lol...I'll get the 64Gb one when it comes out too....but 3+ years it takes to happen, I'll use my 8Gb iPhone.

I'm with you, Don. The iPhone is amazing -- no contest. But just as Mac Portable was amazing, it wasn't until the Powerbook 100 that many folks felt a luggable Mac was worth the expense.

I could only stomach the first page of typically juvenile replies to your post. But even in that short amount of time, I didn't see any hard numbers backing up their rejection of your prediction. (*Waits for moderator to give him a "point" for "insulting the intelligence of other users"*)

So, as David Brancaccio used to say, "let's do the numbers!"

By that rate of growth in iPod storage expansion, and without accounting for subtle variables like, oh, say, Apple's overall plan for the iPhone, iPod sales, competition, the iPhone's success, Steve Job's whims, the state of the industry, et. al., I think it's safe to fart out at least a 30giger by 2009. A little below your forecast, but certainly not the paltry 8gigs everyone here seems to think is "just fine for a phone"...

... who says Apple thinks the iPhone is just a phone? Hmm..

Me, I'm happy with my Samsung Blackjack, which tethers to my Powerbook G3 Lombard quite well! But I'm just an old man.

Cheers!

In April Samsung announced 16bg and 32gb nand. The 16 is to be available in the market q42007. The 32 will be available early 2008. Several financial analysists have stated that there will be higher capacity iPhones available before Christmas and even higher iphones in 2008 (when there will also be a v2). So everybody predicting long waits for capacity is wrong. It already exists. I bet there is a 64gb iphone out before the end of 2008.

I bet the next update with the iPhone it will jump to 8gb and 16gb.

A 16gb phone is what I want. Good thing I'm in Canada and by the time the iPhone gets here there will be a second version :) I don't feel as bad waiting.

Fine.

Wait.

This thing is saving me and enbabling me so much, the ROI on this phone for me will be sometime this fall.

Keep in mind they do not sync with the regular calendar year. By your statement 16gb will be out betwen now and the end of next month, whereas the 32 will be available by the end of December (if I take read your 2008 as q1 since you said q42007).

q4 2007 means oct, nov, dec 2007. I am talking calendar year, not fiscal year (which has become so nonstandardized between businesses that it is rarely refered to in any general sense). Not Chinese year either. Good old USofA year that starts when the ball drops in Times Square.

If this happens, I would think that it would need the stores before Thanksgiving in order to be a big seller.
