I planned to buy a M4 Mac Mini for my 20" iMac G4 mod. The only thing is that I don't keep the optical drive.

I've been thinking the same thing - if you took everything out of the inside of the G4, would the mini fit in without removing the case? But would that cause heating issues as there's then not enough air freely moving around the Mini?
Or, if you remove the case, would that then causing heating issues (as I presume it relies on air flow that is directed by the enclosure. Without the enclosure, is there a risk that not enough air is routed to where it is needed?

There is enough space to put the Mini inside the iMac with its case. I only plan to remove the bottom case to be able to change the antennas and to rewire the power button. On my mod I keep the fan of the iMac g4 so I think it will be enough to avoid overheating.
