[…] also 2020 fan is WAY louder at idle (1200 rpm) than 2015 model it's replacing, but I expected that and will have to learn to live with it if I want the 2x CPU&GPU performance increase...
I also had a 2015 and that is 100% true. Just browsing around the web my 2015 was imperceptible to the ear. This new 2020 machine does have a constant hum. I agree about the sacrifice being worth the trade off; Handbrake encoding HEVC video is over twice as fast from my initial testing.

My Brain. It hurts.

I still have the weird color changing glitch when I log in. Seems like a white veil over the screen for a few and then it snaps back to the correct saturation.

I started another thread about this here, don't know if what you’re seeing is the same issue or not. Toggling True tone on and off snaps it back for me.

Here is my experience with the iMac 27inch 2020 (i9, 5700XT) which i own for about a week now.

From the startup sequence, i have noticed the line glitch right away, but shorty after i installed the update and no line glitch since.

The performance is just amazing. Everything just flies and productivity is higher right of the bat.

Fan noise in idle/light work is unnoticeable for me. I live in a small condo close to a busy street and therefore the noise from a little fan is the least of my worries. With CPU/GPU heavier tasks the fan ramps up, where it is louder, but not nearly enough to be called unbearable. Maybe i'm just not sensitive to noise as much, but that's my experience till now.

In bootcam, with the latest graphics drivers installed i tried some light/medium gaming, where i would get GPU temps in the high 90's (celsius), but after adjusting the fan curve with mac's fan control, i got that down to 75-80 degrees celsius.

The screen is really great for content creation and media consumption. Bezels are considered thick for 2020 but the bigger screen size manages to minimize the visual impact, so it is again not a noticable issue to me.

Overall the iMac is a big step up from my MBP 15 2015 and MSI GS63VR laptops and so far i am very pleased with the upgrade. Would recommend it :)

May it serve us well!

I actually appreciate the bezels as they increase the apparent contrast of the screen. Without them, that space would be replaced with whatever is behind the iMac. In most cases, that would be a white, grey, or colored wall that would offer less contrast. I prefer it against black.

Yeah, I don't get the big deal about "OMG Bezels!" in YouTube reviews, etc.
It's not as if you whip your iMac out of your pocket to show everybody what a cool new machine you have. They can't even see it on the Zoom meetings.
I think the industrial design and execution of the current iMac is a work of art.
So they will replace it with a functional flat slab - and that will be better?
Reminds of the replacement of Art Deco with the much more functional International Style. Not sure it was an improvement, and Art Deco is much more memorable and iconic now.

Good point. It certainly doesn't have any negative effect on productivity.

Youtubers are there to follow trends, but us average end "pro-consumers" know what matters to us. And it is certainly not bezel size.

I’ve seen that on and off for decades. An extension has loaded. Certain color profiles have done that in the past.

It’s easy to diagnose. Console.app will show you what’s loading when that happens. It might be a 3rd party .kext — won’t know till you see the console logs.

Also, to confirm: my machine with this issue came from Ireland. Apple seems to be assembling these machines in both China and Ireland. Luck of the Irish?

I live in Maryland, USA, and UPS tracking says the machine originated in Ireland and is now in Köln (Cologne), Germany. Seems like an odd diversion, but evidently Köln-Bonn airport is the European hub for UPS Air as well as FedEx Express. Meant to get to me on Friday.

Its where they add the official ”New Apple Computer Scent” to their machines.

Hi Guys, those of you who are using your 2020 27"iMac, I would be grateful if you could tell us how it's going and are you pleased with your purchase:)

We love ours. Not powerful enough for my work but does everything my wife needs. Couldn’t be happier.

The nano-glass display is fantastic—if/when I can get it for my 18 Core iMac Pro, I would.

I like it and would buy it again! But I still think, that the finish of the aluminium parts of my 2014 iMac looks a little bit better.

The thinks I find annoying are not specific for the 2020 model: USB Ports are hard to reach, no power led, height not adjustable...

I like mine a lot. It’s been very fast and stable in daily use and that display is hard to beat.

Things that keep me from loving it: one, fit and finish and build quality are below what I’m used to from Apple and that’s a bit of a bummer, and two, the fan sucks (rattles on start up and, while it’s quiet, the sound it makes is unpleasant).

But on balance, it’s still very good. I don't think there's anything like it at this price point.

Mine got stuck like this - maybe in the scenario it went to sleep in the day and then I woke it when it was dark

Interestingly the external Samsung monitor I have connected to my iMac now has a completely black screen. It is still powered on and the mouse disappears onto the external monitor but it just doesn't show anything, not even the menu. I have tried all the SMC resets etc. It's only a few months old. Anyone else had any issue like this? I don't have another device to test on but same thing happened with my Macbook Pro 13" which doesn't show on any monitor. I just don't have the ability to send these machines in as they disappear for weeks. Always an issue - over the past 3-4 years nothing but problems.

That’s a settings issue. Why aren’t you on the phone to Apple to get this resolved?

Somebody over at apple forums are still having issues with crashes

I must be among the lucky ones. I have only seen the white lines a handful of times and had no crashes. Updated to get the white line fix three days ago.

I don’t have the weird color change on login. Or the splitting of screens into true/not True Tone and so on.

The corner bug continues, but I can live with that.

They just run through a boilerplate set of steps which I've already done and have never fixed any issue I've had in the past and 99% won't fix it now. I can't afford to lose the machine for the time it takes to repair it either so I need to put up with it.

I'm still seeing the white line glitch on 10.15.7. I wanted to be imagining it but it was definitely there on the right hand side of Xcode. Anyone else?
