Honestly my plan was to get rid of the Mac Pro and just keep the iMac. I agree, Navi seems to be giving Apple fits.

The iMac does offer much more performance for the money but the Mac Pro is better in every other respect. The inability to easily open up the iMac and its compromised thermals are major drawbacks to me.

Guys I'm facing a new problem with  imac 2020. I can't return it, I initiated a refund on September 7 because of the problems I noticed and the fact that I am not satisfied with it and I consider it a marriage. Apple accepted the application. The Imac was purchased on a promotion for education - airpods were a gift,. So I received the return Number for airpods on September 8, but there is nothing for the Imac a week later. I called two more times and tried to find out the reason, they said that there was some kind of system failure, and so they can't do it yet, and they can't clearly answer when-what nonsense?! I want my money back! By the way, I never received an invoice for Imac-which was delivered to me on September 1, it's been 13 days ! This is simply Impossible, just a terrible service, it feels like Apple is doing all this on purpose, finding reasons to create extra problems for the buyer! I do not know what to do, now I need lawyers or a court to do what I have the right under the law? What the **** ! Who has experienced this attitude?

you need to get a grip, they will refund you.

100% agree on the thermal front. That’s something else that drives me crazy about the single fan iMac. That baby runs HOT! The Mac Pro barely ever hits 40c! Dead silent too. I also love being able to open the case and get inside. IMHO Apple nailed this design. It’s a gorgeous work of art. Ridiculously expensive, but incredible otherwise.

I see in the poll we have people with the other GPU options seeing the flicker. Not as many as the 5700XT but maybe that is because of the threads title.

So is scaling the display to 2048 x 1152 still one of the workarounds? I know it's not a fix, but it seems like the most sensible thing for people to do for now. After you resize the dock, desktop and folder icons to your liking (presumably smaller) is there really that much of a difference? Doesn't scaling just impact the text, icon, and window sizes? You should still be able to see photos and videos in their full resolutions.

Again, I know it's not ideal and this is something Apple / AMD need to fix, but I'm scaled to 2048 and I've yet to see any glitches after setup.

This isn't aimed at you but I really don't understand why anyone would return a machine that is improving your productivity and reverting to a machine that is barely usable because of a GPU glitch that is not affecting you use of the machine. Yes its an annoying bug but my assumption is people bought these machines to get work done not to just look at and complain about (they have barely changed the design in 10 years).
Largely I agree. I don’t plan to keep using my 2011. Apart from the GPU issue that plagued that machine it was a beast that got me through 9 years of use. By comparison this GPU issue is minor at this point and doesn’t impact my productivity. But this is a hobby machine for me not one I’m using to generate profits at this point. I used my 2011 as long as possible before upgrading and have spent months figuring out what I wanted to purchase. My baseline expectations of this machine would be that I could use it for at least half a decade without issue. So while no plans to return, I would like a fix to this issue for an otherwise wonderful system.

I think we would all like a fix for this issue. I am hoping to get more than 5 years out of mine.

I use my machine for everything including my day job (thanks to Covid-19).

I’d like I get 9 years out of mine again. Just balanced against the silicon transition and might get a laptop once they get past the transition jump a few years from now.

I think you have an exaggerated view of how great Apple was when Steve ran it. You seem to be forgetting Antenna Gate for example.

"It Just Works" was a marketing slogan, like Google's "Don't be evil".
I don't seem to be forgetting anything. It's a curse, really. And of course it was a marketing slogan. But what difference does that make? "It just works" was rooted in actual truth back when every other piece of technology just did not. My point was simply: we have moved really far away from that reality. Steve or no Steve. And it's simply disappointing.

yes, I immediately noticed the 2019 model in the top quieter than 2020.one fan is clearly not enough for these processors

My 2nd iMac is in the box sitting in the front room waiting for FedEx to pick it up tomorrow. I also have a 2019 Mac Pro. Had the 5700 card in that and it also has issues so I’ve switched to a Vega II.

I guess there’s something to be said for more mature ‘older tech’. I’ll take stability over cutting edge any day. I wouldn’t call the 5700 GPU ‘cutting edge’ seeing as it has been out for quite awhile. But apparently between AMD and Apple their engineers can’t seem to get the bugs ironed out.

I'm confused, just last week you were asking the Mac Pro forum if anyone was having similar issues to the iMac issues with the W5700X GPU, now you are saying you have that computer but upgraded the card because of these issues already? Do you even have the iMac?

Are you serious?! LMAO ? I was asking other people to see if they too have had issues. And yes, I already had both machines and ordered the Vega II immediately when it became obvious that it was the most stable solution. Why am I even explaining myself to you anyway?! What’s the point of your post, to try and call someone out because you have some conspiracy theory that they don’t even have the machines they are talking about? Talk about downright creepy and totally trolling. Do I need to post photos to prove myself to you? Wow ? ! ????

Just had an 'interesting' effect when I woke the machine from sleep this morning: The left half of the display came to life first, with the right side remaining black for about half a second. Someone posted a similar issue a couple of weeks ago, so it's not limited to that specific computer.

Just ordered a W5700X. Now I am concerned...
I agree completely. The question is how long should it take to work out the kinks of the 5700? People are having issues with the 5700 XT and the 2020 iMac too. What’s the deal with this GPU?
So the solution here is buy the Vega II card...?

I didn't mind the other resolution either.

My bad, was just curious. My apologies.
I accept your apology, but why would you personally seek out to troll someone like that? It’s extremely paranoid and downright rude. Nothing better to do with your time? What would be my incentive to ‘pretend’ to have machines I don’t? I just don’t get it at all. Why would anyone ever do that? What would be the point?

I wasn't intending to troll you, I have the W5700X GPU and have been following the issues on the Mac Pro side, where I saw you asking about it over there, saying you had just ordered on Tuesday, and then linked this thread. So I was reading this thread about the issues on the iMac side and I remembered your post saying you just ordered, and over here saying you already have the computer and upgraded the GPU already. It didn't make sense to me so I was curious, hence my question. But I apologize for being wrong.

I can’t stand having ANY graphical issues with my machines so I act FAST! I’m obsessed with perfection. I know it’s not attainable, but I can’t help trying. Especially when we are talking about computers costing north of $4k.
