My 24" 2.8 iMac didn't freeze until the leopard upgrade. Time machine was not usable, without causing freezes. I was getting a random freeze every other day, with Leopard(time machine off).

So far.... the update is working. I've been in/out of timemachine, with no freezes.

Thanks Apple.

Yesterday I spent about 2 and a half hours on the phone with apple care. I had tried 10.4 and 10.5 both clean install. Also tried apple memory and crucial memory in both options. Still my 24" imac 2.8 freezed at random and I could reproduce it at will by going to the screen savers. Today after work I called the local apple store per apple care to make an appointment to bring it in. I didn't want to be without it for a "few weeks" but I had exhausted all my options. They told me about the update and said try that and give it a day. So far so good. I can't make it freeze at all. I have been trying. Even installing divx codec which was making it freeze sometimes before I cleaned installed. Thus for NO FREEZE. Very happy apple camper here :):D

I applied the Leopard 10.5.1 update and then ran the 2600 HD 1.0 Firmware update this morning. My machine was not a freezer at all but for others with non-freezers who may be nervous about running this update I had no issues with it at all. Everything's running just as smoothly and no graphics issues.

My machine is MemVendorID 600 and MemRevisionID 100.

I'm actually more concerned with the hope that the Leopard 10.5.1 update addressed some of the wacky Firewire issues I've been having since moving to Leopard but that's for another thread.

What do you mean? This freeze fix is for vendor of 100.

It updated a 600 on mine...

iMac Graphics Firmware Update version 1.0
Found a 'display'
has correct mem vendor
has correct mem revision
Found Matching dsiaplay returning 1
InitialRequirementsAreMet
OS version is 10.5.1 build 9B18.
in Updater IsCorrectMachine
in UpdaterUtilites GetPropertyFromPathNode
GetRootAccess success

Though it found a problem later with the ATIROMFlasher.kext version.

Kext has a kernel dependency prior to version 6.0 and CFBundleVersion does not match executable's MODULE_VERSION" = true

My XBench graphics scores were close to identical before and after the update.

Quartz: 227.67 vs. 227.33
OpenGL: 203.95 vs. 202.08
User Interface: 353.87 vs. 352.87

I must say, I'm surprised at the lack of difference between your OpenGL scores and mine on my C2D 1.8 Mini.

Quartz Graphics Test 165.28
OpenGL Graphics Test 278.60
User Interface Test 224.01

Is XBench a reliable test? It seems to vary a great deal looking at the website results database....

just installed 10.5.1 and the firmware update. everything is running smooth. the update made my screen super bright though. but it may have just reset it back to default (full brightness). at any rate, apple sure has been busy with the updates lately!

but my system didn't exhibit freezing before.

I was going to say my screen seems brighter since the update too but I thought it might just have been my imagination. My own color calibration is still in use and I always run at max brightness.

yeah, def brighter. i checked and i was still two clicks down on the brightness control. but not a problem for me :)

Well, funny thing is, I froze up during the 1.3 update, also froze up during the firmware update.

Had to download manually, but praise the Jobs, it's finally so far freeze free (knock on wood).

Tried all the usuals, rebooted, tried them again, ran ab screensaver for about 30mins, left photo booth running for a bit until my screen went to sleep, twirled the dock mag, and so far nothing.

Usually first time round I don't get a freeze, after random reboots I get artifacts but this time, done 5 reboots and nothing so far.

Maybe we really do have a winner. I really don't care WHAT caused it, I'm just glad it's fixed.

Now if we can get the Macbooks fixed (keyboard and bluetooth) my house is set to look forward to it's next Mac edition.

Good run of updates by Apple. Might even start dreaming about plunking down some hard earned mulah on that 20"...

This excited over a Firmware Update? jeezz ;)

Well, it is a big deal to many iMac owners who's machines aren't working properly and also many potential iMac buyers (e.g. me!) who have been holding off for such a fix. :p

But yes, I know you're just joking around... ;)

My 24" 2.4 iMac is not a freezer, but the 10.5.1 update and the firmware were both available today. Got the 10.5.1 earlier this morning, then this afternoon the firmware update was available. They were not available at the same time.

Great day today. HTTPmail was released, so I can now send out of Mail using Hotmail.

Well, so far I am a happy camper. I can't get my iMac to freeze anymore. It was a bad freezer. No more artifacts as well. Maybe I am ready for Leopard now.

The Real Deal

Guys, this update is the real deal. I have a bad freezer that is actually scheduled to be shipped back to Apple for a replacement tomorrow. I applied the firmware update (and 10.5.1) and have been working it hard for the past two hours, doing all the stuff that used to make it freeze in minutes. iTunes visualizer, CoverFlow, screen savers, Photo Booth, Front Row, the whole nine yards. Not a single freeze. I had this thing freezing on command before.

I'm so glad this update has been released... My imac was also a very bad freezer, especially in Front Row. So far no freezes :-D

And you should make the move to leopard, my system feels so solid and stable with 10.5.1

Looking good!

I was just wondering if there would be any refrigerators (freezers that don't have the problem quite as badly but are still affected) but so far so good!

Windows??

Is there any chance I can install the update on my PC so it'll stop freezing!!!!
LOL

Repair Permissions in disk utility now reports "Estimated Time: Less than 1 minute" and yet it's been going for more than a minute without the progress bar moving. That's kinda weird.

Anybody else tried Disk Utility yet?

Also it seems to have fixed the funky problem with the finder cursor getting stuck as the dock resize cursor if you move the mouse away from the dock fast enough.
