sorry I wasn't laughing at what you were using, I don't upgrade too frequently either. I AM laughing, however, because you expect Apple to go through probably a lot of trouble supporting mac os ox 9. That's just too far back.

It also happens that this B&W G3 seating on my desk impresses more my friends than my normal MacMini

As far as I knew, Mac Mini's came with Tiger. So your not trying to sue Apple for incompatibility, your trying to sue because your other, older Mac OS 9 computer is even more outdated by MobileMe.

This reminds me of a person who is pushing on a door marked pull. No matter how hard they push, the door is not going to open.

Granted the OP is in Brussels and there are different laws there, but I don't think this lawsuit will get past the clerk's desk.

While I agree that a class action lawsuit for missing 2 weeks of service is pretty weak, I'm not sure why people paying good money for the NEW service should quietly sit by and say nothing. Apple rushed a shoddy product out the door, has had inexcusable down time, is playing semantic games with what push really means, and is now backpedaling on supporting Outlook if Exchange is in the loop. So no, I don't think people need to chill the F out. They are frustrated and you can comment about people whining all you want, but that just makes you look like one of those Apple can do no wrong fanbois.

Thanks richpjr,

As you say people (customers paying good money) are frustrated.

My concern is just about consumers rights and apparently, marketing.

As I said in another post:
"I am NOT the only .mac customer who feel the same, this is the problem.
If it was only myself being rip off 8 Euros for 2 weeks loss of service, I wouldn't be here losing my time and yours.
There are hundred of thousand of families and professionnals using .mac who are in the same or worst position than me."

OK, Apple is the VERY BEST company in the universe, but they just didn't think about just one tiny little thing, customer satisfaction & market segmentation:

As I said in another post
"It was possible for Apple to give 2 simple options for their band of fan / customers:
1/ one good old simple .mac as usual they can use on their old Macs for their webmail, no hassle.
2/ a brand new trendy "Mobile me" thing they can use with their brand new mac + iphone etc.... maybe at a different."

Apple is the best at marketing and sell MacMinis for people like me and Mac Pro for professionals like most of you.
Some customers just do not need and want the new cool "mobile me" features right now and would have like to evolve quietly to mobile me in the future.
(i'm just one of them, should I be insulted by the "Apple lovers community" for that and having an OS9 ??? ;))

It was not rocket science for Apple to offer 2 different services ??? was it ? and I am shure it is still possible to offer this.

In the jolly world of "Apple hugging" ;) there is lot of segregation, finger pointing, arrogance and lecturing... very open minded people,:(

Thanks richpjr for the help and giving us some fresh air and a reasonable point of view. :)

Signed:
an ex "Apple fanboy" (like arkitect says;))

it wouldn't have been feasible to keep up .mac AND mobile me.
a) that would require more servers, more trouble, more pain.
b) .mac never was a complete working service. It had problems.
c) though it is currently buggy, mobile me is/will be a better version of .mac.

Please read my other posts:
We've got 6 Apple computers at home.
I don't mind about the OS9, and my Mac mini about ok.

My wife's an iMac running on OSX 10.3.9 (and loads of .mac customers still run on OS 10.2 etc...)

and, No i don't mind about doing money in a court,
And NO i do not want "to sue them because they stopped .mac, replacing it with a free upgrade to mobile me" as you say
Because Mobile me is NOT an "upgrade" it is a new AND different product than .mac with different features look etc... whatever you think.
even the name IS different, isn't it?

And oups I've already paid for my .mac... (like millions of others)

But I presume you're only being "funny" or sarcastic...
So, Ah, Ah,Ah thanks for all your funny jokes ;)
It helps.

Thanks for the insight, you are very informed. But I still think a clever company like Apple could have done it easily.

Surprisingly, the first webmail I subscribed to (pair.com) which came with my hosting is still run very well with my OS 9.

But if you really read my post, you'll notice that I didn't compaint at any moment about Apple not being able to support OS9 even if it could.

I spoke about my OS9 because YOU raised YORSELF the point my friend...
Is it intended ? to make sure people think i'm a dumb guy who just want support for OS9...

please find other tactics, or just read my posts

I don't think anyone is trying to make you look dumb..
But you really are flogging a very dead horse here.

You keep returning and beating the poor dead animal with a branch like some deranged Basil Fawlty type.

Just get on with your "Class action" and then get back here and let us know…

Good luck, Bonne chance, Veel geluk… or whatever is appropriate in your case. ;)

Many of your points are legitimate complaints. Many of us are having frustrating problems and disappointments with the service. I just signed up last week as .mac never appealed to me. After watching the demo of the iPhone/MobileMe integration, I was sold. It's still not working anwhere close to the way it was shown, at least for me. I am very disappointed and don't think it's worth 100 bucks if the problems persist.

However...

