They’re competing against themselves. Not sure if I posted the links here or in the other thread but users, tech reviewers, bloggers you name it ... are now saying that the 329 iPad with pencil is all you need. There’s strong arguments (price for one) that will make people choose the cheap version over an iPad Pro. Human nature wants something new and shiny and a redesigned IPP , edge to edge, improved pencil and better Smart Keyboard lays out a reason to splurge.

I don’t see Apple simply sitting around leaving that much money on the table if a large majority of iPad buyers are now buying the basic student edition over the more expensive (add smart accessories too) IPP.

They’re also positioning the top end models as laptop replacements. Fine, there’s an argument to be made that instead of an IPP people will buy a MB/MBP instead but that line has serious issues at the moment and typically, someone who wants an IPP wants a touch experience not a traditional clamshell.

Let’s see what happens. Personally I can’t even imagine an update or redesign on hold until 2019. It effectively stalls the 10.3/12.9 IPP line for 9 months.

Definitely a gamble. If you’re lucky they announce on Monday with a shipping date later in the year. If not, you’re playing the same guessing game we all are and will have to either go with your gut or roll the dice. How about returning the one you have and picking up a used gen 1? That’ll tide you over even upto March 19 worst case scenario and the resale hit won’t be that bad.

Well, I went and returned my iPad Pro 12.9 yesterday anyway ... I figured I'd just wait for the possible next level version whenever that comes!
