Cinebench

i dunno yet - i am new to macs so will do a bit of searching! maybe not even benchmark but something like cpuz but for the mac - which woul djust give me the graphics card info such as mhz etc

Try running cinebench (www.cinebench.com) before and after the update. Cinebench exercises your graphics pretty well using the Cinema 4D product and at least gives you a number to compare. Hopefully, you won't see a major difference between the two or perhaps an increase after the update. ;)

Well it is

ROM Revision: 113-B2250F-219
EFI Driver Version: 01.00.219

Don't know what changed though.

Probably just something in it that caused some routines to crash, but likely this along with the system update might fix some of the issues/bugs that caused problems for people.

Interesting to note that there was a hack warning on the system upgrade. ;P

Wow, updates a plenty

I just bought my 20" 2.4 iMac today. Looks like lots of updates before I can get going with 10.5.1 out today too.

This is excellent news - now I feel a lot more confident in buying a new iMac! Perhaps I won't have to wait until 2008 to buy one now after alll! ;)

Same here.... as the update is for iMacs with the ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro, does that mean that the low end iMac (ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT) never had any freezing problems? Or that Apple still hasn't fixed all Aluminum iMacs?

My EFI Driver is 01.00.207 so it looks like this is going to update my system. Firmware isn't showing I guess I have to download iMac 1.2.1 before the Firmware will show up. At least thats how I read it.

Been holding off on the 1.2.1 download. Hopefully this will fix everyones problems.

I agree with you.
I even thought about a MacMini, scared by the freezing iMacs!

Now... I only have to chose the display size!

The 2400 cards never had an issue. This always seemed to be a 2600 pro issue.

I don't believe there were any ever problems experienced with the 2400 series of cards...

Benchmarks

What about the benchmarks?! Some one did it one? I'm really interested in that.

Thanks in advance!

Even though I didn't have the freezing problem I did the firmware update anyway. I was wondering if I was doing the right thing but everything seems fine.

I'm in the same situation as you are, and I want to see some benchmarks before and after applying the update to get a good sleep :)

My XBench graphics scores were close to identical before and after the update.

Quartz: 227.67 vs. 227.33
OpenGL: 203.95 vs. 202.08
User Interface: 353.87 vs. 352.87

Well... This time my external monitor froze and not my iMac display

Oh well.

One freeze

Bought my new iMac 20" iMac a week ago and I had my first freeze on Wednesday - just one.

The Firmware Update is now installed (it only installs on machines requiring it) and I wonder if anyone else has noticed but the general display seems to have improved also.

I had a fading effect from top to bottom of the display which has now disappeared. Mind you, it could have been the drink!

Anyway, the new iMac and Leopard are a superb combination.

Thanks! I recently "switched" my friend, his iMac should be coming soon, and I was worried his first Mac experience may be bad. Now I know he won't have graphics issues :)

Looking good so far. I had to disable the screensaver because it would lock, but now after the update running the screensaver for a couple hours and it's holding up well! :D

Works!

So far from Apple Discussions people have been having success.
Yay! :D

Works for me.

I have an alum iMac 20" using ATI Radeon HD 2600 on Tiger and I used to freeze on the Front Row app.

None of the other updates had an effect, but this one fixed it.

I installed the firmware update and 10.5.1, and the only thing I've noticed since then is that the overall clarity of the display seems improved.
This is extremely subtle though, and may simply be a product of looking for changes after the update.

One other thing is a list of SUID warnings in Disk Utility.
I'm guessing these are innocuous, since the system seems rock-solid.
Warnings like this existed prior to 10.5.1, and Apple has stated that they are accurate but totally benign.

BTW, this iMac has never frozen, displayed graphical artifacts or crashed in the two months I've owned it. Running 24/7
