11-inch iPad Pro has a 1.43:1 aspect ratio (ie narrower-in-portrait and wider-in-landscape…smaller black bars on top and bottom when watching movies). If Apple had updated the display on the 11 inch with mini LCD…I’d be all for replacing my 11 inch 2018 IPP. I’m waiting another year to see what happens.

Statements like that are hilarious to me. It's as if not even 2 extra inches of hardware suddenly makes a device unmovable!

I've had iPads of all different sizes and frankly, every single one of them has been just fine in the portability department when I grabbed them to go somewhere. And the difference between the 11-inch and 12.9 inch devices is only a half-pound.

Because it's not! People get all wrapped up in a fantasy that somehow a screen that is only 2-inches smaller in a device that weighs a half-pound less is somehow a "superhero of portability" compared to the other one...which is insane.

Some people act as if we are comparing the portability of a tablet and a full-size desktop computer!
So why do you think Apple make two sizes of the same product with different screen dimensions? Why havent all the ipads changed to 12.9" dimensions?

There is a denial from the 12.9" crowd that there is a difference between the two devices in usability. Because the larger ipad weighs more and it is wider and taller you have to hold it differently - there is a big difference in balance. If you try to hold it in one hand you can feel the weight shift away from you. Also with a taller screen you have further to move you arms/hands.

They genuinely feel different in hand and alot of people don't appreciate the extra weight or size - no matter how much others think it's only a little extra. And this is why you have choices, because Apple know this.

I went with the 12.9” this time and I could not be happier (ok I could be happier if it didn’t cost me $1700 CDN after trade in ) :)

I'm legit curious to know what SP users think of the product.

I've used the SP since the first one and it is a good productivity device and a great touch screen PC. Great if you need to run desktop versions of Microsoft Office.

The iPad is an awesome tablet and holds its own for the creativity uses, media consumption, etc. Both are good in their own ways and there is nothing wrong in liking one over the other because everyone has different needs.

I find my SP7 and 12.9 Pro complement each other, each with their own strengths and weaknesses which the other can compensate for. My own usage is probably 90% SP7, 10% iPP, a major reason being that in general I prefer a larger 4K monitor, which my SP7 is connected to.

LOL. You had iPads all different sizes but did you try both 11” and 12.9”? Because I have and the difference is MASSIVE in size and weight. 11” is like iPad Mini against 12.9”. Sometimes I am missing this small size because it was super portable but 12.9” is quite heavy when you hold it on sofa or when you are taking notes on personal meetings. So do not behave like this. And if you had both, then it is still only your SUBJECTIVE opinion as mine is. But mine opinion is based on experience with both iPad Pros and these 2inches are big difference.

I have the 10.5 and the 2021 12.9 and don't find the size or weight of the 12.9 to be an issue no matter how I use it. But as you say, it's all just subjective opinion and what is an issue for one may not be for another.

10,5” is not 11” Pro. But put on both iPads screenshield and folio case and then we can talk how is it comfortable.
For me heaving 11” was like heaving Air 2 but little bit faster and more RAM ?

I use a Zugu case on both. Perfectly comfortable for me.

Yes, they feel different...because of course, they are a bit different! The insanity, though, is suggesting that there is a massive difference in overall portability - Because there is not!

And this statement is hilarious to me: "Also with a taller screen you have further to move you arms/hands."

LOL...Come on, man. You're not being asked to scroll your finger along a device that's the size of a football field. They're iPads! And the difference is a couple of inches.

Yes, I've used both. And no, it's not a big difference in terms of portability. If two inches and a half-pound is going to suddenly make something awkward and/or too heavy for you...then it's time to seek out a personal trainer for some physical conditioning work.

I Personally went for the 12.9 just for the more luxurious paper space for sketching and then more space for multitasking.

I use mine sat on the desk all day though.

I'm legit curious to know what SP users think of the product.
Apple and Microsoft quality control is leagues apart! I’ve been lured by various surface pro devices over the years (3-4 devices) and each one has had pretty severe hardware and software issues. All of the, end up being more hassle than they’re worth and I’d get a Dell 1000x over another Microsoft device if I needed windows. SP is also a horrendous tablet now that Windows 10 has stripped all the tablet UI from the old Windows 8.

Yeah, but your experience with MS hardware is hardly a yardstick to measure anything by. Should we assume that the numerous threads about iPads bending, white spots etc are reflective of bad QC on Apple’s part? I wouldn’t as accounts like yours and those of the threads I referred to are merely a microcosm of the real number of users.

i am an 11 user, I use my iPad and travel with it frequently. However for your use case, I’d say the 12.

But can't make my mind up which size to get, its driving me crazy ?
Will somebody please help me out.
It'll be mostly used for watching tv in work on a desk and again lying in bed at night time.
I love the idea of getting the bigger screen but thinking it may be uncomforable to hold whilst lying in bed.
You bought a new iPad Pro on Friday if your original post was correct. After many people took the time to offer advice and opinions and good information it would be fair to let us know what size you purchased.

Yawn...this comment has been made so many times, it wasn't funny or factual the first time. Your stuck on one side of the "discussion" unwilling to see for others the 12.9" is too big and heavy in use and/or portability. In your opinion there is no difference, noted.

Hi everyone thanks for all of the replys, I did read every one one of them.
As the vast majority of people recommended the 12.9 that's exactly what I went for.
I've already adjusted to the larger screen size and believe I've absolutely made the right decision.
So I'm now the proud owner of a new iPad Pro 12.9 in Space Grey

Late to the discussion, IMO, no iPad (maybe except the Mini) is for 1 hand holding for extended periods of time. Size would only matter to me if I wanted to travel light with small sized backpack. Think you made the right call.

Then it shouldn’t be hard at all for you. I’m NOT in great physical shape and while the 12.9 took a few days to get used to, I use it now exactly how I used my 10.5 IPad. The difference just doesn’t seem significant to me.

It is not "hard", it is just different experience. With 12.9” I never write notes on meetings as ut is huge as notebook and is it more table device than portable 11”
