Bring it to repair, this update fixed the problem, so if you still expericne problems it is a hardware issue probably. Bring back to tech support and make it repaired.

Yes that's right. We had a 20" 2.0ghz with 2400 graphics that would freeze 2 or 3 times a day. Same symptoms as the 2600's, (screen would freeze but mouse cursor would still move). I took it back to the Apple store at MeadowHall, UK and they gave me a new one as I was just within the 14 days. That was 2 weeks ago and the new one has been fine. Maybe I was just unlucky to get the only 2400 with a problem? I assume it had the correct graphics internally as it wouldn't play Sims 2, which is a known bug with the 2400's but not 2600's. (We also have a 24" 2.4ghz 2600 iMac that has never had freezing problems).
Is there anyone else out there that's had a freezing 20" 2400?

Mine froze once early on, but has been fine since...

(I'm wondering if anyone else on here actually has the 'cheapskate' iMac. Most MacRumors members seem to go for the sexier models...:))

This update fixed everything for me. Real pain that it took two months to get here, but it's forgiven now that I don't have to deal with customer service and wait times.

Bought my new iMac 20" iMac a week ago and I had my first freeze on Wednesday - just one.

The Firmware Update is now installed (it only installs on machines requiring it) and I wonder if anyone else has noticed but the general display seems to have improved also.

I had a fading effect from top to bottom of the display which has now disappeared. Mind you, it could have been the drink!

Anyway, the new iMac and Leopard are a superb combination.

Could be but don't you just love technology. Any way who are you going to trust.

I was going to say my screen seems brighter since the update too but I thought it might just have been my imagination. My own color calibration is still in use and I always run at max brightness.

Thanks for the heads up on this I wouldn't have though to look but did now after the update and lo and behold the setting was near the top. It's so nice not to have to squint. :D

Mine doesn't freeze anymore, no matter what I try, no matter how many times I boot or come out of sleep, no matter how many times I switch between Windows and OS X, it doesn't freeze.

On top of that, I notice a performance increase when playing games (FPS boost)..

I'm a happy bunny, but will be even more happy if it still doesn't freeze afer a week of stressing it every day.

Yesterday I spent about 2 and a half hours on the phone with apple care. I had tried 10.4 and 10.5 both clean install. Also tried apple memory and crucial memory in both options. Still my 24" imac 2.8 freezed at random and I could reproduce it at will by going to the screen savers. Today after work I called the local apple store per apple care to make an appointment to bring it in. I didn't want to be without it for a "few weeks" but I had exhausted all my options. They told me about the update and said try that and give it a day. So far so good. I can't make it freeze at all. I have been trying. Even installing divx codec which was making it freeze sometimes before I cleaned installed. Thus for NO FREEZE. Very happy apple camper here :):D
 This is why we buy Apple. Apple got to work fixing the problem, at the same time MS and Dell would be denying there IS a problem, I'm Impressed!:apple:

I guess it is time to buy a new iMac...:)

Any idea when :apple: will ship the iMac with Leopard already installed?

Absolutely! I did NOT have a freezing issue, but after the new Leopard update, a number of other issues I had were resolved. I have also noticed a performance increase in my primary app, Aperture.

I now have EXACTLY what I was looking for in my 2.8Ghz iMac. A very reasonably priced machine, with a TON of power, that is performing FLAWLESSLY.

This makes me remember why I "switched" 5+ years ago

My 20" is arriving any day now so this is brilliant news.

Very well done, Apple - my faith is restored!

I do have a question though (but it's probably been answered already).

If I would format later this month, would I have to install the firmware update again (thus, risking freezing on first boot after installation)? Or is this update set now for the rest of the hardware's life? (some sort of BIOS thing)

surely they are already doing so?
i ordered a 24" yesterday and on the documentation it seemed to indicate that (at least on an accompanying jpeg of an iMac with a Leopard desktop) it would come all Leoparded up. Could this not be the case?

Mine, purchased right after Leopard release, said the same thing. Looked like it would already be installed. It wasn't Not really any biggie though, I mean, the install took maybe 30 minutes, and in some ways was nice, as it didn't have all the trial junk you would normally get, office, iwork etc., installed if the machine came "imaged".

My 24" 2.4GHz has been at the Apple store for a week waiting for a new graphics card to come in. I got a call last night from a genius that told me the new firmware was out and he was going to try that to see if it fixed it. Apparently after install he was going to do graphics intensive tests overnight to see if there are any problems.
Last time he tested the graphics he said it failed before he left the room. Before this I was getting 5-10 freezes per day.
This will be the ultimate test.

i ordered mine on Oct 30th and it came Nove 4th, no leopard pre-insatlled, had to format and install myself

You're set. Firmware updates stick.

Are you high?

Do you realize how long it took for Apple to admit this problem was systematic?

What's life like in your world?

God, if I wasn't so sick, I'd dance around, knowing that my €2000 computer finally works :)

24" 2.4, vendor 600. Have had the computer a week with no freezes. When I ran software update earlier in the week it listed the iMac Software update 1.3 (leopard) but I held off since I haven't been having any problems. Ran software update this morning and 1.3 was no longer available, but I installed the leopard update 10.5.1. This installed successfully (39 MB. only 1 reboot), and when I ran software update again the Graphics firmware update was now available.

I installed the firmware update (apparently successfully) but when I finished, software update still showed the the firmware update as being available. I tried installing it again, same results. According to the list of installed updates, it's on there twice. Anyone else experiencing this?

Download the 1.3 and the 1.0 firmware update manually. Install them manually. That's what I had to do. All is well on my iMac.

Goto support for Intel iMacs (mid 2007) and nab both dmg files.
