When I picked it up yesterday, the outer cardboard box for my iMac also was slightly damaged. Nothing major, it looked like the bottom of the box got a rip along the seam where it meets the outer flap, so the side would flop around. They taped it but it doesn't look like they opened it at all, as the tape along the top of the box was unbroken. No damage at all to the iMac box itself.

They use X-rays machines, just like going thru security at an airport.
Duh. I can't believe I didn't think about that. Then why was my computer's box opened?!? I'm not going to think too much about it. The computer is fine so how the outer box was is not relevant...

Update:

Ordered August 14. Original due date September 10-17. Apple website now says delivery August 28, UPS tracking says August 26.

Zipping right along...
Order in the same date (to be precise on the 5th, but the loan was accepted on the 14th) but is still in progress......

I imagine they had to. How else would they inspect it?

I’d be seriously unimpressed by that. Over here, if customs open a package for inspection it’s resealed with special HM Customs tape, not just bodged with clear tape like that. Is that normal for customs in the US?

Placed my order today. i9 10 core, 8GB of RAM, 4TB SSD, 5700XT video, 10gig ethernet. I scored 128GB of RAM for $400 from HyperX (Kingston). Estimated ship September 14-21. View attachment 946021

silly question, but wouldn’t the system be faster with 4 x 32Gb ram than with 2 x 64Gb?

My iMac landed in Louisville at 1:19am this morning. Had a delivery date of 8/24. Now being held and is in “clearance in progress” state with no delivery date now. I’ll be lucky probably to get it Monday, but I’m still ahead of the original estimated delivery date of 9/1-9/9.

I ordered 8/17, original estimate was Sept 9+. It shipped this morning with expected delivery of August 28th. It has to get out of China though so we'll see...

No way, that’s awesome! I ordered on the 15th, and was estimated 9/9-16. Guess I’ll be refreshing the order page today LOL.

My 8/6 order just changed to preparing to ship, in the last hour.

10 core i9, 5700xt, 4TB, 8gb ram, 10gb, keyboard w/ num

Update, my order shipped overnight. New delivery date of 8/31, was hoping by Friday (8/28). Original delivery window was 8/21-28.

I find it interesting how Apple prioritize orders/supplies. It’s interesting to see how I had a one week turnaround from order to delivery while others who ordered a lot earlier are still waiting to even get past processing. It seems the config that causes it is the 10 GBit Ethernet. But now we are seeing slips of who people who didn’t have that option selected had their orders slip who had windows earlier than I originally had( mine was September 4th to 14th).

I wonder if location matters. Seems like the issues are with the members who live in Europe.

It's about time Apple started offering a 'stock top end' iMac like they do MacBook Pro.

I think a lot of people would even pay the Apple RAM tax if they could get next day shipping.

If anyone doesn't know what I'm talking about - you can get a nearly-maxed out MacBook Pro within 24 hours even though these are not shown as standard models on the buy page.

An i9/32GB/2TB/5700 XT model would be sensible.

That's rough, sorry to hear. It seems like > 1TB orders are getting pushed more often and are definitely slower.

I'm assuming you finally received it!??!

Yes, it finally arrived! ?

Funny story... I was listening for the UPS truck all day. I finally heard it drive up in front of my house. I see the driver grab a small package and take it to my neighbor. Then I watch him get back in the truck and start to drive away. I ran out the door (without shoes on the hot AZ concrete) and I'm waving and hollering. He stops and I say, "I think you have a package for me!" He's like "yep." ??? I now realize that he didn't see me at all and he was just moving the truck forward maybe 20 feet for my delivery. ??? (He wasn't my usual driver.) And because the universe likes to have fun at my expense - I didn't notice, but at the same time I was running after the UPS truck, a car with four of my friends drives up to my house. They hop out and are saying, "What is going on? What are you doing???" Oh, just running after a big brown truck! ?

I haven't had too much time to set it all up. We've been doing a computer switch around at my house. My kids are home for distance learning and so my teen got the old iMac and my 10 year old got the MacBook. I just couldn't watch them work on the tiny chrome books the school provided. Anyway, I made sure it booted up fine and then switched out the RAM for 64 GB from Samsung and it is zipping right along. I should be able to get it all setup the way I want today!

Mine was also ordered on 6th, apparently shipped on 13th, but UPS tell me they can't find it and to start a claim, which is a 10 to 30 day process to investigate. I don't know which is worse, especially as Apple already charged my CC.
Grrr.
