NEW PRODUCT(s) ON THE WAY!! :D

If you go to http://store.apple.com NOW, it tells you "We are busy updating the store for you and will be back shortly." :D:D:D

title_backsoon1.gif

it always says that even if they don't update any products (ie, for maintenance)

Ive been dying for the imac update
But imagine the stores down were actually
"FINAL CUT SERVER! 2!"
lol

I just called the apple store and tried to order a new iMac and they confirmed that all the iMacs are being updated at the moment and I should call back when the store is online again. I was told it will happen today ;)
I can't wait to get my hands on a 24" iMac!

Why oh why are the graphics the same on the lower models...

They were already poor compared to the market.

Looks like Apple is gonna milk those who were delaying purchase for a good graphics card, and then do a second refresh in 2-3 months.

Sweet new spec on the top 24"!!!

Noticed though that on the Nvidia spec page for their cards the 8800 GT (the one above the 8800 GS) has 512Mb whilst the 8800 GS is supposed to have 384Mb. The iMac spec says that their 8800 GS has 512Mb so is this a case of a possible underclocked GPU as suspected with the 2600 pro?

1 - true
2 - false from a marketing standpoint - plus a cooler chip in a slim case is always a positive
3 - yes i think they are still working on the implementation of the chip into their imac design. There are alot of things that come into a product revision or development. Your not going to see a totally different CPU type all of a sudden. It is going to be rolled out with more substantial changes than what makes sense at this given timeframe for apple.

lol Common sense just seems to escape some speculators out there

well well well... my common sense seems to tell me a 1066MHz FSB and 3.06GHz is montevina....

*SNAP!*

your common sense is wrong. its not quite the full montevina chipset, as sped described before:

An even better question is how many of you think that Apple uses the Santa Rosa chipset? The answer is Apple does not. To be accurate, the computer needs to use several internal components to technically have a Santa Rosa chipset. Currently Apple does not use all of these products - most notably the wifi chip.

What I'm saying is, Apple will not really use Montevina because they don't really use Santa Rosa now. As a result, it is possible that Apple could release new Penryn processors with a 1066 bus.

According to wiki, these processors will be available in May."

If it's missing the Intel PRO/Wireless chip it's not a Centrino (2) computer but it still uses the same Intel north- and southbridge and processor.

Wait, weren't you the guy who was so sure the iMac release wasn't going to come until WWDC at the earliest?

I was sure that if apple was going to use the montevina chipset in the iMac that we wouldn't see a new one until WWDC. however, 3 days ago I changed my stance when SPED correctly predicted that apple could get its hands on a penryn chip with a 1066 fsb that differs from the montevina platform.

The common sense in this thread had been that apple would use currently available penryn chips (ala whats in the macbook and MBP right now) or wait for the montevina platform.

lmao what a weirdo.. many times you said there wouldnt be an upgrade and now you backpedal

lmao what a moron, read the frontpage https://www.macrumors.com/2008/04/28/intel-provides-early-montevina-like-technology-to-imac/

only one guy in this thread predicted 3 days before it happened. secondly, i never said that there wouldn't be an update. What I have been saying is that apple shouldn't update the iMac's unless they could get a processor with a 1066 mhz bus, since this technology represented a true performance bump compared to switching to penryn. that technology was suppose to come with montevina, when it launched a month ago. I speculated a few times that apple might get the chips early due to their relationship with intel, but I'm still rather shocked that apple got them a full month ahead of montevinas launch date and the WWDC.

now you can continue to be naive, newbie. btw, your screennames weird and a quick google search reveals it to be the singularly worst word in the history of written language.

Yay! I'm glad I was wrong…

Well, it happened as some predicted - I'm glad the updates were announced, but it does lead to some questions regarding the availability of the new Montevina chips later this year. Surely at this point we can't expect a Montevina iMac in '08. Or can we? :D

Better lucky than good in my case. I bought the top o' the line iMac today. Hope everyone got what they wanted with the new machines.

I am happy with the updates and am glad I waited for them.

BTW, my new IMAC is arriving Friday :D

Does anyone know if Apple stopped putting TN panels in the 20" iMacs and went back to IPS panels like they have in the 24" models?

And, is there any indicator (probably too soon to tell) whether problems causing the numerous screen problems of the previous aluminum iMacs have been eliminated?

Same screen in the 20" and it's too soon to tell.

Who really cares about Montevina in the real world? All I know is that a 3.06 GHz 24" iMac will breeze through my photo and video editing work like a knife through butter. And now it's got a half decent graphics card I can play games on it too. :)
