They would cannibalize imac pro if they introduced vega on regular imac, not happening in my opinion.

I think he's referring to this: https://www.macrumors.com/2018/01/29/trio-of-new-macs-with-custom-coprocessors/

It doesn't say at WWDC though. Hopefully it won't take too long.
Oh yeah, these rumors.

Not only did they not say WWDC, they say that it may not even be this year:
The report claims the new models could be released as early as this year, but it doesn't specify which ones they'll be.

This sticks with my thoughts about new iMac might not be here until 2019.

There was an article other than Mac rumors saying they were going to release 3 Macs. Two laptops and a desktop

It was not on MR it was called digital something. I just ordered a new imac. I'm not going to wait until October or next year.
That is probably the way to go, even if the get refreshed in October, it is not like your 2017 model will be obsolete. I'm sure it will be a decent machine for many years.

I have a maxed out Late 2012 model, besides the RAM is at 24GBs, but it still feels very fast to me on MacOS 10.11.

I will probably wait and see what the new Mac Pro will be like before I replace my current Late 2012.

What a hassle it was to order the imac. I hit submit to place the order and it didn't go through. So I hit submit again and thought I might have ordered twice. The I get an email from the bank fraud department and I called the number and automated message was saying please confirm you authorized these last 5 transactions and it had two amounts of $1924 each. I didn't know what button to push so I hung up and decided to call apple and they said we only have one order for you. So I called the bank and finally got through to a human and they said they had two transactions but first one was denied and the second one went through. Don't you just hate banks?

I would wait, lots of folk are complaining about overheating and noisy cooling fans in the 2017 range so I would imagine Apple will address this in the next revision; the new iMac Pro has a vastly redesigned interior with far improved cooling so no reason to suspect that this will not bubble down to the regular range of iMacs some time soon.
Bubbles go up, not down. There have been a ton of complaints regarding the iMac pros quality as well, will these also make it into the new revised standard iMac lines? Point is, Apple fixes nothing, you get what you get. If Apple got better with every revision, we'd all still be on 5-7 year old computers by now. Apple is getting nothing but less reliable, thanks to Tim Cook. Cookin' up some more expensive trash.

Hooray for the new social media garbage and color changes coming in the new macOS, though...cutting edge for sure. /s

I've been considering this debate, and had waited until WWDC to see if there would be an iMac refresh. I have a hard time dropping $2000 on a machine with year-old specs, even though I understand that's how it goes with Apple sometimes. To hijack the thread just a bit, the decision of what to buy here is further complicated knowing that a new Mac Pro is coming, and it will be modular, etc. My question to the group is, do you think the pricing of a Mac Pro would be in line with iMacs, in between iMac and iMac Pro, or somewhere else? I can't/won't spend the money on an iMac Pro, but am hopeful that a headless "pro" machine would not cost $2000-$3000?

No one knows but I'd say probably around $3k.

This is pretty much how Apple operates. Even at launch, many times Apple is using tech that has been around for a while.

There is always the Mac Mini if you are concerned about the price. Also, check out the Apple Refurbished page often for good deals, and there is always a Hackintosh option.

I have been using Macs a very long time, and I have never used Macs because of the price. I justify the price because of a few things, the main being the Mac OS. Another being that the HW is usually good quality and I can count of it last 5+ years. I guess you can add the looks of Macs, but this is more of a bonus, and not a main reason.

I think Apple has really lost their way when it comes to their quality control, especially on the software side of things.
If I could reliably use a Hackintosh that required little maintenance to run the Mac OS, I might start doing this.

I could be wrong, but I would be very surprised to see a new Mac Pro for under $3k. I wouldn't be surprised to see a new Mac Pro starting at the $3900 for the base model. Of course, these are purely just guesses with little data to back them up.

I'd say the entry-level MacPro is going to cost what the entry-level iMac Pro costs (or maybe a bit higher).
Of course, at that price, there's no display.

This refresh (which I expect for Christmas) might be a bit different because Apple will likely have to offer 6-core Core i9 CPUs at least for the highest-end iMac configuration. I'm not convinced there will be an 8-core configuration because it would come dangerously close to the iMac Pro in terms of performance.

The question is, just how will this be priced? The price-gap between the top-tier "normal" iMac and the lowest-tier iMac Pro isn't that wide to begin with - but with 32-core ThreadRipper2 CPUs available around Christmas, the QuadCore iMacs will look a bit dull compared to these beasts.
Edit: TDP of that 32-core beast is reportedly 250W. Given the size of the die, that's really frying-pan territory.

Though, admittedly, it's unlikely that the average 27" iMac user will need that much power - nor is it likely that such a thing will fit into any kind of All-In-One computer...

Thanks for the feedback all. It sounds like as far as pricing, it will only get worse. I've tried the Hackintosh route, and I suspect a Mac Mini is a long ways off. This all helps the decision-making process.

Another comment, from what I've seen on eBay, it appears that these machines hold their value a bit, so it's possible if I had buyer's remorse in six months I could get a decent amount back for a well-cared-for machine.

Q: Anyone have any good/bad experience with something like B&H video? In the States at least, one can definitely save some money on tax, but apparently at the risk of no returns. Not sure how common dead pixels and such are on these.

Congrats on your new Mac. You made a great choice. If you go to the apple online store you'll see the iMacs still have the "new" tag on them so a refresh might not come until 2019. Besides, in tech world I'd say that 6 months with the latest thing is already a good deal - in case they do refresh them later this year.

Whenever they do refresh the lineup, though, I suspect (out of thin air) that Apple might introduce an "anniversary iMac" due to its 20 years. Idk... maybe like they did with the iphone X: a different/more expensive version that gets introduced while the current ones just get a spec update.

1. They mentionned that the iPhone X was not an anniversary thing, just a coincidence.
2. They won’t make a 3rd edition of the iMac at the same time, there’s already the regular and the pro.
3. If they wanted to make an anniversary edition WWDC would have been a good timing. I think it’s too late.

Good points. Even better then - great time to buy an iMac. I am still between iMac and macbook, but buying now seems like a great option.