I doubt online threats of legal action have much influence on fixing the problem. It just comes off as reactionary. It's only been a week or two since it was rolled out and, since it was simultaneous with the new iPhone launch, it probably got tons of new subscribers in one overwhelming blast that choked it.

I don't see how Apple can expect someone like me or you to pay with our current problems so I'm pretty confident they'll get it working smoothly. In the meantime, my opinion is it's best to let them know politely and concisely that you're having problems. That does not include threats of legal action.

Is that why you complain about calendar subscriptions on mobileme here? https://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=5832818#post5832818

And complained about Leopard Mail here? https://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=5264256#post5264256

If people want to tell others to stop complaining, please stop any sort of complaining from yourselves first

That is the annoying part. Being told to be quiet as the other person continues to complain in other threads

Mr. Demi-God:

Those were not complaints. Did I say "I hate Apple" or "Let's sue Apple?"

No.

I was simply sharing my experience.

There is a huge difference, and it's not semantics. And yes, all the "Apple screwed me" crowd should ****. It will get fixed.

Uncle Walt's latest WSJ explains the situation very well. MobileMe is in rough shape and isn't recommended til it's fixed. As for using OS9 and whining... lol

Why do you see MobileMe as a new product? All it is is .Mac with a facelift and a few extra features. Everything that you could do in .Mac hasn't changed at all. If it isn't working properly, you most likely haven't done something right. People have tried to help you, but you seem so keen on big talk on suing Apple.

As for using OS9...why?! Anything that you need surely you can get for Leopard, unless you are using really outdated hardware/software, back from the dark ages..

My response might offend some people here but here we go:

If you really do not want to PAY FOR OS Upgrade, you can always find a friend who uses Tiger or Leopard and install their copy. I'd rather do THAT than complaining here or launching a class action lawsuit that you will most probably lose.

I can't fathom why YOU INSIST to use OS 9 when you know that neither Tiger nor Leopard has some sort of "activation" like windows. This means you can always borrow your friend's Tiger/Leopard and install it in your machine.

But that's just my 2 cents...

If you really have no friend who uses OS X, the "internet" might be able to help as well... but this is for another discussion.

Look, I'm probably as angry as anyone about this...

Unlike most people trying this, I actually NEED these features badly. I wanted it to work. But actual damages - NONE.

Personally, the only thing I hate worse than shoddy engineering, is opportunistic lawyers, feeding off others for a fast buck. Now, if the shoe doesn't happen to fit in this case, take what I said at face value.

This is NOT what we need.

The truly angry should do what I did - cancel your account.

If they ever get it ironed out, I'll try it again.

Ha ha ha !

When you bought your PS1 in 1994 you obviously couldn't buy PS3 games AND
more importantly: Your PS1 games didn't stop to work on your PS1 when Sony launched the PS2 and you can still buy PS1 games... and have fun.

When I subscribed to .mac the OS requirement was:
=> Apple MacOS X 10.3.9 or later (and it worked well with OS9 and was happy whit this)
check by yourself:
file:///Volumes/MacMini%20Maxtor/Users/Shared/*01%20FAMILYs'%20Shared%20Folder/08%20ACHATS%20&%20SUPPLIERS/06%20ELECTRONIC/00%20APPLE/dot%20Mac/Amazon.co.uk:%20.Mac:%20Software.webarchive

Today with Mobile me the requirements are :
=>Mac OS X v10.4.11 or latest version of Mac OS X Leopard; Safari 3, Firefox 2, or later
check by yourself:
http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MB611Z-...sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1216900246&sr=8-1

Do you understand what a termination clause does? Apple ended .mac, the service you signed up for. It worked until it ceased to exist. Full stop. Consider Mobile Me to be a completely different service with some of the old features and some new ones, with new system requirements, etc.

And before you decide to slam me as a Mac fanboy, please help me find a Mac in my house. I'd love to discover one. No iPhones either. Just a couple of iPod Videos.

I want my money back if they don't fix this crap.

I keep sending emails to Apple support about my problems, and have not got any thing back. I have try to sync my contacts, bookmarks, and keep getting error messages. I can't get anything to work right, incoming Email is working only about 50% of the time, outgoing email takes forever to get a contact in the to address line cut and paste no longer works in Email. The list goes on forever. Running OSX 10.4.11 God I hope there is a 10.4.12 coming soon.

I might as well by a PC if I want this Kind of crap. Count me in on a class action suite!

how freaking absurd.

I had to buy an entirely new MAC to upgrade my OS to 10.5.4.

Should I sue?

I needed a faster chip speed to run certain programs.

Should I sue?

Seriously.

What a cry baby.

Your best bet if you have specific questions is to try their online chat during business hours BUT be prepared to wait 2-3 hours during peak times and 1 hour even during the early morning
