“Most” is relative. I believe that we forget the failures and remember only the good things. And there has been many.
Rather have the options for these features to use them than be given no option at all. It's down to the user if they find them useful or not. If not then simple don't use them.

Apple don't give you the choice. That's the difference

Like Force Touch (actual hardware) being removed from iPhones because they finally realized long pressing would do the same thing that Android has done for years?

Crazy that what should be considered a "standard"-sized iPhone has to be relegated to a "mini" descriptor, but I guess phablets are the new normal.

I put the weather widget on my wife's XR she deleted it lol. She said i want apps not that thing there.
I think the chuckle is on the OP, not everyone likes or wants them anyway :)

Typical mindless ani-Apple, pro-Android sentiment right here. Feeling A little hurt, jealous, I have no idea. But something cuts deep with you. Nothing based in fact with your post, just an oversimplified broad generalization based on nothing factual. I don’t even use iOS an iPhone (almost 4 years now) and even I know what you’re saying is trash. And they did have widgets just to have some fact-based content. It had widgets, It was just on a separate screen.

LMAO is right.
Calling a spade a spade. Just the facts. Nuff said.

Well, i use widgets. I dont use a lot of them as i dont need a widget for everything but some i find very useful. I suppose its cool and about time iOS got them but it sure seems like a process to move thing around compared to Android where it is a lot easier and a lot less steps.
I suppose iOS will work that out down the road. Probably a few years down the road as they are slow to adapt to things. iOS is years behind Android in regards to customizing. Cant stand the cluttered screens with big icons.

Even if it is a long process, at least they can make a home page now.

You can believe the apple marketing about privacy all you like but no company is any different in this area. Apple believe it or not listen in too

Touch ID? You mean the one that's under the display which apple are yet to do?

Sounds like you are struggling for features if you are mentioning a Web browser.. There's many web browsers people can use so I hardly think ad blockers is worth mentioning

As for face ID as good as it is under display FPS are far more convenient certainly in the times of masks...

Apple make great products but there's not much android users are missing.
There is a Ad blocker in Chrome. Its in Site settings.

I have a Pixel 4a and one thing i really like on it is the screen calls button. I get so many spammers calling. I can just either do nothing and not answer or use the screen call feature and it sends the caller a message.

Not sure if it is just a text type message or a voice message since im the one screening but it shows what it sends on my end. They usually hang up. Sometimes they respond lol.

I never really liked pure Android before but i do like it a lot better on this Pixel as they added some features i didnt have before when i had a Nexus 5.

Face unlock....i dont care about that....especially with this mask thing going on. I use the fingerprint feature which works very fast on the 4a.

Come on mate, don't be that person.

I can interact with my Apple Music widget on my iPad perfectly fine and there are three sizes to choose from.

As much as I'm enjoying my return to Android, there's no denying that the Apple Widgets cosmetically are better than the Android versions. And given Apple has made a bunch of good looking widgets for their Android app, my point still stands - either the developers for the apps on Android don't care at this point and if they do, they're being lazy about pushing out updates for them.
Cosmetically? LOL, so its getting down to that? How beautiful doe's your music widget need to be? I dont even use a music widget, i just use my earbuds.
I see this cosmetic argument a lot for iOS. Seems pretty lame to me. Ive never looked at my Wifes iPad and thought...wow, how beautiful are those?

Weird how these arguments go. I just use what i like and i just dont like iOS as well as Android.

With iOS 14 you still can't drag an app icon towards the bottom of the screen, and place the app right above the dock. LOL come on Apple.

And these themes aren't real themes, you need to use the Shortcuts app to fake this new theme method. So every time you click the app it runs shortcuts for a second first, before going into the app. Come on Apple, just allow full on theming already.

I don't use widgets on my Android phone and surly, not on the iPhone, they're just bad in some cases. If I have a 5 apps on one screen and two widgets on the iPhone, I can't align the two widgets to be aligned next to each other. One will be higher up next to the 5th app on the second down and the other widget will be on the left further down.

Yes, cosmetically. I don't think there is anything wrong in wanting the design elements of a device you use on a daily basis to look appealing. And that includes the UI.

I come from a graphic design background so I can appreciate those types of things. If that's "lame" as you eloquently put it, then so be it.

TBF, they only care about it now that it's on iOS. I'm the same way... early on, I was in the iOS ecosystem via an iPod Touch. Even though they used the same iOS (for the most part), I completely ignored or disregarded news about iPhones and iPads since there were features that weren't applicable to the IpT. Later on, I mostly stopped actively following iOS news.

Oh, still annoyed to see that you can't arrange app icons without having to fill them in from the top, left-to-right. I learned to pad the top of the home screen to push icons down for easy accessibility, but it'd be nice to not have to resort to that.

Won't be surprised if apple bans it on shortcuts next

It's gained too much traction now. They'll embrace it fully I think, remove the need to pass through shortcuts, and encourage the creation of icon packs to be sold on the app store... something Android has had for years and years.

We can only wish and hope so. if that happens is that still going to be in iOS 14 or not until 15?

at iOS users falling out of their chairs now that they can add widgets, change app icons, and just generally theme their phones how they want. It makes me laugh since this has been a thing on Android since the beginning, and after hearing all of these years that they didn't need those things.

I'm not at all looking to start an Android vs Apple war, ever. I saw the MR article on the front page, and I just needed to post/say this in (what I think is) a safe space.

It's actually fascinating to me that iOS14 widgets are a step backwards in many ways, this will become apparent the more 3rd party widgets we see with the new developer guidelines. Certainly many of the first party widgets are a step backwards, the News widget comes to mind, but also the stocks widget, battery widget, etc.

I also weirdly grew accustomed and grew to prefer widgets all on one page like iOS13 had. What I liked most was being able to scroll through all my widgets. In iOS14 (and Android) I find I have to keep adding more and more home screens to fit in all my widgets, making for a more cluttered setup. In iOS13 it just all seemed to clean and neat and easy to access. I really wish Android had the option to make a home screen scroll vertically.

It feels like an iOS 15 thing. They might be motivated to do it in a point release though for the sales cut. Lets hope for the latter, because using shortcuts to simply launch apps is nasty.
They better bring spilt screen to iPhone next year

You can still add widgets to that left side panel in iOS 14–they don’t have to be on the home screens.

Yep, but no such option on Android.

Yeah. Just wanted to clarify as it sounded like you thought widgets on iOS 14 had to be added to just the home screens.

I'm a big fan of the widgets in that left panel too as they're accessible just by pulling down the notification panel and swiping left. But I also don't like how the new widgets are comparatively gimped vs. the old style of widgets. I have to be careful not to update a couple of apps whose previous widgets I rely on daily.
